  1. Do I replace with a "NEW" substrat or do the boiling thing with the existing and then put back??
  2. So are you saying that when everything is all said and done, the best would be to completely remove this substrat ???? If so, what kind would be the best, or am I going to have this problem with other substrats? Boy-o-boy this whole planted thing is not as easy as it looks :boom: I want to do whats going to be THE BEST solution!!! not the most affordable or easiest, but the most effective, bottom line is ...........................?
  3. Tested for Amonia in my newly planted co2 55 gal tank and the levels are through the roof???!!!! SUGGESTIONS................? I heard it may be caused from the SHULTZ substrat that is in the tank, not sure if that ia why or not, but bteween the dead fish, high amonia, and lower acidic pH, does anyone have helpful hints to rectify this problem. I did buy a Amonia reducer chemical from Big Als, but are there any other things I should do? Thanks :well:
  4. No I do not, but I will go out this evening and get one. This is the kinda info I need, thanks
  5. I copped out for cost reasons and added a bag of SHULTZ AQUATIC SUBSTRAT to my gravel, it added about 2 inches in total to the bottom of my tank to the existin 1.5-2 inches 0f gravel that was already there.
  6. The Fluval 305 filter has been cleaned regularly, but it has been a while for the sponge filters. I will give them a squeeze or two in a separate pail of water and place them back in. I know it is not as simple as adding Co2 and plants to a tank to get a good planted tank enviroment, but is there any daily or weekly things one should do to keep up with the attempt of keeping a planted tank like what I am trying to have? Should the Co2 rn consistantly or turn off when the lights re off? or does that really matter at all? Thanks for your advice and help, I really appreciated it as I really want to get this planted tank figured out!!!
  7. Sorry, yes a 55 Gal. I am using the NUTRIFIN TEST for pH, I have had the tank set up for quite some time now, but have just recently switched it over to a planted tank, going on 4 weeks now, I have done water changes,30-40%, yes with tap water and do use water conditioner as well. The Co2 fluval system that I bought from Pj's probally is not the best Co2 set up, but it is simple and I thought it would be a good way to start and try with plants. I am running about 1 bubble per 5 seconds. As far as air in the tank I have 2 sponge filters in it as well, I have never had fish die on me like this and it has all started ever since I added the Co2 ?????? I have kept fish for years and have never had casualties like this, I have never really been one to buy test kits either, but may need to now. any suggestions as to what I should maybe test for? or any helpfull suggestions I should try?
  8. Can anyone give me some pointers. %% Gal planted aquarium w/ fluval Co2 set up, My PH has been a bit low (5) and have added some Ph boost to the aquarium, but my community fish are still dieing!??! Is there a test kit for planted Co2 tanks I can get or what am I missing here??? Is there something I should be doing that I am missing? Thanks :well:
  9. Well I am now on a mission to find some of these plants, I am sure they will look great and can't wait to find them and get them in my 55 Gal. Thank you again for all the suggestions!! CHEERS!
  10. Thanks, thats awesome info, I will keep my eye open for that!! :-) Do you have a recomended substrat that is best to use, or are they all the same??
  11. What are the "Marima Balls" for, where do they go, where does one get them from??
  12. Yup, am patiently waiting for the auction, what are some easy growing, low maintenance plants to buy??
