possibly. the rest of the 'midas' in the tank looked normal. the body is not like a parrot fish that look more round...this one is laterally compressed but short body like parrot. whatever it is ...I like it. the colour has not changed where the top half is grey with barring. more so during feeding time.

I bought this from a petland red deer. It was in a tank marked "barred midas". They were all grey and barred but one stood out and bought it. It appeared to be short bodied.

I bred them here in Red Deer. I think the post are still around the forum. Just do a search.

I'm not good at sexing them. Just wait and let them pair up naturally. I am not familiar w Africans but don't usually like mixing African and American cichlid. Not much help here.

They are expensive because it takes time to get blue gene jds. It took me 2 years to get fry.

I bred these guys years ago. Do you hav specific questions? I think the post are still up.

I agree...nothing wrong with hybrids if you enjoy them. Just make sure you don't breed them and pass them on as something else. If you cannot 100% identify...not a good idea to breed it in the first place. But if you already have hybrids and you like them...keep them. Don't have to destroy a fish because its hybrid. But just my opinion.

Thanks. I really am not breeding for anything. These are just culls that I obtained. Some of the babies are very blue though...looks really nice. I might have to get rid of them and pass them on to someone that can appreciate them.

how many shrimps can a 2.5 gallon hold? I started with 20 and now I have over 25 babies on top of that. All seems well with the shrimps. all getting along.

Only from Feb1-14. I saw this in Red Deer. Assume they are doing it in all PL.

Still going strong; found another new berried female. I did give in and bought a mini magfloat as the front was getting caked in green algae. I left the sides and the back for the shrimps to graze on. interesting little critters.

2 month update: No casualties. 3 berried females. These shrimps are hardy. I take a big yogourt container full of water out of the tank...replace it with a bit warmer treated water from the tap. No tech still except for desk light.
