I like electric blue JDs

I believe they r man made and do not exist in the wild. They would be new world cichlid.dyed ones r usually odd color such as blue or purple. I had success keeping them w south American cichlids. I had smaller fish live w them w no issues.

if it has tankmates...sometimes they can be very skittish around tankmates when first introduce. If so, try target feeding with turkey baster. Blood worms works well

Grow her on her own to reduce stress...ebjd are more passive than regular jacks. We sometimes think that fish are lonely when they are okay. Put some easy community that are passive if you really need to put something in there. Platies, guppies, etc. at least the babies can be hunted for food.

I would wait until it is bigger and more robust. Also, you are still unsure of the sex as well. Wait until later. You can grow out a blue gene in another tank. I know Bandi and riverfront sells them.

weekly water change, good quality food ( I used NLS with my ol' breeding pair and ebjd fry) and reduce stress with proper stocking worked well for me.

I will see what I get from AA. Like I said...I can also buy and donate to the school. Only problem is when we switch biotope later...not sure how I can get rid of the fish. I guess I can always try to sell it back for what I paid for them and use the money to get the new fish for the next biotope. I am thinking keeping it simple...SA community type and followed by african. We will see.

Hi folks,

My wife school decided to set up a tank in the library for the children. The plan is to have different biotope every 3-4 times per year. I thought instead of buying fish...I may be able to talk to some AA members growing out fish or have "extra" fish they dont mind lending. I will be volunteering to keep the tank maintained properly. I will know more about the size and filtration in the next few days.

I am thinking of starting easy and go with South American biotope. If you are interested in volunteering for tank maintenance or provide or lend fish...pm me.

The tank will be in an elementary/middle school in red deer.

i recommend figure 8 puffers as they are lower brack 1.005 salinity and can tolerate a more hardy plants mentioned.

hhmmm. Was the puff still alive when the hermit picked on it? Was the puff sick? Sorry for the loss.

You never know. They may just quit selling fish all together after your discussion with them. It is not easy to maintain tank(s) full of fish and maintain gas station.

unfortunately, if we buy them, they will restock them however they wish. Supply and demand. If the demand is there, they can supply it. Hopefully, they are the few that actually cares for the welfare of the fish as well. I always wanted to rescue a few fish from terrible condition but I know that if I "rescue" the fish, they will just get more to sell to misinformed buyers.

found a quarter inch "shoot" ...looks like leaves are going to be sprouting. FINALLY.

no leaves...just 3 inch roots. the roots are growing nice and thick and long! In full fresh water.

I got lucky with my first setup. It was low maintenance...no skimmer. It was a 40 gallon tank with mushrooms, leathers, zoanthids, even some of stony corals where growing. I had gsp puffer, damsels, and some inverts that got away from the puffers, full of mini stars. I used tap water and the biggest thing was I did not do waterchange for a long time (over a year...just topping off....NOT A GOOD PRACTICE!) I thought if everything is thriving why mess it up right?! My guilt got the best of me and I did a 25 percent change and CRASH! Should've just continued what I was doing...it WAS working.

Again not a practice that I would encourage people to follow. There was a balance within that tank the worked well I think the 60 Lbs of liverock helped a lot. Next time...if it aint broken, dont try to fix it...LOL

lots of hiding place. used something similar to spawning mops for hiding places as they like to cannabalize on each other.

its not an anemone. I think its leather coral with extended polyps.

EDIT: I clicked on the pic. I think it is an anemone afterall. the type i am unsure.
