  1. no nitrATEs or nitrItes are both normal, i apoligize for not reading it right the first time... but no they are both 0/1 ppm... this setup has been up and running for about 6 months, and it cycled empty for 3 weeks, if everything is normal, then thanks for the ideas, evrything is going well, it seems its only a once in a while thing...
  2. as you can see at the post above yours, the nitrates are testing perfect.... if thats all it could be then thanks for your time, it must just be some kind of strange behavior only shown once in a while i have no dead fish the head count is right, nitrates are tested every 3 days and come out normal LOTS of water movement from 2 filters and an aerator thanks for the help and advice, degrassi, we must have fish that think alike... they need glasses cause theyres no food, but some of the seem to think so lol
  3. there are 2 aquaclear filters pushing the water, as well as a bubble wall... nitrates are perfect :boxer:
  4. Hi, my cichlid tank has observed behavior i have never seen before... some of my fish have begun making smacking noises at the surface of the water... one of the big red zebras, and one of the little labs... whats going on is it something i need to be worried about?
  5. Hey everyone, i am considering a new set up for my big tank, wanting to replace the mis-matched rocks i have currently occpying space, with something a little more sophisticated. Ive heard of people making their own rocks out of portland cement. Has anyone here done this and if so do you have any tips or tricks about doing it?
  6. no no no... i moved up FROM Innisfail, TO edmonton, so my location saying edmonton is right! :shifty: as for the scratches, they are not incredibly deep, only noticable when standing within 2-3 feet or so of the tank, and have to be at the right angle... ive heard putting car wax on it might help... any thoughts?
  7. Hows it goin? Im trevor, recently moved up To edmonton from Innisfail, and decided to get back into the obsession, and it has quickly turned into a multi tank syndrome. Although I have little space for tank, and will be considered fairly new in the hobby by size standards, i currently have a 40 gallon african tank, one 20 gallon community tank, and am hopefully setting up my old 30 gallon for a salt water tank here in the next few months. at the moment i have approximatly 40 fish, with 2 of my females holding, which is cool, ive never seen it before! Im 19, so i have a long time to enjoy the hobby, as well as aqumulate more and exciting fish. I have a quick question right out of the gate, i recieved a new tank from a friend, who owned a cat, and unfortunatly she didnt kep the tank clean very well. and allowed the cat to climb all over it (gasp right?!?!) so unfortunatly the tanks exterior glass is alll scratched up...nothing deep, but it is noticable. Is there any home remedy to solve this, al i do not wish to spend alot of money, none if i can... or if nyone has any left over supplies from a similar project, and would be willing to let me have/borrow... glad to be here and hope to have fun!
