  1. Hi, I just picked up a coralife moonlight and I find it isn't quite stong enough for my taste. I got the 1w led and it's installe don a 20G tank. I find it dim, and very directional (spotlight). Anyone have luck with other brands, setups etc? Theres a ton listed on ebay, I'm just never confident about what I will get ! Cheers, Dave
  2. Thanks! I've had this bad luck with Cardinals in this tank, this is the soel survivor of a school! I'm waiting a few weeks, then I'm goign to pop in 5 more for "protection" I should have mentioned my 4 yr old sones tank as my first, 3G - 2gold fish, and about 4 deaths before I put a stop to it and started reading about what I really should and shoudln't be doing.... I started that goldfish drama back in Feb, and now I have a few Danios in the 3G until I figure out what I want to do with it.
  3. Hi Stacey, Go figure, thats where I got mine! Perhaps the bacth? Or Me? I did notice that there we a few sickly ones there, I shoudl have walked away. Dave
  4. Heres my two cents My newly set up 20G tank, (also my first planted tank, or any tank for that matter) Fish 6 Various Platies (1 pregnant) 1 Cardinal Tetra 1 farlowella acus (Stick Cat) Plants Java Fern Java Moss Amazon Sword Echinodorus Tenellus
  5. Wow, lots of responses, I've been caught up in setting my tanks up so I neglected my posts... I'm keeping 4 little Danios in the tank for now with the intent of moving them into there permanent home soon. At that time I think I'll go with the Endlers, I love those guys! Anyone ever kept pea puffers? I believe they require more room then the 3G even though they are tiny.. Cheers!
  6. Thanks everyone for your input, I'm doing much better now... Unfortunatly the cardinals are not... I have one surviving Cardinal, oddly enough if was the first one I expected to die once I spotted problems, very little. I've added more plants, and the tank is more then cycled. I also have a few platies, 2 snails, and a farlowella acus (stick catfish). My tank is really coming along now! Cheers,
  7. Help! The last month I've been cycling a 20G tank with a few danios, the cycle appears to be complete as my ammonia and nitrite are both at 0. On Sat I purchased 14 small cardinals. Two died almost right away. the others have been losing their colour and dying off one or two at a time. I'm now left with six. All of the cardinals have white bellies now, and do not appear to be eating. I went with the LFS suggested 80 deg water, Acclimatized them over a period of an hour by adding a little bit of tank water to the bag every 15 mins, while floating the bag in the tank. I took this time to plant a few amazons, a java fern, and some ground cover. I tested again this morning and it's showing a tiny bit of nitrite, 0 ammonia. Is this a write off? I can understand one or two, but 8 or 14? with the rest dying as we speak?
  8. I think I like the endlers, It woudl be really neet to breed them but then I would have to do somethign with the fry. Will the fish naturally not breed if the habitat is not large enough? Would I be stretching it to populate with 3-4 males? (I read they measure 3/4") Thanks!
  9. Wow is right, nice job Werner! I like the thick folliage at the bottom of the tank "A] Hemianthus micranthemoides"
  10. Humm, endlers and killies, both are small but attractive.. I believe endlers are the smaller of the two, but hard to find. Is this true? I also think the endlers are schooling fish, so I might make them uncomfortable with less then 6, but I'm not sure my little 3g will hold those up. (I"m almost certain not) any ideas on what the smallest is?
  11. HI all, besides a betta, any thoughts on what I can stock a 3 G tank with? I'm thinking a few neon tetras, but not sure how many it will hold. I know of the 1 G per 1" fish, but I don't think that always holds true.... Thanks! Dave
  12. Hi everyone, I found a picture of a tank online I would like to recreate portions of it. Anyone want to take a stab at naming the plants? (I'm new to this) Thanks! Dave
  13. Hi all, as I am very new to this, I still dont' know where to get resonably priced plants... I'm looking for hardy lush plants to fill a 20g tank. Is 12$ plant a nromal price (petland) Thanks! Dave
  14. Hi All, anyone know where I can pick up replacement filter cartridges for a Waterhome 3 top filter? I think they use the same size as the 2G and 5G. I bought some generic ones, but the profile of the cartridge is just not right so the water isn't making proper contact... Thanks
