  1. It really depends on what type of Crypt they are on how much they're going to grow. If they're Crypt. wendtii, then you're likely maxed out; however, if it's Crypt balansae, then they're just getting going - they grow 18"+. To keep them trimmed, I usually just remove the outer leaves. Keep moving toward the middle 'til you've removed all the leaves that you don't want.

  2. This advice is if the food in the net is not working.

My wife had one net and I had the other. One was the coraller and the other was the catcher. Work the corners and make them go high. They will try to deke you out. Make them, not you, do the reacting.

    This sounds like coaching...

    Good luck.

  3. Henry also let me know about this site. He was right, "AA--you can't forget that name!"

This is a really cool website. Lots of helpful people.

    Cheers,

  4. Bala Sharks are nice and get big!

Have you had experience with full grown balas? They definately look cool and seem to be quite active. My only real question is if I have enough room for them when they get full grown. I've heard they can get to be a foot long. My wife barely let me pick up the second tank...one more and I would be "sleeping with the fishies" (on the coach beside them, not in the mafia way).

    Thanks for the input.

  5. I picked up an 80 gallon tank today. I am just in the process of setting it up but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for fish that could be placed in it. I am looking for something larger, not outrageously expensive and not a live-bearer or cichlid. The tank will eventually house my 3 plecos and 4 yoyo loaches. It will have a sand substrate, driftwood, rocks, caves and some annubius, java fern & java moss. Filtration will not be an issue.

    Thanks for the help.

  6. I have yoyo loaches, plecos, australian rainbows and a small group of zebra danios. I have a fair amount of plants, including green cabomba so I decided to buy some ghost/glass shrimp to clean up the plants. I know that these shrimp are hard to see but I am thinking they are either dead and gone or have somehow made a Bond-esque escape and are rampaging in the free world. Are any of these fish known to eat ghost shrimp? If so, are there any shrimp that would do the same job that would less likely be eaten? Thanks for the input.

P.S. If you have seen rampaging shrimp in the streets, please call the authorities and hide.

  7. I am planning on doing a DIY pop bottle CO2 system but I am unsure how many 2 litre bottles I need for a 90 gallon tank. I have approximately 1.5 W/G and it is well planted. Any suggestions, recommendations or just a point in a good direction? Thanks for the help!

  8. :welcome: to AA. Check out one of our sponsors, DeeMark Bettas. She can bring in some very nice females from Thailand, with exactly the traits you want. Just PM or email her to ask for what you want, I'm sure she'll do everything she can for you.

BTW it's worthwhile as the fish she'll be able to request for you will be young and in breeding condition. :D Sue

Thanks Sue, and everyone wow thanks for the wonderful welcome. I am from Millet a little wee town outside of Leduc 45 mins south of Edmonton.

    :D

Small town south of Edmonton pride! Your neighbours in Leduc (mainly myself) welcome you! Good luck with the Betta breeding.

  9. Sorry, should have mentioned that I was from Leduc. I am also working on a picture of the tank, but I want to add a little more before I get to that point. Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

  10. Hi, my name is Greg and I have been keeping fish for about a year and a half. I recently purchased a 90 gallon tank which contains australian rainbows and some yoyo loaches. I am learning lots about this hobby thanks to this site and a couple of books from the local library. The limits of my aquarium appear to be my property taxes and my mortgage payments. Strangely enough, my wife believes in paying them both consistently. I am also into Wii and DS, as well reading historical and political books. I've never joined one of these groups before but am excited because it seems to contain many enthusiastic individuals.

Because of the newness of this, some of the vocab is beyond me. I have no idea what the term "PM" means, as in "PM me". Every time I search it on the net I find that it means Prime Minister. I doubt that is the meaning in this context. If someone could help me, that would be greatly appreciated. I also have little experience with internet etiquette, so I will apologize in advance if I do anything uncouth.

    Cheers,

    Greg
