  1. I am a bit confused, do you have platys with your shrimp and a Betta?

Copper is not good for any invert, this also could be a problem there are test kits out there to see if your water holds any traces of copper.

Platy's could be eating your shrimp, betta's might as well... I have seen my betta girls swallow a baby pleco fry whole and the pleco fry was the size of a shrimp...

I was surprised to say the least !!

I doubt its stress but one of the two above factors I would suspect, also shrimp if they feel threatened are fanastic hiders. You seem to have a well planted tank so they might be hiding.

i purchased 6 new cherry shrimp last week to equal 8.

this week i have only seen two, and no carcasses or molts.

    but no shrimp either.

also, my platy who just gave birth is under a lot of stress by any movement around the tank.

the fry are still in the mesh box inside the tank, about 3 weeks now,

however, i'm not sure if my betta is attacking my shrimp, or if copper in my pipes did it? (although, i only see a bit of copper under my sink, not a whole lot more.)

i also put in one flourescent last week and havent replaced the remaining incandescent out.

plants seem to be doing healthy, i just did a small water change.

What could be causing the stress?

this is a planted tank, various crypts, vals, cambomba, banana plant, java fern ..

  2. Okay, so the other day I got a glimse of my other male LongFin Pleco... he had fur growing on his two front fins. I at a glance thought it was fungal.

So, I started treatment!! Well today I had to dig around the tank to find him, he is a fantastic hider !! :boxed: I wanted to make sure the meds were working.

I pulled the stump out where he was hiding to take a closer look, the fungus wasn't gone oh no  I pulled him closer for a better look, its not Fungal!! OH what the heck is it... it looks like its part of him...

Looks like tenticles orange? This does not appear on my other male, its at the elbows of the front ventril fins... I hope I explained it right

Is this normal growth or something of a genetic flaw? Or am I going to do the toilet bowl funeral soon? Any idea's would be appreciated... I tried looking up images of other males I haven't seen anything like it..

Okay, so the Red Crystals are in one tank... the Black Crystals are in another but in the BCS tank you can see RCS the Black Crystals are actually the dominate gene of Red, and some of my BCS produce RCS

Basically the RCS can't produce BCS but the BCS can Produce RCS ... oh and that lonely ole boy is my bristle nose pleco who shares with my RCS, my BCS share with another Long fin albino Bristlenose pair I have that are almost at breeding age...

Oh Mumba's fish room is a busy one lol

  4. Okay I have taken photo's its my photography skills not Patrick's... so, excuse the quality of them ! LOL th_IMG_3003.jpg th_IMG_3002.jpg th_IMG_3004.jpg th_IMG_2948.jpg th_IMG_2869.jpg th_IMG_2850.jpg th_IMG_3007.jpg th_IMG_2966.jpg

The second last picture is Momma, coming out to investigate wafers, and the last photo is their tank mates... the betta's leave the pleco's alone.. as you can see my tank is covered with baby pleco's.. There has to be over 50 maybe even more then 70, I have not tryed to count. Patrick and I are in the process of doing an experiment, my water is specially conditioned with R/O mix and minerals because our well water has a ph of 8.8 high with sodium.. this high PH water works great for our victorians but not so great for breeding betta's although betta's do well in this water when adult but fry are never produced.. I also breed shrimp which wouldn't do so great in these extremes.

So, Patrick and I took 4 baby pleco's at 3 days old to see if the extreme water difference would effect them in anyway. It appears it doesn't so far, we are waiting for a bit longer to move these guys over to a larger more roomy tank this tank is only 10 gals, and mom and dad pleco are very prolific so far the dad pleco is in his cave always... and she is almost ready to go again :boxed:

  5. I sent you a pm :) Also, you should drop by and see them!!

so to small to travel :) lol

want to trade for some angles for plecos:)

we have a angle production line here.

my pair have spawned twice in the last week so there are

a few free swimming and about 100 wigglers.

and in another tank 30 4 month olds and

in the big tank 12 year olds ( no no not 12 year olds "12" that are a year old) lol

so many sizes to choose from

if you want to see what they look like, i took a batch of 60 5 month old ones to golds a couple weeks ago.

    later

    matt
