I was in Gold Aquariums in Calgary the other day and there was a quite large and quite beautiful cichlid for sale that I wanted to add to my cichlid tank and I do not remember what the species was. Can anybody give me an idea of what this might be? It is about 7 inches from nose to tail. It is black with blue and green speckles and it has a yellow nose.

So...the tank is working well. I bought a frontosa yesterday and another cuchlid from Gold Aquariums in calgary and they are doing well. So are all the other fish that were already in there.

Hey all. My name is Jacen and I am from Calgary. I have only been involved in the hobby for just under 3 years now. I started off with a 25 gallon community tank that has been active for a long time. I have had some ups and downs over the first while but now I know a lot about keeping my fish happy. I started another tank and currently have a large tinfoil barb, a Red head severum, a parrot cichlid, a tiretrack eel, a pleco, and a red jewel cichlid. The tank that all those fish are in is only 25 gallons so tomorrow I am picking up a 60 gallon as an upgrade.

I will be transferring everything over, substrate and plants and all. The only thing that won't be transferred is the filter because the tank comes with a filter already.

I currently have a 25 gallon tank and I just arranged to upgrade it to a 60 gallon bowfront aquarium. I have never upgraded a tank before and I am wondering how it should be done. 1. Should I cycle the tank first with completely new water or should I just take all the water out of the current tank and put transfer it into the new tank and then add new water. This would be just under half of the total volume of water in the new tank. Please suggest if this is a bad course of action or not. 2. If I am able to move the water from the old tank to the new one and move the fish into it at the same time, how long should I wait before getting more fish to add to the tank? Thanks
