  1. I've got an AC150 with a noisy motor. Any suggestions on how to make the noise go away?!
  2. Thanks for the help. I found that one site as well and had a similar experience!
  3. Anyone know how to figure out how many gallons a hexagon tank is?
  4. I've thought about making it saltwater, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that kind of a committment.
  5. What about angels and rams? I know I'ld have to have smaller angels and then as they grew I would eventually have to move them to a smaller tank, but for the time being would angels and rams 'peacefully' co-exist?
  6. Thanks! I like the smaller hex tank in my office, but it's a struggle to balance the look of it. Since it's so much taller than it is wide I would like to have fish that move throughout all levels. I didn't realize Rams were predominately bottom dwellers so that's helpful.
  7. I have a 14 gallon hex in my office that I'm looking to fill. Since it's tall I'm wanting to have fish that predominately occupy the three different zones. I'ld like to go with some German Blue Rams as the main fish (by the way, anyone know where I can find some?) and I'm thinking of a couple/three corys of some kind for the bottom...a betta for the middle/top but I'm wondering about compatibility? Maybe some guppies? Any suggestions?
  8. I have a 90 gallon set up that has two fluval 404 filters on it. It's a cichlid tank so it has no live plants in it. Do I need to add an air pump or will the filters bring in enough?
  9. For those who might be interested, my problem has been solved. The flex hose that comes with the new Fluvals allows more of a bend without crimping. So, some new hoses and my filters stand as they should. To give credit where credit is due; Kari at Pisces was very helpful in solving my dilemma, and Justin helped out as well.
  10. Does anyone know if you can, or if you should, operate a Fluval cannister filter on it's side? It would take a while to explain the entire set up, but essentially on the set up I bought the the filters sit inside the stand and enter through intakes/outlets drilled in the bottom of the tank. The people I bought it from had the filters sitting at an angle and it worked great for them. But as I'm setting the tank back up one of the hoses has a kink in it (when the filter is at an angle) which doesn't thrill me, but when I lay it on it's side the hose straightens out nicely. BUT have a cannister filled with water laying on it's side doesn't strike me as a great idea either! Any thoughts? Thanks.
  11. Anyone out there build aquariums or who could direct me to someone who does? Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the feedback.
  13. Anyone out there use undergravel filters? Is there any value in using them in conjunction with a H.O.B?
  14. I'm thinking of picking up a dual bulb florescent lighting unit for my 90 gallon to replace the single bulb one that it has now. I'm thinking it will highlight the fish better and give my plants some extra help. Will the dual bulb unit do that for me? Is it worth the money? Will it create extra problems with algae? Thanks.
  15. The eggs have hatched and the little guys have buried themselves in the gravel. The parents are gone (much to the horror of my 9 year old who now believes these fry are orphans!) and I'm waiting for them to become free-swimming. Should I medicate the tank or let it go as it is?
  16. I have a pair of Red Devils in a 55 gallon tank along with a 12-14" Pleco (was suppose to be a temporary set up) and low and behold if they didn't lay a bunch of eggs on a piece of driftwood. So, according to what I've read, if all goes well the eggs should hatch in 2-5 days, the parents will be nicely attentive, and after about 4-5 days the fry will become free-swimming. Shortly after that I'm suppose to take the parents out of the tank so they don't eat them all. Does this sound right? Is there anything I can do to raise the chances of actually having some of these eggs/fry survive? Do I need to remove the pleco? The devils seem content to leave him alone but I'm not sure if this will change once the eggs hatch.
  17. I'm looking for some opinions. I have always used AquaClear (or similar) filters and they seem to work just fine. I'll have to replace the one I have on my 55 gal. soon and I'm told I should go with a cannister filter instead. What are the pros and cons of each? Does it make a difference what size of tank you have?
