  1. I'm not really into community tanks, species specific is much more my style, hence the different color morphs of the 3 spot. I like larger fish and want a bit of a showcase when I'm done. I haven't decided what plants I want yet but wanted to start my tank so i figured gouramis would be good until I make up my mind. I'd really love to keep a perch but unfortunately we're not allowed to keep native fish.
  2. Well that really screws up my plans but its good to know. Thanks for the advice.
  3. The tank is 31.5Lx11.75Wx16H. If they only get 4" long and I use the 1"/gallon rule why shouldn't more be kept?
  4. Hi, I just bought 2 opaline gouramis last saterday and I want to add a couple more. There are 2 brown three spots and a gold that i want to add to the opaline tank(25 gal). Would this be too many for my tank?
  5. Thanks for the advice, I will take out the insert and i hope to buy a pressure system after xmas. Jason- -Id really appreciate a couple strands, If I'm going to end up on that side of the city I would like to give you a shout. The light is a single 15W bulb so its only three quarters of a watt/gallon I intend to build a new canopy in Jan but this one will have to do for now. Joseph
  6. definately some of the best fishing around, haven't been up there for a few years though.
  7. Hey Slough Shark what part of the north were you living in? I'm from Meadow Lake.
  8. I'm located in Bonnyville (2.5 hours east) but I will be coming down to edmonton on the 20th to fish shop. I realize plants will remove ammonia and nitrates, I'm curious to know if i should take the ammonia remover out of the filter.
  9. Hi I just bought a 25 gallon from a lady i work with and want to plant it up. I purchsed laterite from the lps today and will get some sand this weekend and will redo the bottom - I hate the stupid blue and white rocks. The hood has a 15W strip florescent but it is near a window and gets slightly filtered direct sun for about 1.5 - 2 hours each morning. I realize this leaves me only about 3/4WPG. Any plants I can grow in this? anyone have some extras they want to sell cheap? I'd like to do tall plants on the left tapering down to a carpet like plant on the right. If possible I'd like to grow plants that look identical to the green one on the left. I am currently building a DYi CO2 and reactor. Also my HOB (AC50) has a course sponge, then an anmonia remover then bio balls, do i need to remove the anmonia part if I'm going to have a planted tank? or just leave it in there? I haven't decided what kind of fish I want yet but it will be a species tank. Thanks for any advice in advance. Joseph
