  1. Yep, it does. The pots them self, make it harder to clean. I have to suck inside of them, and also move them to get around the bottoms!! But, I think a few aquatic plants help the tank, and are a nice decoration! I personally don't think gravel should be in a Discus grow out tank, in amounts larger then a few pots full.
  2. Hey guys, Why can't I keep my plants a live!? I got quite a few (all aquatic) like anubius, lotus, rotala, amazon sword, and a few others. I dose sugar yeast C02, all the plants are in flourite gravel, and I have started adding Flourish comprehensive supplement for planted tanks. Most are also in their little pots with that fiber stuff for the roots. Why are the plants dying!? I have never had any problems with planted tanks, till' I tried one in Calgary!! The leaves/stems will turn brown, then go see through, then fall off!! I am guessing it's lacking some nutrients, but I have heard Calgary water has quite a few heavy metals. Could there be something in the water??
  3. Thank you! Lots of people don't like the dots on the pigeon blood, but I personally don't mind em'
  4. Not great to be honest. Most of the stuff we carried were more of the community fish, along with some african/south american cichlids and of course goldfish. We had about 20 freshwater tanks, and maybe 15 salt water, most of the salt water came from the Pacific. Although I don't know much about saltwater fish. We couldn't get predatory fish like snake heads, Oscars where hard to get, and some other Cichlids and Arrowana. Also, aquatic plants weren't allowed. Discus came in, but always in bad shape. Aquatic supplies was also limited in some aspects. I guess that would make sense. You wouldn't want introduce a Snake head into their ecosystem. Eitherway welcome and i hope you enjoy your time here. Yes, that was the big problem. Lots of people would call in asking if it would be okay to discard there unwanted salt water fish into the ocean

  6. Hey guys, This is my 50 gallon, bare bottom Discus tank (well more the inhabitants.) http://img86.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000636tj4.jpg http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000629fg9.jpg http://img86.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000630kj9.jpg http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000633wg6.jpg http://img139.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000631hx6.jpg http://img144.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000635vr1.jpg I got one more, but I couldn't get a picture of him :P
  7. We got some pretty good guys where I work, although we are sold out of most of them... PM me if you would like to know :ph43r:
  8. Yep, it's a pretty good mix, both come from the same type water. What size tank are you putting them in? I would say a Ph of 6.5 is good, but most tank bred fish (with a few exceptions) should have no problem living in almost any Ph. I wouldn't recommend adjusting the Ph unless you are using R/O/De-ionization. I personally think chemicals are a waste of time, and are risky. I try not to use any more chemicals then needed.
  9. Hey Fresh fish, I like the tank (saw it from another forum  ) Is the yellow a Gold Phoenix? If it is, then I got one myself!!
  10. Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, but not new to fish keeping. I own a 50 gallon Discus tank, with the inhabitants being 5 Discus, and 5 red eye tetra. I have two hang on filters (aqua clear and liberty) added up to 120 gallons of filtration, I do water changes once a day (20%.) The tank is bare bottom, with a few plants. My other tank is a 10 gallon, with one figure 8 puffer. It is brackish, with a specific gravity of 1.006. The filter is a hang on aqua clear 20, and water changes are done once a week (30-50%.) I have been in the hobby for about 3 years, and have worked in a few locally owned shops in the aquatics section (one being in the Caribbean!) At the moment I am working at Pisces Pet Emporium! (Not sure if I was allowed to say that or not... ) Anyways, thought I would say a little about myself, and I look forward to using the forum!! Cheers, DL
