  1. hey all, hoping someone here has some help for me with this...ive been on the net looking for info for over a month!

i go to Chile every couple of years and have made lots of friends....one of them being related to a fish importer that lives off the Venezuela\Columbia boarder by the Orinocco river. ivs seen pics of his stock as well as a long list of seasonal fish, housing methods, and web sites of other importers (in Europe and the UK) that vouch for him, and enough other info that has led me believe this is a legit buisness and a good hook up to want to give it a shot. the plan is to have him send me a box or two of something....inexpensive. i would hope customs has no problem with this. haha, i doubt it. i would imagine there are licences or something to have them pass customs. i just dont know and i dont want to send a few little fish off to their death and pick up a small coffin instead of a box of fish...you get the idea. any help in this would be very helpful. thanks again. Rolando

  2. Nice plecos!! Just be very careful with those arows I once had some with there yolk sacks and they are very fragile! Dose not take much for them to pop!

How old are your rays? I just got some young ones a few days ago!

i noticed your pics of the new rays. they look nice. mine are about a year old. doing well too....

  3. it depends on the size and types of rays. i currently have two motoros and i used to keep mine with a bunch of clown loaches and two royal plecos. i now have them with some raphiel cats, a pair of tukishen? cats and a whack of other south aricans. the trick is to keep a close eye on how they react and get along with each other. i even had frontosas with them for a couple of months. i would mix the stingrays and fish on a day you have plenty of time to watch them mingle. if you have any in mind you could always post and see if you get anyone with experiece on that combination.

  4. Just want to share a couple pictures of the recent spawns.

The 1st picture is from 2 spawns which were not very sucessful I could only save 5 babies in total.

The 2nd picture is from the most recent spawn. About 1 week old total 10 babies.

most exellent!! congrats!! id love to be on the list when they are for sale.

  5. Hope this is a good place to post this! so i was at petland the other day and happend to catch them during feeding time. i noticed they were feeding a baby (frozen) mouse to a fish. i thought, what kinda fish eats mice. im not sure what kind of puffer he is but hes not very active and not very aggressive (ive had him in with feeder fish for weeks now and the odd one will go missing but i usually have to place krill or shrimp right in front of him for him to eat). he's dark green/brown body with dark green spots and slightly red eyes. just wondering what he is, water conditions, im not really sure how much salt for a brackish tank, the kids at the store told me two tablespoons per fiver which is what im using now. tho two smaller green puffers have gone to the big bucket in the sky(they werent doing any better at the store). and what kind of food would be benificial (i just dont know of any swimming mice!) . he seems to be doing ok but im sorta wondering if hes supposed to be more active. once in a while at night he comes out of his cave for a swim but not much more then that. thanks.

thank you evryone for the info...hes doing well now and has colored a little better. the info was right and it loves shrimp and anything with a shell. is also an awsome hunter, i was keeping him with eight feeder guppys (less then an inch) and he catches most of them within a day. i will have to keep him alone i think. thanks again.

  7. So, do the eggs hatch in about three days?

id say in about thirty to fourty hours....tho there were a coupla late bloomers. they are all hatched now and you can even see some tiny eyes. they like to keep to the side, black silicone, and are all lined up vertical...sorta makes it easy to count. id say at least fifty! (thats from two mums). im feeding crushed nls and brine shrimp.

  8. i have two female petricolas that im sure are preggo... just wondering if anyone has any experience on petricolas and knew their incubation time, time that mom carries them and anything else that might help. thanks

    Update:monday jan28/08

so far so good. mom just dropped her eggs and i gave dads about three hours to fertilize them. i scooped them out of the pot (not as easy as i thought), and have transplanted them into an egg tumbler that i just picked up from 'bigfishal' (looks like everything is working well). now the only thing i have left to do is wait four or five days....i think. heres some pics anyways.

    Update2:tuesday jan29/08

this morning at about 6:30am (early bird) i found a second clutch of eggs!! must be from mommy petricola number 2. its a boy, its a girl. its twenty girls and thirty boys...too early to have a cheers?

    update3:wednesday jan30/08

this morning at 7:00am i noticed ten or more little 'tadpols'. hope this means all is well...ill try and get some pics but they are almost smaller than the eggs.

    update4:wednesday jan30/08

awsome! im still amazed! there must be 40 or 50 of 'em. here's some pic's of the little devil's! :thumb's:

***sorry about the dirty glass pics...wasn't expecting company***

anyone know what to feed these guys or when for that matter (they still have the embryo sacks on em). ? i have crushed pellet food...any other suggestions?

  9. They scatter their eggs, they are not mouth brooders. I'm trying to get mine to lay eggs in an inverted flower pot with marbles on the bottom, but no luck so far. There are experts here that will answer you I am sure.

im currently trying two different methods...the flowerpots and marbels seems to be a good place to play but no luck yet. the second method is covering one flowerpot with a mesh or net type material so that the egges fall thru but the fish dont and inverting a second pot over the first. i had a couple of eggs deposited there but they were not fertilized.

  11. thats a young royal pleco. he did well for six months and then.......hes in a better place anyway. i have two other royals that have been doing really well but im still on the lookout for one with those colors...

Pic 4 and 5 from the top, very pretty pleco, looks enough like a zeb for me to want one, lol ^_^ Maybe it is just the lighting or angle in the pic making it look like a zeb
  12. ive been trying to figure out the same thing as i have 20 or so petricola...ive heard theres a method using upside down potting bowls. i saw a cool video of it on youtube, try petricola in the search bar

I was looking for information on breeding S. petricola. I have 8 that I purchased two and a half years ago. I don’t know how many males or females I have but three of them look kind of “plump” – bellies are fatter.

Are there some good links to this or people with experience?

I have a 33 gallon tank I could dedicate for this purpose if it is big enough. They are very active when mixed in with other fish in my 45 gallon or 90 gallon tank but I don’t know the signs of spawning behaviour or how to go about making it a success.

  13. hey there everyone. names rolando and im in calgary....what a sweet site you have here and im happy to hopefully be a part of it. i only have a coupla years experience but ive always been into pets and animals with a special facsination with fish, spiders and dogs. i currently have a 180 with ,like, 10 different species of plecostomus, some loaches and a few other fairly peaceful breeds. also have a couple of 55 and two 40s that im constantly moving fish in and out (medical tank and new fish tank). i have a p. motoro stingray for about six months now and find him an awsome addition tho id like a little more info on them. im also interested in rare and odd breeds of almost any animal. also own two rotweilers and a green bottle bush tarantula!(you should look up this little guy on the web, awsome colors!). feel free to contact me.
