  1. Well the unfortunate thing is the Cory's got them But my fish are happy and spawning again. Now though i have a tank that has ich So now I have the joy of getting rid of this in a fully planted tank and then trying again with the spawning and raising. Alley
  2. In the link that you gave, the gravel there is Flourite. I use the same stuff for my planted tank and when combined with a little plant fertilizer from Flourish my plants grow like weeds.
  3. Maybe get some Otocinclus. I have been having a problem with alge as well especially hair alge. Picked up 6 of these little guys for my 33 and all the hair alge was gone in like 4 days. They work fast and are cute. Allicia
  4. Hey there all. My German Blue Rams or Mikrogeophagus ramirezi have just layed eggs yesterday. I live in Calgary and am new to egg layers and the breeding of this fish. My water mesures to a moderate hardness, since someone told me they don't hatch well in hard water which is mostly what Calgary is I hear, and they are in a nice well planted tank right now hiding behind some a bunch of Vallisneria spiralis in the corner of my 33 Gallon tank. My question is, is there anything I can do to help these eggs hatch and get them to the fry stage? How long will it take them to hatch? And should I worry that the male which is garding the eggs does not come out to eat with the rest of my fish? Any help you can give would be awsome. Allicia P.S. My avatar is my Male Blue Ram.
  5. Where are you? Because Hennry at Natures Corner in Edmonton also has a pretty nice selection some times and gets his plants from Tropica. I have 6 plants from there and they have been pest free, well adapted, and great root systems on them to start. Actually just brought home 3 from there today, hehehe. Allicia
  6. Try Riverfront Aquariums. They have a pretty good selection when they get stuff in, and they are labeled, hehe. The DIY CO2 canisters are 1 for up to 20 gallons and 2 does like 45 gallons. I would suggest investing in a canister system. Then you can set it up on a timer and ajust the CO2 level to where you want it. Allicia
  7. I used to use a DIY CO2 reactor but for my 33 gal tank found that there was just not enought CO2 for my planted tank. Now that I have set up a canister system I have found that my plants are not only growing faster, bushier and more colorful, they are now starting to pearl. The Anubias barteri var. nana so far are the only ones that have been pearling so far. Maybe you just need to increase your CO2 output just a notch? What size of tank do you have and what type of anubias, just curious? Allicia
  8. My name is Allicia and I am from Calgary. I am 22 years old and love my fish, but my plants more so. I have been keeping fish for about 5 years now, but only this summer realy had the ability to delve a little deeper into the hobby. This is all thanks to my BF Christian/Tortis. I have found a new passion for aquascaping and all the wide varieties of plants and their difficulties in sometimes growing them, its Christians fault. Hope to get to know you all well Alley
