  1. I will replace it on wednesday, just trying to get till then. The air pumps I had don't work anymore so dont have many other options right now. I figure if I glue it together I can replace it wednesday.
  2. well looking at the internet it seems that the silicone i have won't work. The other option is running to seven eleven and grabbing some crazy glue. Will this be okay with the fish?
  3. Well now It seems i have found the problem. There is a crack in the female end of the two valve assembly. just a hairline that gets worse when tightened. I dont have any crazy glue but do have some bathroom sealant. Is this toxic to fish?.
  4. The gasket looks good. It seams to fit snuggly. I don't get it, it was working when i took it apart. ive tried to reprime. very strange. wouldnt be a big deal if it was a little earlier in the day. How long can they make it with just a couple air bubblers? 6 angels, 7 congos, 1 bn pleco 4 bolivian rams unfortunately i dont have another filter around.
  5. Could I possibly take one of teh HOB filters from the 20g tanks? I think its an aquaclear 150. I know its a pitiful turnover rate.
  6. So I am doing a filter cleaning on my 90g tank. I have a Ehiem 2217 and have only had it for three weeks. When I go to start it back up the discharge gasket between the "double valve" arrangement leaks. It leaks pretty bad just priming so I havent put it on yet. What can I do. Then only other tanks I have are a couple 20g with HOB filters, both full of fish. Have to work tommorow so I cant get anything till wednesday.
  7. interesting, thanks for the help. I guess the next question is where can I get some shrimp in edmonton? I guess cherry shrimp would be good to start with? I have a 20 g that Im using for guppy fry, I hope this would be okay? The angels are pretty small now, so I have some time to get a good population growing. haha. who needs frozen shrimp
  8. Hello all, I recently set up a 90g planted tank which now has angels, congos, and a bn pleco in it. I plan on getting some zebra loaches and maybe moving my bolivian rams into it as well. My question is, what kind of shrimp could I put into this type of setup? I just got interested in shrimp because of some recent posts and was wondering I they would be okay in there. On the flip side of that, If I put them in their own tank, could I breed some form of shrimp for the fish In the 90g tank to eat? Or bettas (reference to the betta/cherry shrimp tank post)?
  9. Thanks for the help again. So now I guess I just need to make a decision. I really want a BN pleco so its in. I have some ottos in my 21g tank and the ones that lived are pretty neet (3 of 6). Im kind of curious about the Pitbull plecos. Does anyone out there keep a group of these guys? Will they act as a kind of cleanup crew for uneaten food similar to corys? and if so which would you recommend - a group of Pitbulls or a bunch or corys. This is for a 90g planted community with congos, angels and Bolivian rams. Thanks for the help
  10. here is a pic of the tank so far. Its only been a week
  11. wow i never heard this before. Do you think I would have any trouble with all three together? (clown, bn, otto)
  12. Thanks for the suggestion, the carwash is probably a way cleaner way than trying to rinse it in my kitchen. haha. The fungus comes off easy with a vacuam, I was just wondering if I could use it for food to introduce some fish to the tank. I was thinking of using the BN pleco / SAE combination but now Im thinking of a BN pleco and gaggle of ottos. Thanks for that suggestion too.
  13. Hey guys, I recently set up a 90g planted tank and use a couple peices of Mopani (sp?) wood in the tanks. I soaked them in hot water for a few hours but still have some white fungusy stuff on them after some time. After looking on the internet it seams that this is somewhat normal. My question is this, they mention that some fish actually will eat this stuff but don't give examples - Does anyone know what types would do this. I plan on getting either a BN pleco of group of Ottos for the tank and maybe this would swing my decision one way or the other. (or both? haha) Thanks for any input

    foam base?

thanks for the info guys. I decided better to be safe than sorry and got some insulation. That is a good Idea for building up the base. Im doing some baseboards anyway so might just edge around the tank with 1x4

    foam base?

Sorry I'm pretty sure this post goes here. Just wondering what kind of foam or padding to use under a larger tank? I am setting up a 90g "show tank" (hopefully haha) and thinking i should make a trip to the hardware store/fishstore before i get too far. The only thing i have to use here is some of that green foam underlay for laminate flooring (maybe 2-3mm) Is this okay?
  16. yeah, i was thinking i would put them in while they were small and then move them into a 75g tank i am getting after christmas. Hoping on putting angels, bolivian rams and congo tetras in it.
  17. Hey all, I have a bit of a snail problem in my 21g community tank. Right now the tank has 7 guppies, 6 cardinals and 4 cory cats in it so I was thinking of moving the corys to a 20g I have and putting a couple/three Yo Yo's in to clean up the snails. Just wondering if anyone had issues with these guys snacking on fish or terrorizing the tank. The internet seams pretty positive on them but there are some horror stories. Originally wanted zebra loaches but arent any in edmonton that I can find.
  18. WOW!! I Love this fish. Really thinking of switching to the dark side for "just one small tank" haha
  19. Thanks for the advice! They just seem so interesting looking around on the internet I had to have some. Of course having two is different than 2000! :smokey:
  20. Hey all, I just got a 20g from my parents basement and am just about done cycling it. My plan is to use it to put some bolivian rams in while i cycle a new 75/90g im getting for them, some angels and congo tetras, but after that im wondering about using it for some convicts. The question is- is this enough room for a pair of convicts? and if it is, can i feed the ensuing hundreds of fry to the bolivians, angels and congos in the bigger tank? If not I wouldn't know what to do with them.

    Hello

I know I have no will power but luckily my girlfriend has enough for the both of us. haha
  22. Hey all, I am thinking of starting a community tank with angels in it. On other forums they really warn people to start angel tanks with more than a pair in case the fish pair up and take on the rest of the tank. Just wondering if anyone has some personal experience with this. I plan on starting a 75g tank after the holidays and keep flip flopping between discus and angels for the "centerpiece" fish. Being new to this everyone I talk to says angels are easier and cheaper if you loose some due to inexperience. I plan on having 4 angels, maybe 10 congo tetras, 6 cory cats, and 6 otos in a well planted 75g. I guess my question is, if I have a well planted tank thats largish (?) can I get away with having 4-6 angels in together? The only other tank I have is a 21 gallon community tank with cardinals and guppies in it so I don't have to room to transfer a lot of fish.
  23. Thanks for the advice guys!! As a typical newbie i've totally changed my mind again. I think I'm going to go with what I really wanted to get in the first place - Discus. haha. I know, I know, but I AM a little crazy. I wanted a peaceful planted tank so I think I can have it with them, with a little work. right now this is what I'm thinking for a 75g. 6 Discus (I think mixing and matching is okay?) 4 blue rams 20 tetras (cardinals or/and neons) 6 cory catfish 4 otos Why not try for two of the pickiest fish at once right? I figure if i can get this to work im ready for just about anything! PS. how does that sound and what to add first!! Im hoping to get a tank at the Big Als boxing week sale and cycle my tank with my present 6 cardinals and 3 x-ray tetras
