-

-
does anyone know where to buy 3M color quartz in the Edmonton area?
or perhaps another black sand i can mix with play sand to darken it a little bit.
did you check sil-silica? just off 17st & yellowhead

thiers nothing economical or efficient about running three filters when one will do. thats three times the power, maintenance and problems/hassle. you are right about canisters and w/d's not being in the same catagory, one is WAY better than the other, but BOTH are better than hob's (imo)If I were you, get another one or two Aquaclear 500/110. These one of the most economical, effecient, and easy to use filters for freshwater application. I don't believe cannisters and W/D fall in the same category, atleast in my personal experience. I currently run 3 AC 110 on my 125g and I am very happy with them, would not change it for anything else even if it was free. -
i can sugest the obvious, a dehumidafier. but they are really pricey, you can get creative and try an exhaust fan and duct it outside but with winter comming that could be a problem (ice buildup) or you might have to simply cover all your tanksI have One Koi tank 40 gal-no heat or bubbles coveredGuppy Tank 15 gal -Aqua giant 5 dollar sponge in tank filter with bubbles and Canopy
One 15 Gal Mr Blue's tank- Heated and same filter as above
30 Gal Cichlid tank heated with a full covered and And the same type of bubble filter as above
Thanks

absolutely, and thier SO easy to makeWe just bought s 110 gallon tank it came with a aquaclear 500 we are looking for other a cannister filter or a trickle what's the cheap and most efficient? Thanlks for your helpCheapest and most efficient is a DIY w/d.
-
it will be holding either a 75 or a 90, plus a 20 gallon, and a 15 gallon.
thats nothing. when is the last time you heard of tank going through the floor anyways?
-
CRAZY TALK! pm'd you my #, gimme a call and i'll show you how easy it is to set upi may end up buying just a cannister filter lol and give away the sump. -
check the archives about coralife lights. it probably is the ballast, and if it is, it CANT be replaced
-
WOW! that is CHEAP! thier is like 5 tenecor dealers in edmonton, but thier NOT cheap
-
I have kind of a silly question.
the only silly question is a question not asked, or "what kind of fish should i put in my tank?" just boil them, they should be fine
-
if you need a jumpstart i can give you some sponge out of my trickle, i clean them every other month and it takes FOREVER! squeeze it out in your tank and instant establishment
-
prime IS the best bar none. i used to use aqua plus but after reading a thread on mfk, it dosent even de-clorinate like they clam, it did'nt do ALOT of things they claimed. that stuff was'nt fit to flush down my toilet!

houses are so overbuilt (especiall the older ones) i would not hesitate for a second to put those tanks on a main floor. i've seen a 450 gal on a second floor of a 40 year old house with no problems. assuming you have 2x8 or 2x10 joists how much force do you think it woul take to break just one of them standing on end? you would be AMAZED how strong they are. and your rack will be spanning MANY joists
-
i've busted a few and i suspected heat was the culprit. i got them re-cut and no problems. i think the pieces were just old and maybe a little bit brittle
-
I dont' add anything else to the water. Just tap + prime
ditto, besides a half recomended dose of prime i dont use ANY chemicals, EVER! i fill a blue rain barrel and add prime and let it sit overnight with a heater and big airstone
-
ba's JUST for filter floss (bulk roll's) anything else, anywhere else

thats a simple fix. cut a strip of glass about 3-4 inches wide and put it in the center of the tankUnfortunately my tank doesn't have that support in the middle. So using two lights is out. It'll have to be one long light or something hung from above, but to be honest I'm not fan of hanging lights. -
Im a new aquarium hobbyist
stick to freshwater and take your lumps there, saltwater is very unforgiving and requires a fair bit of experience, and its not cheap. just my two cents
-
for a 6' tank i would look into 2x3' fixtures and use them side by side, the fixures and bulbs should be cheaper too. i just bought a 48" 4x65 watt fixture with lunar lights for 120.00 bucks delivered to my door (included bulbs) so i find spending 400 on a fixture is just too much, shop around...

rumor has it the 50'th street one will be sold off or closed too, not sure exactly when. The 170st one no longer exists. -
it's because, not coz :chair: i think its safe to assume a lot of people go there, and often :shock:coz -
mfk just did a servey and 80%(i believe) said they shoot for a ten times an hour turnover. (if its a 100 gal tank, 1000gph pump) but remember, you lose ALOT of pressure through 90* elbows, ballvalves and headheight. my 90"s 1800gph pump is NOT pushing 1800gph to the tank, after my seastorm, uv sterilizer, 90*'s and headheight thiers prob only about 1400 gph going to the tank, and im using a 2" return line. as long as the fish ar'nt slamdancing in your tank and thiers slow current spots to chill in too much circulation is just right, GO BIG!

or educate yourself on sumps, and how easy to maintain and uber reliable and efficient they are. then plumb the tank and run a sump

i think the only reasonable sugestion is to host an aa cabin party and we can have a good look at the sand :drunk:
