  1. fish of the month is too easy, for some that is. we should have a member tank of the month. same kind of idea.
  2. So i have everything plumbed, but now i have another issue. i need suggestions i am willing to try out almost anything. the tank is 230 with 2 overflows, i have 2 inch ABS running from the bulkheads into a 90 Gal sump. and 1 1/2 running from the sump to the pump to the main tank again. I had posted about a noise problem. the fix a Dorso pipe. the new problem, is that it doesnt fit. the dorso pipe that my buddy wanted to set me up with is a 2 " design for flow. but we have the connector screwed to the bulkhead, and a 2 inch T section. and the 90 wont fit in the overflow with it. tried it with out a 90 like that and its still noisy. then i tried the 2 inch connector to a 2 inch T that goes to a 1 1/2 intake and 1 1/2 air intake. the top is still capped. now i have run into the it wont take in enough water problem and i am forced to shut the tank down as it was going to spill over. the new solution is taking just a straight pipe cutting slits into it and capping it. will i have the same problem with not enough intake? Do i have to switch my 2 inch plumbing for something smaller as it sounds like there isnt enough water going through and sounds as someone is emptying a bath. im sorry for all the questions and i know it may be frustrating for some because i post on almost the same stuff. But it will help me out in the long run and hopefully with someone else on here, in the future if they have the same problems. Thanks again in advance, and advice or contraptions is very well appreciated. Dalray

  4. its black in color but i will be modifying it as i will be having sand in it and dont want it going into the pump.
  5. i thought my new 230 was sweet. that is sick dude. congratulations
  6. What is the general rule of thumb, for how many fish you can have per gallon etc... i cant remember what the math is for it.
  7. At least your being smart about the foundation part. that much weight would of destroyed the old house foundation. Looks good though. keep us posted.
  8. Updated: October 2007 My coral reef aquarium was an Oceanic 180 gallon (680 liters) located in my dining room. It had two overflow boxes, one in each back corner. The aquarium came with a perforated pipe (a tube with a hundreds of holes in it) in the overflow chamber. This allowed the water to flow into the pipe quickly. However, this also meant that the water level in the overflow chambers was very low -- about 3 inches (8 cm) deep. standpipe.jpg Durso Standpipe™ - Original Prototype DOES IT HAVE TO BE THAT LONG? I CAN ONLY GO A FEW INCHES AT THE MOST. March 1999 With such a low water level, water entering the overflow chamber had about a 20 inch (50 cm) drop! This sounded like Niagara Falls with about 1,500 gallons (5700 liters) per hour enter the overflow chambers. Secondly, each chamber made a gargling noise -- sounded like a toilet flushing 24 hours a day. It was so loud my wife could not sleep. I had to fix it fast! A solution was suggested to me by Mark Lanett -- use a solid stand pipe with a submerged intake. This solution solved all my problems: 1. Little to no water fall. 2. Whisper quiet, no splashing or gurgling. 3. Each chamber becomes a refugium. 4. Chambers will not drain in a power outage. 5. Pipe is self priming. Pictured to the left is the very first Durso Standpipe™ ever made. It is the original prototype I tested. The current design is slightly different with an operating water level a few inches higher. This design is perfect for coral reef display, fish only saltwater or fresh water aquariums where you need a quieter display tank.
  9. So my tank is up, water in it everything, but it makes a hell of a lot of water noise. my buddy says i have to build a ?Dorsal? pipe. what is it and how do i build it. supposedly its supposed to go in the overflows?
  10. the tank is filled and the pump works, now all i have to do is add lights sand and let it cycle
  11. i agree here, i myself wish to breed the turqoise discus, but the good looking skinny half says not until you can get rid of the cichlids, so now im in a dilemma. all the power to you dude, im sure it will be nice whatever you decide.
  12. So since there will be 4 stingrays in the tank , my buddy and all his wisdom has decided weather i like it or not 2 of them are pre named. one will be Steve and another Irwin. bad joke yes some it may humor but others it will not.

  16. I know i have a spending problem when it comes to hobbies. my racing has cost me well over 30,000 over the last 2 years. my r/c planes and trucks etc.... a few more grand. and as for fish tanks. lol dont even go there. even though i got this set up at a steal of a deal. $1300. lol The overflows were already on the ends when i purchased the tank. plus it gives more room inside the tank. the in tank overflows cuts down on the volume in the tank. i will post tons of pics when it it done i plan on starting the plumbing tommorrow. as for the arowanas not sure yet a silver one i have no clue yet. who ever has the best fish at the best price. but wont settle for one at the stores here. there is nothing wrong with the stores here but for some reason i have been gettign alot of attitude from employees at some of the stores. or they snubb me off to talk to co workers. no offence Big Als has been great to me. For product wise etc.. but some employees shouldnt be working there. just my 2 cents and sorry if it offends, if it does let me know through a pm and i will change this post.
