  1. Agreed, Now only if they thought of it that way! Instead of $$$$$$$$$$! TY Sam, 1 day they'll seee it our way, lol.... Take Care, shay.
  2. I'm sure you've all got your beefs... here's mine! After much research I've found out fish are not covered by the local animal cruelty laws. This is bull$#@!. Without naming names, 1 of our L.F.S's is NOT doing there job. Only 25 tanks, dead fish everywhere! Stuck to the filters, Betta's 2 dead in the cups!( Bettas don't like to live in CUPS!) These fish have been dead for along time... Mold growing on them. Out of 25 tanks, 5 not for sale due to heath issues. Ich, hole in the head, etc... After a confrontation the manager told me that due to a labour shortage, she dose not have the time to take care of the fish... TOO BAD!!!! if you can't take care of them, DON'T. Illness is a fact of life, neglect on the other hand. Well thats just wrong. When i reported this to the store owner, I received a 25 percent discount. Can you say PAY OFF! I turned it down and told her, use that money to take care of your fish! A life is a life... You can sell these fish @ a 500 percent mark up, you could at least take care of them... I'm sure you've seen worse, but that's mty beef! At least we love our fish!!! Shay.
  3. Thanks all for the great help, it is way better already. I bought a few more 5 gal pails , and the breeder gave me 20 gallons of his water. That and a couple of 30 percent water changes, levels are just above normal. I'll wait another day, then do another 30 per water change. Lesson learned! TY, again... S.
  4. THANK YOU! seajays, great info. I'm doing lots of reading! I feel like a $#@! head! I should have know better... Thanks again for the help! S.
  5. Do you mean nitrites? I may have got them confused but yah... You posted nitrates don't kill fish only a nitrate spike. Is that not the same? Ty for the advice though... S.
  6. Hey all, I made a mistake with a tank. I know what I did now but it's too late... I have a spike in nitrate major losses. I went to my breeders and got 10 gallons of good water, and some of his filter inserts squeezed in there as well. So I did a 50 percent water change adding his water, and some new water. 3 of the fish survived and I think they will make it, is there more I can do? The tank was cycled... Like an idiot I did a 90 percent water change and washed out the filter inserts before adding new fish, I know STUPID! me! I added cycle as well, is there more I can do? please some advice... Sorry it's a 44 gallon, had 10 1" fish, lost 7 in 6 hours. Been 36 hours now seems to be getting better. Should I do 50% a day? Let me know. TY. S.
  7. Hey all, I've been reading on this topic. the general opinion seems to be that you can never have too much filtration. That's what I always thought as well. I have an AquaClear 500, and an AquqClear 200 on my 44 gallon tank. Is this too much?? I have heard you can have too much air in a tank, really bad for some cichlids. Is the same true with filters? I ask cause I put 3, 2" fish in the tank. Tank is already cycled, with very good water test results. They didn't stick to the filter, or have any problems getting around, but died in 5 hours. New fish now been in there 5 days no problems, they are a little larger. Any advice or opinions on this topic would be great! Thank You. S.
  8. Thank you all for the welcome. Right now I have in the 44 gal a pair of Oscars about 6" each. In the 33 I have 3 Angels, 1 Redtail shark, 2 I think they're called Checkerd barbs. The 20 gal has a pair of Pseudotropheus zebras. In the 10 I have 1 Jewel 4". This weekend I'm picking up my 90 gal, I'm soooo excited. My oscars are going to get that tank, and the 44 will be empty. I could really use some ideas. It'll for sure be a cichlid tank. I just want to be sure not too over crowd. Thanks again, great forum. S.
  9. Hey all, what a great place you have here. A wealth of great information, and experience all in one friendly place... I am from Calgary, and have been into collecting fish for around 15 years now. Can't seem too stop, lol. Who would want too. I have already read some helpful info here. I can tell it'll be a great place to learn and share. Thank You. Have a great day. Shay.
