  1. And I think we all want to know how much it cost and who built it Very very nice, you for sure have to have pics when you have it running with the fish. You're a very lucky man. I have over 230 gallons of tanks, but spread out to 5 tanks.
  2. If you bred discus I would be all in for buying some
  3. Ok I found some from that seller, now I want your help in purchasing the best one for my needs. I don't necessarily need it for drinking, only for my aquariums. So which one would you suggest would be the best one for this? Here are the 4 I was looking at. And aside from those, what other equipment will I need to purchase as well? http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUA-SAFE-HOME-II-100-G...1742.m153.l1262 http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUA-SAFE-AQUARIUM-II-R...1742.m153.l1262 http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUA-SAFE-MAXIMUS-II-RE...1742.m153.l1262 http://cgi.ebay.ca/AQUASAFE-MAXIMUS-COMBO-...1742.m153.l1262 I really appreciate all the help you guys can give me since I am totally clueless about these. Thanks
  4. Yeah I didn't see any items from that seller on ebay this time, but I will check into them and see if they might have anything, thanks
  5. Is this a good unit for the price? http://cgi.ebay.ca/5-STAGE-REVERSE-OSMOSIS...1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. thanks, I see that, it looks more fun than trying to take pictures of my fish anyways
  7. It looks like a firemouth to me, Thorichthys meeki? I guess not really, but that is my guess.
  8. But isn't the flames ahead of edmonton right now? Thanks Sam!!
  9. Thanks guys, I will be sure to check out ebay then. It looks very difficult though to clean them and stuff, is it really as difficult as I have been reading?
  10. No I wasn't offended, thanks for your advice though. It's just that I don't have any extra tanks at this time to quarantine them. Lol I don't think any of my spare tanks would even fit them to quarantine them. So I will probably just leave the RO then for now, and maybe in the future if I plan to breed them I will invest in one. The only reason I want to get them is for mates for my single discus that is left, and because they are such a great price. They always have better deals on discus at this store than any I have been to.
  11. I have been doing my research on reverse osmosis units, but the thing is I don't want to pay a complete fortune and have no clue what brands would be best to get. I was thinking of just doing partial RO water to partial tap water for my tank. Does anyone know of a good place to purchase one of good quality and not too badly priced? I will be using it on my 90 gallon tank, I might be buying wild caught discus and would really like to match their water conditions as much as possible to ensure they have a long and healthy life. Oh and I forgot to ask, if I were to buy distilled water for now and add a little of that to the water changes until I get the RO, would that be fine? Or would it be better to do plenty of small water changes until I get it?
  12. I know. They do prefer a lower water hardness and a lower pH. We do have discus already, and I know exactly what they prefer. I am just worried that keeping them in alberta water might kill them. I will probably invest in an RO unit if I did buy them, and the tank mates they will be going in with prefer the same sort of conditions. So they will all benefit from RO. If I were to get a couple, how long do you think I should wait to treat with RO water? If I buy them then I will have to wait a month to get enough money for the RO unit. The guy from the store said that they don't put any different water in their tanks, and I do trust him as we are regular customers and he has been of great help in the past. Edit: I forgot to say this, the store we will be buying from keeps their fish in quarantine for 2 weeks before selling to the public, can I rely on this or do you still suggest I quarantine them myself for 3 months?
  13. I was thinking of buying a nano cube, and trying out a few species of salt water fish. What would be the hardiest fish for beginner salt water keepers? Or any suggestions on live coral or anything? I have been keeping freshwater for years now, but want to try salt water because they are just gorgeous.
  14. LOL I love your signature, I feel the same way. Yeah guess it doesn't matter, I just don't like your hockey team. lol no offense anyone, as everyone has their favorite.
  15. Is there any contests on things like fish of the month? If not then have you ever thought of having it? You could do the contest based on a different color of fish each month, or different species of fish. People send you pics, then we have to vote for which one we like best. The winner would win some sort of small reward.
  16. Today I was at the LFS, and they had some really nice wild caught discus. I am not sure of the type they are, but they are like 7 inches in diameter. The store owner told me that they want $60 each, but they won't be ready until next week. Is this a good deal or what? Does anyone else have any experience with wild caught discus? I am just afraid to buy them and then they die on me because of the difference's in water. But it is a really good deal and I was contemplating on getting a couple. They will be going into my 90 gallon of course with my other discus and other SA/CA cichlids.
  17. too far to travel for fish. I really wanted to look into getting some apistos, but I can never find any here, or at least the ones I would like to get.
  18. I just noticed, but how come it says I am from Edmonton and area, when I put in my profile that I am from Calgary. Who knows.
  19. How much would you offer for the babies once they are big enough? I would be interested in having a look.
  20. I just finally got more males for my 2 females yesterday. I am hoping to also get them to spawn. Everywhere I read said that they are harder to spawn in higher pH and harder water. So I guess you have proved them wrong. I would also grind up some flakes, into fine powder for the babies, and then switch to baby brine shrimp. I know I had a very difficult time trying to separate my convicts fry, the babies would cling to the rocks. I am not sure how rams fry would be. As far as what I have read the parents will protect their young. They were probably too inexperienced before when they ate their eggs. How big are your rams that spawned?
  21. Hi there everyone. I have not been on this forum for very long, but I am on a bunch of others, unfortunately not from this area.
