  1. i bought a jardini arowana a few weeks ago, everything was fine then, it was eating well, swimming around alot.

i started trying to switch it to prepared food about 2 weeks ago and had no success, and today i found it swimming

with its head a bit higher all the time, and usually it stays on the top but now its tail drags on the bottom quite often.

it loos sick......anyone has any idea of what might be going on?

    thank you!

    260 g

    27 C

    Amonia level normal

mMy jardini acts that way every time I introduce a new tank mate...

what types of prepared foods are you using?

My prepared food consists of chickn heart, beef heart, prawns and meal worms..

  2. I'm not sure if where to post this question so I will just post it here for now. I love cichlids and always wanted some, but because we have stingrays never could have any. Well now that we are done with breeding geo's and what not our 55 gallon has a new life. I am interested in breeding cichlids just because I breed everything..LOL. But is there any cichlid breed that doesnt require special care (meaning u dont have to take the parents out of the tank because they will eat the young ect)? What would you suggest for a newbie into the cichlid world?

well.. there's many central and south american cichlid that do a wonderful job, caring for there young..

personally, I have found that synspilums do a great job tending the babies and fending off other c/a cichlids.

Our texas pair are excellent at caring for there young as well..

    --------------------BUT---------------------

I have found that once the female is gravid again and the pair start to do there spawning ritual.. The old batch of babies will need to be either taken out of the set up or given loads of hidding spots.

    good luck..

  3. superstore has some nice large tilapia..only 3.99 a pound

Distochodus - Look at this post and ask yourself - "Does this really add any value to the forum." If you think it does, there is probably a place for you on mfk.com.

    Connie,

I did not know that there were any small Tilapia. How big will these get? Are they agressive?

    Kevin

Tilapia bythobates reaches a length of 15cm.. and they arent very aggressive, even when spawning. I bought mine as Tilapia snyderae but they turned out to be Tilapia bythobates. the two species look very similar. I was under the empression that they were very difficult to find in the hobby these days...Mine never paired off but when they matured their belly's turned a beautiful red

    .

    good luck with the breeding..

  4. Hello

live in edmonton and dont own any fish tanks but my room mate has at least 10 tanks.

I'm responsible to feed and take care of his fish fairly often. He told me to join this site to learn all about fish .

My favorite fish is a 6 banded Distichodus, we have a 12inch one that schools with our tinfoil barbs.
