  1. Nope don't like to paint the backs of my tanks, gonna use a blue vinyl decal that come's in large sheets for the back. Easyer and cleaner to put on and I can take it off and reapply it as many times as I want it I don't like the colour.
  2. Well after the electrical fire in my room, and finally not having holidays or other projects, I finally got my tank setup and put my fish in. My Bio media was cycled out in the sump of my old 55Gal, and then transfered to my FX5. I used sand/crushed coral mix for substrate. I will have more pics once I have time to tape/mud and prime and paint as well as a few other odds and ends.
  3. Well finished the studding around my tank today with the help of my buddy Colin. I included A 36" door for access to the fish/reptile room behind the tank. For filtration I decided to go with a single fluval FX5, as I have very long hours at work and don't get home till late, so I wanted a simple filer that would be easy to maintain and forgiving when it came to topups unlike the sump for the 55Gal that my africans are currently in. For heating the tank I will be going with 2 of the new fluval 300watt E300 electronic heaters. Great heaters with digital readout for the temp in the tank. I just have to install the door and do some drywalling/tapemudding and I will be quite close to being done.

  5. Well I have 2 40lb bags of crushed coral for my new 180Gal but wanted to mix it with some fine white sand as the price of the coral is kinda high ($55 a bag). Where in edmonton can I find pool filter sand or a fine grain sand for the bottom of my tank to mix with the crushed coral I already have, or are there better sand I could use? I have tryed looking In edson where I live but being a small town there are not many options that I like.
  6. Thanx everyone ended up going to PJ's and picking one up.
  7. Well after much begging and pleading to my wife she agreed to let me have a tank bigger than my 120. So I went down to Concept Aquarium and ordered my 72x24x24 (180Gal). Had to ask my buddy Curt bringing it in from the city as I didn't have a pickup, and my wife's cousin to help bring it into the house and down into the basement as I still had my stiches in my hand and didn't want to have them rip out. The tank stand will be part of the wall that will be going across my old reptile room (as this was one of the connditions to getting the tank), dividing it into a play room on one side for my son and a reptile/fish room on the other side. The tank will look like a window in the wall and house my peacocks and haps from my 55Gal as well as quite a few additions to the tank including a big pleco.

    Fluval FX5

Where is the cheapest place to buy a New fluval FX5, in Edmonton?
  9. Lets see if you guys can guess this one. http://albertaaquatica.com/index.php?act=a...ost&id=6511
  10. Well picked up a Red/Gold Servium from Big Al's last week for my new southamerican tank, and would love to get another one as I just love this fish. I am big into african cichlids and never really thought much about south or central american cichlids till I saw one of these.
  11. Ok bought it at the LFS in town to cycle my tank. I was going to put a firemouth and some serviums with the fish, would that be ok or am I going to have to get rid of the fish later to get my serviums I really wanted?
  12. Well I finally setup the 110Gal I had sitting around, it is currently cycling out with a single Green Terror. When done cycling I hope to add some red/gold servums that I saw at BigAls, as well as some other south americans that I havent decided on yet. I am running a single cascade 1500 canister filter and 2 300watt heater (marineland and new fluval), and a 48" shoplight.
  13. Well I was on the Aqua Giant website and saw 2 filters the HW-303A Canister Filter (http://www.aquagiant.com/product_info.php/cPath/36_59/products_id/1091) and the Jebao 304 Canister Filter (http://www.aquagiant.com/product_info.php/cPath/36_59/products_id/1102) I will be filtering a 110Gal tank and don't want to spend alot of money setting it up as I want to put more money into my 180 that I will probily be setting up at the same time. Which of these 2 filters would be worth getting, or is there another one for around the same price that would be worth getting?
  14. I have a 85Gal with my 2 sliders in it and used a piece of lexan cut in a L shape that I bent with a heatgun and put skateboard griptape so they could climb up. Both sliders fit on the ramp and took me 15 minutes to build. I attached the ramp to the tank with some tracks I built out of scrap lexan that I siliconed to the tank. Here's some pics I hope they help.
  15. Hello all, joined this board but never posted. So here go's, I live in Edson and currently keep Koi and goldfish as well as (as far as I am concerned) a failed 55 african cichlid tank and a variety of reptiles. I am currently in the process of turning my reptile room into a reptile/fish room, and am looking to upgrade my crapy 55gal to a 180gal or bigger, as well as a 110gal into a southamerican ciclid tank when the renos to my room are done.
  16. Hello all, first time as a member on this forum. As the title says I'm from Edson, Alberta but originally from Edmonton. I had been in the hobby for 6 years keeping a wide variety of fish in a community tank, and then got of the hobby for quite a few years till just recently. I currently have two tanks runny a 33 with Koi and goldfish and a 55 with a mixture of african haps and peacock ciclids, as well as a variety of reptiles.
