  1. Has anyone used startsmart complete to cycle a new tank? I was going to use stability as that is what I have used before.
  2. I am in the process of building a 122 Gallon FOWLR tank with a 60 Gallon sump, and have put together a stocking list of the fish I was thinking about stocking it with. What are every ones thoughts on the fish I plan on adding? Also what's the best place in the Edmonton area to buy supplies and live stock (selection and Price)? (2) common clownfish (1) Royal Gramma (5) Blue/green chromis (1) Banggi Cardinal (1) Firefish (1) Carpenters Flasher Wrasse (1) Blue Hippo Tang (1) Yellow Tang (1) One spot foxface (1) Chalk Bass (1) Flame Angelfish or (1) Coral Beauty Angelfish
  3. Can I get pukani, at any of the stores in Edmonton, or do I have to order it? Also what are some good places to buy saltwater stuff in Edmonton that have really good pricing and are not going to break the bank?
  4. I was wondering if any other types of rock (tufa or lava) along with actual live rock could be used in a new tank during cycling?
  5. Great job and nice tank. The only thing I would be worried about is that RTC have a rep for eating other fish smaller than them and quite a few in your tank could be potential meals.
  6. The reason she is worried is that the pond is going into the front yard, as my dog will go swimming in it and my kids will try too, if it gos in the back.
  7. Well I want to build a pond next year, but my wife is afraid of some adult or kid falling into it. Has anyone heard of or seen some kind of net or other barrier that go's over the pond. The pond will be 8'x8' and 4' deep.
  8. Great looking stand, I love the colour of stain you used. Do you have pics of your glass lid?
  9. Even with bleaching, I wish my plants would grow that well.
  10. It started to die off 2 weeks before I used the excel and right after I changed my lighting. I think it is my iron as I tested it today and it was 0.
  11. The hornwort I have had for over a year and always did very well, had to cut back. The lighting is the only change to the tank. I also just started using excel a couple of days ago but woundered if I should use some sort of iron fert as well to get my plants to grow better. I even have a DYI co2 system running up till I started using the excel.
  12. Is there such a thing as to much light on a planted tank? I currently have 2 6000k bulbs over my planted tank and used to have 2 5000k bulbs. After adding the 6000k bulbs my hornwart that was doing really well, started to die off. Should I stick with my 2 6000k bulbs or switch back to my 2 5000k bulbs. They are 48" T5's.
  13. I thought I would share a video of my 180 Gallon Malawi Peacock and Hap Tank. My current stocklist is: (1) Labidochromis caeruleus (Yellow Lab) (1) 6 line front (1) OB Peacock (1) RubyRed Peacock (1) Butterfly Peacock (1) Copadichromis azureus (1) Copadichromis borleyi (Red Fin Kadango) (1) Crytocara moorii (Blue Dolphin) (1) Placidochromis electra (Deep Water Hap) (1) Steveni Taiwan (Taiwan Reef) (1) Protomelas cf. taeniolatus (Red Empress) (2) Sciaenochromis fryeri (1M/1F) (Electric Blue Hap) Non Cichlids: (1) Very Large Common Pleco (2) synodontis multipunctatus
  14. I have a 180Gal Malawi mixed with peacocks and haps. Here's my stocklist: (1) Labidochromis caeruleus (Yellow Lab) (1) 6 line front (1) OB Peacock (1) RubyRed Peacock (1) Butterfly Peacock (1) Copadichromis azureus (1) Copadichromis borleyi (Red Fin Kadango) (1) Crytocara moorii (Blue Dolphin) (1) Placidochromis electra (Deep Water Hap) (1) Steveni Taiwan (Taiwan Reef) (1) Protomelas cf. taeniolatus (Red Empress) (2) Sciaenochromis fryeri (1M/1F) (Electric Blue Hap) Non Cichlids: (1) Very Large Common Pleco (2) synodontis multipunctatus Can anyone suggest any other fish to add?, as the tank still looks really empty.
  15. I can make the side of my F150 say FX5 if you want  I don't think that you get a heater in to an FX5, I think the pressures might be too high. I have seen people do it before with smaller canisters you just drill a small hole in the top and use some good aquarium safe epoxy to seal around the cord, you have to cut the cord and get some heat shrink tube to put it back together. Try the new Fluval E-serier heaters, I bought 2 for my 180 Gallon and they are a great and reliable heater from what I have seen.
  16. Well after seeing a few posts about Discus and just love their look, but I am really unsure about what type of setup to use, and all the talk about daily water changes, makes me a little worried. I currently have 4 tanks (180gal (peacock/hap),120gal (community), 133gal (SA cichlids servium, firemouth, bloodparrot, angle, tinfoilbarb, brislenose pleco, pictus cats), 33gal (Koi, goldfish growout), and have had very few problems with these tanks and lots of breeding in some and thriving fish. I was thinking about a 125gal discus tank, maybe planted. So to all the Discus keepers, post some pics of your tanks and share any advice so that I can decide if discus are right for me or if I should just forget about it.
  17. I have a 120g planted, with 3 different types of mollies (creamsicle, black, dalmation), redswordtails, platys, guppys. I also have 11 pepper corrys, 2 large clownloaches (which do uproot and each plants from time to time), a albino chinese algae eater and 3 (I want 8 in total) simese algae eaters. My mollies do really well and breed alot in soft water (I live in Edson) with out salt.
  18. Can Maracyn 2 be used with Melafix, or do I have to finish using the maracyn 2 first? The reason that I am asking is I am treating my 120gal planted for fin and tail rot (that only seams to be affecting the guppys) with Maracyn 2 but don't have enough to finish treating for more than three days and there is none available where I live just in edmonton. Lots of Melafix in town but no Maracyn 2. Weird thing is the fin and tail rot is only effecting my guppys with the orange and black speckled fins and the ones with green fins, all other fish (mollys, playts, corys, clownloaches, chinese algie eater, simese algie eater), don't seem to be effected by the fin and tail rot. Lots of guppys have died but no other types of fish.
  19. 34 views and no answers, does anyone know the answer to my question?
  20. Just woundering if a bristlenose pleco will eat blackbrush or any type of brush algae? I have a bristlenose in my 133 southamerican tank and cleans the green and brown algae really well, but wanted to put one in my 120 community tank to deal with the bristle algae. The 120 has guppys, mollys, corys, platys, swordtails and two big clown loaches. I also have a medium chinese algae eater and three simese algae eaters (small ones).and the tank is planted.
  21. I have to agree with The-Influence, it does look like a Demasoni Cichlid - Pseudotropheus demasoni.
  22. Would love to hear any comments people have. What do you all think?
  23. Well after a very, very long build I am finally done. I put stained Fir trim with red oak (was $1.50 ceaper than pine)blocks around the tank, and then built a panel above the tank to hide the lighting above the tank and make the will looke more finished. The one side is my fishroom/reptileroom and the other is my sons playroom, and if you didn't notice he loves cars and the cars movie.
  24. Well I went to use my Hagen GH/KH test kit and the instruction book got wet and the pages stuck together and are now unreadable, so now I am unable to do any of the tests as I have no clue how many drops to use or any other things to do the test. Does anyone have one of these test kits with the instructions intacted and are able to tell me how to do each test so I can use the kit. If anyone can help it would be greatly apprecated.
