  1. A dwarf gourami would be an excellent choice. I have two, a regular and a neon blue, in my 20G planted tank with a bunch of endlers and their fry. No problems whatsoever with compatability.

ye thanks i just wanted to make sure that some of my neons didnt start dissapearing and one more question would i be able to place a ram in there as well? or would that just create a problem or something?

  2. hey, i have a 20 gallon tank that has around 6 guppies, 3 neon tetras, and one albino cory

first of all i know that cories and neons are schooling fishes and im going to be getting atleast 2 more cory cats and 5 neons (possibly 8)

what im looking for is a fish that can be the centerpiece of the tank, i was thinking of a dwarf gourami but would neons be safe with it? or is there a better fish that that i should try?

any thoughts ideas and suggestions are welcome.

    thanks

  3. I would not try it. I would not suggest mbuna in anything smaller than a 55 gallon. If have one in a 20 gallon that would be fine, if you had two they would fight non stop. and if you had 3, two would pick on one. For mbuna I would keep a group no smaller than 8. mbunas are less agressive when there is a larger group. So I would try one yellow lab or none.
hey i got a 20 gallon tank that i wanna set up and put some electric yellows in

i know the tanks not big so i was wondering if i could keep at least 3-4 electric yellows in it?

    thanks

I think the electric yellows would be happier in a 33gal tank. If they are juvi's then you could probably get away with keeping them in a 20 gal for a bit.

Keep lots of rocks and hiding places. I have read on other forums where people have kept them successfully in a 20 -25gal, however I don't personally feel they would be the most happy there.

But you wont know unless you try... If they are not happy and constantly fighting then you could always put them into a bigger tank.

ye i was actually just gonna keep juveniles in the tank right now and if they do happen to be constantly fighting i would move them but now im having second thoughts about that

do you guyz know of any cichlids i could succesfully keep in a 20 gallon? and maybe even breed?

  4. I have 3 pregnant guppies right now I recently got from a friend. I am a little worried about the females because the males will absolutely not leave them alone. I would love to be able to get the fry from them just for the experience of breeding a live bearer, but I have absolutely no clue what to do. I know you can put them in a breeder net or box when they are giving birth, and to remove the female immediately after. But when is a good time to put them in a breeder box? I was reading that I should not put them in anything less than 1/3 of their tank size, but the problem is they are currently in a 90 gallon and I have no tanks avail that would be that large. Yet at the same time the site said to put them in a small tank so the fry won't have to go far to find food. I am clueless when it comes to livebearers, haha.

By the way I do have a breeder box that will fit 2 females in separate compartments, I just don't know when I should put them in.

well if you wanted to you could just leave them in there and some of the babies will survive if theres places for them to hide, i dont think the male chasing them does any harm as long as the females have places to hide if they wanted to, and lol you dont have to put the female in any large tank, ive had females give birth in a fishbowl (she was only in there for like an hour when i was changing the water in her tank), a good way to tell when they are about to give birth is when their gravid spot is really close to their vent.

  5. i was wondering if i can keep corydoras with newborn baby guppies without losing the guppies?

also what other kind of bottomfeeders can i keep with baby guppies?

How about some cherry or ghost shrimp instead? I have kept Cories with guppy fry and with their own fry and if you don't mind a few fry missing then Cories would be ok too. Shrimp are a good clean up crew and they will breed also...baby shrimps are soo cute too.

When I was raising BN pleco fry, I had Cherry Shrimp in there to help clean up extra food - that tank bred so many Cherry Shrimp that I could scoop out a net-full every week to feed to my other fish... plus plenty to sell to other hobbyists! :)

hey thanks a lot for your comments and ive thought of shrimps before but people kept telling me how shrimps occasionally snack on the smallest fries, is that something i should be aware of?
