  1. Thanks im moving to Saskatchewan in a few weeks so might attempt that then.
  2. Thanks fishclubgirl, i was hoping you would see this post as i remember you being my go to for any and all betta questions when i first joined here. How big of a tank would you recommend for a trio of imbellis and mahachai if kept together?
  3. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had any success in keeping betta imbellis. I bought a pair and put them in my 10 gallon along with guppies and mollies but last week i rehomed the other fish so that my betta pair could be on its own and hopefully less stressed. For some reason the pair being by themselves has resulted in the pair being more stressed, the tank is moderately planted but the female always seems to be hiding and has vertical stripes most of the time. I know thats generally associated with breeding but there is no nest or anything. My main question is regarding if i can get more bettas or even keep betta mahachai or smaragdina in with the imbellis? Information online on wild bettas seems to be much harder to find and ive even read that that you can only keep two imbellis males together if your tank is at least a 33 gallon. Am i able to keep more imbellis in a 10 gallon? 2 males and 3-4 females or is that too much? Is it possible to keep a pair of mahachai or smaragdina in with my imbellis? Also my imbellis look nothing like the imbellis you see when you google, they also dont have much color for the most part, is that normal? or do they get more colorful when a but older? Thanks in advance for any help.
  4. thanks al, and I wasnt sure whether it was just the new tank, but was wondering whether the tankmates could be a factor. Also the part that confused me was the male pushing away the female and sometimes chasing her.
  5. Hey guys so kind of in need of help figuring out whats going on. The day before yesterday I bought a pair of angelfish, and yesterday I noticed both the male and female had their papillas out so I knew that they were in the mood lol and today when I came home from work, noticed both of them cleaning out the flowerpot I had put in the tank and pair seemed to still have their papillas, all good signs but then a couple hours later I noticed the female trying to lay eggs but the male not letting her, he eats all the eggs she lays and kinda just pushes her away from the flowerpot. Is this common? The person I got the angels from had told me that they had laid eggs but being a community tank with kribs and other angelfish, the eggs were eaten by other fish and they had actually said the male was pretty protective of the eggs and was fanning and guarding them. Could this just be because they are still new in the tank? By the way tank is a 33 gallon, and the tank mates are 9 cories, 4 black mollies, 3 zebra danios and one female crowntail bettas and they all seem to be getting along. Any input is appreciated. Thanks
  6. lol thanks guys, and yeah dragon those are baby tears, my favorite plant in the tank but a pain in the behind as it seems that they prefer floating around instead of staying put in the substrate, almost want to silicone them to the floor lol. Thanks avianaquatics but nawh dont really seem to be having luck with fish either, these are the first fries ive seen in a couple of months lol but my shrimps seem to be doing well lol, I think someone accidentally dropped viagra or something in the tank as I have around 10 females holding at the moment. One question seems to be puzzling me a lot, I took out the danios at least 1-2 weeks ago, how is it that I only saw the fries recently? I would think that the eggs hatched pretty quickly, a couple days max, timing just doesnt add up. Also what are these guys eating? I put in powdered flake food almost daily, seems too big for them but maybe they find microscopic food in the plants or something?
  7. Hey, so basically I started a planted 10 gallon for my red cherry shrimps a couple weeks ago, meant to have posted some pics on here about it but didnt have the chance to so far and wasnt really sure if it was worth posting lol. I think its my 3rd attempt at planted tanks and so far 3rd time seems to be the charm lol. But anyways last night while looking into the tank I noticed a very tiny fry swimming near the top, and a couple mins later my mom found another one, those 2 are the only ones we have found so far. I am pretty sure they are a spawn from my zebra danios that I had put into the tank for the first week or so for cycling and I guess they enjoyed the tank more than planned. Ive attached some pics of the baby, it was very hard to take the pic, and taken from my blackberry so not the best of camera. Thanks
  8. Thanks everyone for your help but had a change of plans, I ended up getting 5 black mollies to accompany my lonely female. Couldnt resist them, they looked so sweet and were on sale lol. Thinking I might just add a handful of platies and some tetras. Thanks
  9. Thanks Fishclubgirl, Gonna be dropping off my 3 angels at Pisces tomorrow and getting a trio of sailfins for now, might add 2 more in the next couple of weeks, is that overcrowding it?
  10. I am wanting to put some sailfin mollies into my 33 gallon tank, the only fish that are in the tank right now are corydoras, I was told that sailfin mollies need a lot of salt in their water? And that cories cant stand salt? Is that true? If possible to keep them, how many can I keep in a 33 gallon tank? Lets say I put in a trio, can I put in black mollies or swordtails with them? Thanks
  11. That was amazing! People like you are the reason I have always wanted a marine setup.
  12. Woke up to 2 dead and one survivor >.<
  13. ah so frustrated, dont even understand what took place overnight but woke up to the female dying, she was upside down, eyes were covered with something slimy, whole body looked like it had shrunk or something but gills were slowly moving. Couldnt find any fry either and the male was hiding behind the heater on the other side of the tank, when I started removing the female, I noticed that 3 fry were following the body as if she was still alive. Very discouraging but will be trying to keep the 3 fry alive as the female one of my favorite cichlids, offering the male up for sale, please PM me if interested.
  14. How many cories do you have? and how many eggs do you normally find? May sound stupid but is it possible that all of yours are females?
  15. Thanks medhatnoobee, I think I will probably separate them in a week or so as I will have to move some fish around first and thanks JLake and it is fun lol but having issues with not enough tank space or not enough heaters so cant wait till they grow up as I really wanna see the stages of their growth and find good homes for them.
