  1. AvianAquatics, there was a bag of either 4 or 6 juvenile lyretail swordtails that guzoo bought for $50, cant blame her though as they were pretty amazing.

And I noticed that there werent as much people or stuff there this year, but this is only my 2nd auction.

Really wish I had a car or at least a ride because I would have bought a couple of those tanks lol

I wonder if they will change the rules cuz of the decline in items?

  2. From harold I got 12 Corydoas punctatus and they are in my 33 Gallon tank now, and from the auction I got 3 Koi Angels which are also in the same 33 as the cories, and an unknown mbuna Hybrid and dozens of fry lol.

Also had to spend money on a 200W heater I really needed >.>

I tried to bid on some of the tiger and double dark angels but the price went extremely high, and same with the couple of lyretail swordtail that went for I think 50 bucks?

  3. No lol I think we might be talking about the same fish because I do remember you were the runner for something I bought and I only bought 2 things, this fish and 3 koi angels.

It was 2 bags tied together if that helps? I noticed it had a little yellow in it for the first time when I first picked up the bag at the auction, the yellow became darker, and more noticeable even in the bag when I was floating it in my tank.

Still can't understand why no one wanted this beautiful fish

  4. Some were free swimming last night but all are swimming a bit, not much as the parents are keeping them in one corner even though now they have the whole tank to themselves.

Managed to snap some shots of the fry though the quality is not very good.

    Enjoy

  5. Yeah I couldnt believe how many came out and they were bigger than I was expecting them to be But I managed to find the camera and take quick pictures!!! Quality and lighting is bad, and the tanks have leftover food that need to be siphoned so not really the best quality.

Any input is appreciated, do you think I could put it in the electric Yellow tank without them killing each other or breeding?

  6. Thanks everyone!

Dan I noticed the couple of fry in the same bag as her a couple of times when just wandering and looking at the tables in the back but I can't believe I didnt piece the two together as my friend kept on mentioning how the fish's mouth look odd, a bit puffy according to her >.> but no regrets as I really really like that fish and along with some of the bigger fry that were in the other tank I will add the female to the 26 gallon with the pair of honduran red points when I remove their fry from them. I am hoping that works as I do not want to put them in with my Electric Yellows which I really want to breed but they don't seem to be cooperating.

Thanks Werner and Wingin' it, and Jason I probably will be posting a picture sometime today just to get an opinion as to what the mix could have been. And no doubt I will have to find new homes for the majority of them and for sure I will let anyone interested know that they are hybrids.

I don't understand a lot about hybrids as I am sure they occur in the wild, if this is a stupid question I apologize but isnt it possible for species to be formed through hybridization? Like if these hybrids kept on breeding by themselves then they might be known as a species?

    Thanks again everyone!

  7. Who brought the hybrids to the auction?

I am curious as I think I should update you as to what happened, As some of you saw in the auction today there were 2 bags attached to each other, one with a 4" Fish and the other with around 10 half inch Fry and the only label was Hybrids.

I really liked the look of them even though I know a lot of ppl frown upon hybrids, and maybe that's why no one wanted them so I got them for a buck!

When I got home I was debating as to which tank to put them in as one has electric yellows and I am not sure if the two can cross breed or not and the other has a pair of honduran red points with wrigglers, in the end I ended up quickly setting up a 24 gallon for just them.

Good thing too as while I was releasing the female in the tank, she opened her mouth and out came around 30 fry!!!

If the hybrids belonged to you at one point please message here as I just want to know what they are a mixture of so I can decide suitable tank mates for the big female and Ill try to post a picture here tomorrow in hope that someone can guide me as to what they are as I really really like the look of them.

Still can't believe no one took the amazing fish, I now have around 45 of these amazing fish for a dollar!

    Lets hope the fry live!

  8. Thanks Jason and damn but no worries about the shrimp going bad as I am sure my baby white clouds won't mind a BBS snack but I have always wondered, what do you feed Brine shrimp?

And sweet but to be honest I havent conditioned them at all, in fact I was feeling guilty for the condition I thought they were in, they are in a bare tank, I think they are just stretching their fins since they have more room in the tank now.

    Thanks again!

  9. Hey well last night when I was feeding the fish I noticed that the Hondurans color was a bit darker and the female seemed bluer, not only that but the 5 other cichlids in with them were being chased out of a certain corner so I turned on the lights and noticed that they were guarding eggs.

The eggs seem to have been there for some time as you can see black dots in most of them, which might be the eyes but I don't know as the eggs are at the back of the tank. The 26 gallon tank was supposed to be a temporary tank so has no substrate, and no decoration.

I quickly made a DIY Brine shrimp hatchery and put in some BS eggs to hatch this morning, really hope that they hatch before the babies starve or something.

The main question I had was that I always thought that Hondurans were supposed to be different from Convicts as they only had 60-80 eggs in contrast to Convicts that had around 200, but these have somewhere between 150-200 eggs. Is there a chance that these could be a mix between the two?

Also how long before the fry hatch? How long do they start wrigglers and how long before they are free swimmers? Also do I only feed them when they are free swimming or right after they hatch?

    Thanks

Here is an old picture of them and then a very bad quality one where you can make out the eggs.

  10. Lol I have always had tanks in my room, so I don't mind it, its also not noticeable in my room as my room is the coldest room in the house, my basement on the other hand is where my other 33 gallon and 26 gallon are along with my rabbit.

That room can get really humid I leave a window open in the summer and sometimes they give me real evaporation problems.
