  1. Thrilled to report that a few days later he is swimming around like normal, eating, and his eye is recovering. He looks a little "bruised" still on his body but its getting better too. Thanks AA!
  2. I wish I knew I'm glad I didn't just shrug off the fact I didn't see him at feeding time in the morning. I think he swam into it, and couldn't get back out as it's kinda small.. and he isn't. He's swimming around such but not eating yet. Hopefully a nights rest will do him good and he will recover.
  3. thanks pagani. i went and got a screen cover and separated him, and did a water change. I hope he pulls thru
  4. I was feeding my cichlids this morning when I noticed my dominant blue was missing. I looked everywhere, and, on a hunch moved a smaller ornament. To my horror he was trapped underneath it, and looks really beat up. Is he going to make it or should I end his suffering? My heart is broken.. I raised from such a small size to what he is now and it kills me to see him like this He's still breathing and moves slightly time to time, but not really moving much. The other fish are leaving him alone for the time being (4 other cichlids) edit: he seems to be moving around a little now. not just laying there.
  5. so i tried a darker natural substrate, and, no difference. i think the camouflage thing is over blown, and im going back to white because i like how it looks better
  6. I was at Pisces, and the guy said that my white gravel was going to make my african cichlids change color to match the rocks and lose color. Any truth in this or is he trying to sell me more rock
  7. thanks for your help Jorg, im going to return him and check out big als
  8. do you think they stuck me with a female or is it just the stress that has him so silver?
  9. O Ventralis? Whats the o stand for :P
  10. So the guy at pisces sold me a cobalt blue and a "ventralis" cichlid. The ventrallis he showed me that was older looked really beautiful so I was happy to pay the 26 bucks... but they both look like cobalts to me... help please Fish B appears to be on the left and has 3 pics of it, and Fish A has 2 on the right.. thanks in advance for the help
  11. im not really unsure, im just wondering if im worrying about nothing..
  12. Is my tank getting enough support? it kinda hangs off the edges slightly on each side..
  13. I did that.. but it still hums and makes a lot of noise. more than i want, anyways. this things only 5 feet from my bed
  14. is that something i could get at Pisces in Calgary? its a fairly large fish/pet shop. and how does a canister work?
  15. I have an aquaclear filter and the thing hums so much. It's in my room.. and I really want to keep it as silent as possible to get better sleep. Can anyone make some suggestions as the most silent/quiet 33 gallon filters that are around? Thanks!
  16. Some background leading up to the deaths I have 6 small cichlids in a 33 gallon tank. The water was tested 1 week ago and the nitrate, ammonia and nitrates were good. then we had new carpeting installed.. so for 12 hours, the fish were placed in a large bucket with their own water with no heat or filtering. the water cooled quite considerably. they were put back in the tank 12 hours later and the water slowly warmed up back to normal since that. since then, all but 1 of the cichlids have died over a 4 day span. Can this be explained purely by the shock of what they went thru? Or should I be looking at the cheap gravel that seems to be dusty even after I rinsed it before putting it in my tank. I have 1 cichlid left and 2 plecos... help ..
  17. Just used ich guard to clear up some ich problems I had. the damn thing stained by aquarium glue green.. will it go away? does it matter besides the ugly green color?
  18. OK 1st the question. In a 33 gallon tank, since I only want to have 6 or so cichlids, can I just skip pairing them up, and have 6 different types? Will it make them that much less happier or is it not a biggy? and now, who can identify this cichlid!
  19. Im just curious how rare it is to get several generations over 10 years to breed without trying to get them to breed. is this a fairly flukey circumstance or was it bound to happen? I have quite a mix of african cichlids, yellows, some blue dudes, etc.. lol i totally forgot their names years ago. Anyways the yellows from around 6 years ago started having kids, the parents have died now but their young are now grown up and in charge of the tank. its quite cool
  20. 90 gallon fresh water, moving to a smaller fresh water. i hope to squeeze a couple of african cichlids but i dont know how small a tank i can get away with doing that in. i was thinking a 30 gallon is max ill go.. gotta wonder if thats enough for a cichlid or if i should just go with a zebra danio lol
