  1. I had a terrible snail problem in August, couldn't keep up by picking them, or trapping them in containers that had pellets. I bought 2 yoyo loaches and in 2 weeks, no more snails. I move the yoyo's around to wherever they are needed to get the job done. Had them in with the guppies for awhile, and didn't notice any fry missing.
  2. Well, I certainly learned a few things today. Thanks all!
  3. Thanks Lana, I will purchase all the necessaries when I purchase the vac. Just wanted to make sure I didn't cause any fish to get sick.
  4. Just wondering.........when you use a gravel vac, when do you condition the water? I've always sat my water for a week, so have not used a conditioner before. Water changes and gravel cleaning are starting to take up so much time, that I am thinking of buying a gravel vac, but want to be sure about how to condition the water that goes in right from the tap. Thanks for any suggestions.
  5. I'm new at this and hope this one posts. I have picked up up driftwood along the river in Bragg Creek, and along lakes when I travel. I boil the wood in a huge canning pot, dump out the water and do it again a few times. Then I soak it in water, changing the water daily until it stops leaching - that takes about a week. One of the pieces I found fit my 70gal end to end and I ended up cutting it it half.

    Hi there

Was delighted when I came across this forum. Been keeping fish for 2 years now and continue to be fascinated and entertained by their many habbits. Started with a 30 gal of guppies, moved on to another 30 gal with swordtails, graduated to a 50 with tetras and a clown pleco. Tried a 70 gal with koi, but felt bad when they started to get big and gave them to a friend with a pond. The 70 gal is now a community tank with 3 diamond tetras, 2 pepper corries, 3 blue gourame, 4 ghost shrimp, 6 danios. Also have a 40gal with 3 new bronze corys and 3 new pepper corries. I'm looking forward to reading everyon's posts.
