Sorry for the late reply as I had a very busy weekend. I'm not sure on the sexes yet as I don't pull them out of the tank until they are eating and stable. I will check in the next day or two.

I usually like to make sure they are 6-8 weeks before getting rid of them. I only have the 4 at the moment as I sold the other 3 on Tuesday from the last batch. I have been cutting back on feed as in the last three years the litter have been anywhere from 8 to 13 pups from each female. By cutting back on the food I get smaller litters which is good for me as I'm so busy right now.

Hey no I am open to travel, I am coming into both Calgary / Edmonton the 22nd / 23rd this month. How many do you have? Prices? Males / females? Sizes? Oh and if we can find a way to get pictures.
I haven't sexed the last batch which were born Tuesday April 5th. I just sold the other two females and one male that were ready to go. I'm not sure if these guys would be ready by the 22nd/23rd as I like to see them start to eat pellets before I sell them off. I usually sell them for $100 each

Hi, I regularly have motoro pups but I see you are in Saskatchewan so you probably want someone located in close to your area as I am in Edmonton, Alberta

He out grew my 8 by 3 tank. Now he is in a 12 by 5.

Hey what lfs did you find him at if you don't mind me asking?
I got him from big Als in Edmonton. Last time they had them in they were $80 for a 6"
-
Looking good!

I got him at a local LFS and he was about 12-14 inches at the time. They got another in about 6 months ago that was maybe 6" but I thought one was enough. lol
I'm sure he would be fine but I have breeding rays in there that need to eat everyday and the little automatic feeder I had was not enough because he just sucks in the food hence the name "Hoover"
I will try to get more picture with my better camera as soon as I can.

Hmm I thought I replied to this yesterday but now I don't see my post...
Ok we'll in short. Sand is good but watch the depth with smaller rays. You can get ammonia build (hot spots) up in the sand that will burn your rays. This doesn't happen with larger rays as the move the sand around all the time. In my two grow out tanks I have no substrate but I have a couple of inches in my 450 gallon.

The technical answer is yes. Right now I have a Leo with a retic. However the Leo won't be staying there long as the tank is to small for the Leo but fine for the retic and the leo is small right now. My question to you is what is the square footage of the bottom of your tank? Remember that a Leo will get much larger than a retic and therefore you will need quite a large tank. The gallon size it not as important as how much "floor" space there is. A normal 100 gallon tank is to small for a Leo because he/she will barely be able to turn around in a 18" wide tank. There are other considerations but lets start there.

.The boy is mature, and ready to make babies at 8.5 inches.
Size is absolutely the biggest key to being mature for females and that depends on what you are feeding. However males isn't as much about size as it is their claspers and their shape/form. Males have a distinct body change that signifies their maturity but females lack this. My big female has pups that are 4-5" in diameter and are 6-7" by the time thier are about 60 days old. So at 7.5" I think you have some time before your female is ready. Usually about 12" in diameter is the norm however I have heard of cases where the female has been as small as 10". You will know when your female is mature if you have a mature male because he will star biting the female's outer disc etc (given proper water conditions) which are signs of breeding.

im feeding half a shrimp each in the morning and half each at night
Variety is the 2nd best key to heathly rays. You would be better off to be feeding other foods as well (dew worms, hikiari massivore pellets, smelts, tilapia, etc). With a mono diet your rays will take a long time to become mature and they will never be as healthy as they could be.

how long till my stingrays start breeding
there five inch right know
At least a year and a half but most likely two years depending on what you are feeding.

Sprouse Fire said it was about $17 for a hydro test. Refill will be added on top of that.
Through who, do you know? Sounds like a great deal.
-
I haven't had to do my CO2 tank but my scuba tanks usually cost about $40 for a hydro.

Where they your old retics that bred? or your new 3?
My old Retics.

Congrats on the rectics, not that common to see then breed so hopefully people can pick up some pointers on these rays from you.
Thank for that. Coming from you that is a great compliment!!
How is the big tank doing? I always dream of doing a big tank. When I look at my 400 gallon and then think of you tank it seems so “small” and of course I dream of having all your rays!

I have a number of rays and I have had a number of pups. I don't use any carbon in my filters at all. LOTS of water changes and you rays will be very happy. Don't play with water chemistry (i.e. pH). What ever comes out of the tap will be good for pH. Just watch pH/ammonia/nitrate/nitrite levels as rays can change these levels in a tank real fast if you aren’t doing a lot of water changes. If ammonia levels spike (and they will with new rays) do lots of water changes as this will work better than ammonia/carbon filters.

Where did you trade motoros for a leo? thats awesome!!
A local LFS made the trade. I guess they can sell motoro pups easier than a Leo. And the trade was, in my opinion, better for me even if you look at the retail for pups compared to a Leo.

Thanks. Babies are doing well. I was very excited to get these. I have had 21 motoros born in the last 12 months but these are the coolest!

I told myself that I wasn't going to get anymore Motoros! But then I saw this female and I couldn't stop myself. Very different colorings on this one. Anybody see this type of patterning before?
I have had her about 2 months now and she keeps getting better looking. She's about 12"-14" in diameter now.

cool thats alot of pups, how big is mum?
I haven't measured her in a long time. Tank is 36" high and she cover more than half when on the side of the glass. Maybe 22" or more in diameter. I'll measure tomorrow and let you know more exact.

3 males and 1 female. With pups I always go with bare bottom as they don't move the sand around that much and you can get hot spots of ammonia. Adults move the sand around lots so not a big risk then.
They are all eating really well so if all goes well the could go then.
