  1. Ok, I am thinking i won't be able to do anything for her at this point and it was out of the blue. One of my female Bettas here is not moving around much and she is nose on the ground tail up. She looks completely washed out almost no color left, she was fine yesterday and her tank mate is fine. The spot where her eggs comes out is looking raw and red. Any thoughts and help would be appreciated, Should I put her in a smaller bowl with water only deep enough to cover her body? Can she at least reach the surface to breath that way? I added melafix to the water already but not sure what else I can do.
  2. Well, fish is still doing good, I might even be able to still get a batch of little ones from him yet. On the other note...we found the toad and no she wasn't in the tank anymore, she didn't make it. We found her only because our ferret baby sniffed her out. Otherwise we probably wouldn't have found her until we moved. We had moved all the furniture and took all the drawers out of the dresser and everything. I was tempted to buy another one and not tell the kids but didn't forwarn my husband and he slipped up...my gosh the waterworks we had going on. (I am almost as bad though...lol) Well I guess some of it turned out alright.
  3. I went to feed my boys last night and...HOLY COW did I get a scare. Ok so earlier in the evening I heard a craking noise and gave the kids heck for going into the kitchen, well no one had so I assumed it was the birds or something... When I went to feed my boys I noticed an odd thing, the tank was dry...I looked closer and here was my red all curled up in the corner and dried out...my tank had split down the side and lost all the water, I almost cried that my eautiful little boy died...when I picked up the tank some of the water in amongst the rocks shifted to the corner he was in so I thought well maybe...I added a little more water to that corner and watched...HE MOVED...Oh thank you thank you to whoever made them able to survive the oddest conditions...so in the end he was Saved...but it was the last fright I needed last night I had some issues with the poor ferrets I adopted recently from a bad situation, the little one kept escaping so I spent most of the evening fixing the problem and then to top off my night one of my fire belly toads is just gone...I looked everywhere in the tank and everything is covered there is only the tiny gap where the filter pumps the water in my cover is custom cut to fit around it right up against the sides of the filter, and yes I moved some of their rocks and sand around to see if she buried herself. Anyways thanks for listening to my woes.
  4. Thanks, I will see if they will return it, I had it for 2 weeks before I installed it so they might not accept it back even though it has only been running for a couple days. Thanks all. I also have to say I adore my toads, I never thought I would be that taken with them.
  5. The filter is an Aquaclear one. in a 33 gallon I only have about 4-6 inches of water in the bottom. Fire belly toads so a half water half land type set up, more like 1/3 land though. The joints are out of the water, so maye I will try siliconing it but I think I might wait until I have to turn it off for something, it is running just aout where I would probably set it anyways, or would it burn out if it has to work to hard to maintain just the bare minimum. In the end it was almost 2 hours to get running, just fiddling and shifting things(I am not normally a patient person but once I started stripping their temp home I needed to and wanted to get it done) I am not sure the lenth on the intake hose but at least 10 inches out of water, the water only goes up past the tip about an inch(the intake part is fairly long and pointed so it almost touches the bottom and I didn't want the water to much deeper) it might even be a little longer, it is an average shape 33 gallon. Thanks.
  6. Ok, I have used it for a few days it was working ok, I switched it to a taller sided tank and had to lengthen the intake tube but now it isn't working much at all. It took me 1 1/2 hours to get it to trickle but there is an airbubble in the top of the intake tube that doesn't want to move and I would hate to think on how to get it going again if it stops for some reason, I am very frustrated. Is it just because it isn't a strong enough pump for the length of my tube? It is a 33 gallon tank with about 4-6 inches of water and the filter is the 30-50 one. It is mostly running now, but not very strong and on it's strongest setting. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated by a very frustrated lady. Thank You
  7. I have mine in a 30 gallon with half land and half water about 6" deep. Mine will be in my 33 gallon, I am only waiting because I had bettas in it I was trying to spawn. I am thinking I will probably move them over this weekend. I will have sand and gravel half land half water ,with a heater and a filter but I want to incorperate a couple small caves to so we will see what I end up doing, I also have some granite pieces I built I might use some of them to keep my water and land seperat and prevent the gravel from just sliding down. I also want some live plants in the water as well and I seen a pretty bamboo at the store and like how it was half water half out of water. And where the filter pours the water back in I want a waterfal but have to come up with a plan for splash gaurding it. When my battery for my camera is charged I will post a picture of what their temporary home looks like. Athena
  8. The pleco is just a plain old grow huge type pleco. So I suppose I will be re-homing him, The people I got him from are moving out of province and couldn't take their fish with them, so I adopted them rather than having them shipped off to the pet store. The Ghost shrimp are no longer in the tank, they have their own tank(all 2 of them) The clown loaches are very pretty so I would keep them over having the shrimp in the larger tank, I was planning on putting them back in the main tank but they are fine where they are. The 2 ghost fish I have are Ghost catfish one is just little only about an inch(just bought last week) and the other is going on 5 years and is about 3-4 inches. Thank you I'm off to see my new froggys now(well technically they are fire belly toads but...)I adopted them as well as the fish above and their set up is questionable(rubbermaid type container with a cut out lid, light and filter) but temporary until I have a tank ready for them.
  9. Well I become slightly doubtful but I might get one of my pairs here to spawn after all. My one male and female are both hovering under the nest, he's busy building it(my goodness it is getting huge, I used 16 ounce cups and it fills the cup as well as spreads out on both sides) and she is swimming back and forth beside him pausing to let her head droop and float her tail up and then carrying on, like shes saying it's beautiful now get a move on...lol She was pretty aggressive though I was a little concerned she is mostly fine barely even frazzled fins and his tail(his beautiful tail) is almost completely destroyed. Cross your fingers for us. The bubbles are coming on thick and strong now, and I am very thankful for the help I have received on here because my males are very stubborn(I suppose thats a male thing but sheesh)
  10. Well, I adopted some fish today, It's nice to see my tank so busy again. I received 2 clown loaches and a red tailed shark, so I am curious if anyone has and tips or quirks I should know about them. The shark is about 3-4 years old(most of them are around that, the corydoras and one of the tetras is 6) They have all been kept together with no problems for the last few years and I am only adding my own danios, gold barbs and 2 ghost fish to the mix that weren't already there. My main concern is my ghost shrimp will he eat them?(I already lost $30 worth of Ghost shrimp to the angel fish who leaves tomorrow) I also adopted a pleco with this mix he is about 5 inches, we re-homed our other one because he was tearing up all my plants, but the previous owner said this one was fine with their live plants so is that a normal issue with plecos? Oh it is nice to see my tank full of life, it was pretty slow due to lots of space and very few fish. I will most likely move all the live bearers to a different tank. Just so it isn't to much overloaded.
  11. They both have nests and are together, I let the girls loose yesterday. I will try to stop by either today or tomorrow to drop that other stuff off.
  12. Well no one seems interested in the leaves except to sleep on. my one male pulled the tip down into the water and just before bed he was sleeping on it. I did notice a bit of bubbles along the sides, we'll see if someone decides to actually build a nest. Thanks for all the input and help, we'll give it a little while and see how things go. I've been keeping a journal, my memory is so bad so this keeps my timing straight. I suppose thats a little odd...lol...
  13. I made a photo album and tried to upload a picture to it. Well it came up with an error message that told me I had already used my allotted disk space. well I am pretty sure seeing as I haven't posted any pictures yet that this can't be right. Is there something I am doing wrong? Thank You
  14. Eating one or two bites then he doesn't seem interested anymore, not even the treats interest him and no bubbles from him yet. One pair is together with a nest but as of about 10 minutes ago he's done nothing but chasing her around so far, they went together yesterday, if nothing by tonight I will take the male out.
