Got it done and works fine. I went to Home Depot and with either 3 or 4 fittings, and $5, it's connected. I have to use a flared fitting into the fluval. I'll take a picture tonight if my wife hasn't had the baby yet. So if you've got the fluval connector, you can convert it to paintball for about $30 plus the cost of the hoses.

God I'm such an idiot... I have a regulator. The fluval kit I bought came with one, but it won't fit on the paintball tank. So.....all I have to do is buy a fitting to connect the two like so. Then I'll throw a needle valve in before the tank to be able to fine tune it even more.

Just called and asked, neither one of them are adjustable. God this is a PITA

So your saying go with the first setup, not the one with the regulator? The one with the regulator has a barb fitting right after the regulator, no compression fittings.

I was trying to do this cheap since my Co2 just ran out and I'm expecting a child any time between right no wand next Thursday. It's not in the budget right now to spend that much.

Does anyone know what pressure I'm looking at with this? I want to put a purge valve in, but I need to know what one to buy. The highest I've found so far is about 120 PSI. Anyone think that will be ok?

ok so I've tossed away all the supplies I had prior and have gone with a different method. Here's the pics. The old hose had a burst pressure of around 300 PSI, the new hose is around 700 PSI. I've added a regulator ($20 at Princess auto, God I LOVE that store), and I'll be adding a needle valve somewhere before the tank. I've got the hose attached to a brass barb without a clamp so that if the needle valve fails or gets blocked, it SHOULD pop the hose off the barb rather than blow the hose.

Thanks for the advice ubroke, I hadn't seen that. I'll be looking at getting a regulator before I use it.

So I was looking around today at some Co2 injectors. I can't believe how much they cost. Ideally, I was wanting on that would connect to a paintball tank, but the only one I was able to find locally was $200. I currently have a Fluval pressurized kit and for now have just made something like that. I'll be adding a gauge and such later on if I need to. I figured there's got to be a cheaper way to go than to buy the $200 kit though. Here's my results... Tube to MIP elbow with Insert - $3.99 Compression needle valve - $5.19 1/4 X 20' Clear vinyl tubing - $5.19 Connector for paintball tank - $20.00 (From Prevost Paintball in Edmonton Alberta) Leatherman tool - $40 (Ok, I didn't really NEED this, but I WANTED it) The final product... Total cost for actual needed supplies - $34.37 Now I know there is no solenoid on here, I will be looking into adding one as well. Basically, I'm just re-creating the Fluval system to use a paintball tank instead of a $25 Co2 cartridge.

I've got 4 convicts in a 60 gallon tank. To make this easy, I'll go with shade and sex. I'm only concerned about 3 of them, so ignore the fourth. We have... Light grey female Light grey male (younger/smaller) dark grey male (older/bigger) Light grey male and light frey female have already spawned once. The fry hatched out and both parents took care of them. Now, dark grey male is showing light grey female attention. Light grey female mainly stays with light grey male, but sometimes swims over to the other side of the tank with dark grey male and looks like she's trying to spawn with him. Question is, Are convicts not monogamous? If I were to separate a pair, should I go with the light grey pair, or the light grey female and the dark grey male? I'm hoping that this made sense.

So I have an update.... The babies have hatched, free swimming. Moved some of them into a breeding net and left some for mommy and daddy to care for. Will have to see how it goes.

Oh yeah,nothing like watching your kids looking at baby fish. There's a bit of excitement there that most of us have lost as adults. It's funny you mention that. Having kids in the 3-5 age range, It reminds me that they see the whole world from a different angle than we do. I handed my 3 year old a camera on several occasions and we went for walks for both of us to take pictures that intrigued us. I was shocked at some of the pictures she took. Makes you think...people are in such a rush nowadays that they don't stop to look at what's an everyday item around them and the beauty seen in it from a child. Here's some examples...

Yes they are convicts. I've bred them before and I know it's not hard...usually. I picked these up so my daughter had something nice to look at and that we could fit a few of them in without spending a small fortune. I'm actually partial to the convicts as they breed so easily and my daughter enjoys seeing the babies.

Was checking out my tank today and guess what I see? Can't wait to get little swimmers. As soon as I can, I'll be moving them into a breeding net.

I will be as soon as I can get the spare funds. Work has been slow lately. I've also got a few in a tub trying out the immersed method. If that works well for me, I'm probably going to pull the few out of the tank and immerse them as well. Seems to be working pretty well so far.

Just got my Co2 set up so hoping to have the plants take off and fill the tank. Still trying to think of something to add to the tank such as rocks to finish it off.

It's a 60 gallon tank with a single 48" aquaglo bulb.

Ok so everything is in the tank, hooked up to the powerhead and going well. How much faster should I expect the plants to grow? I've started out with a couple of potted plants from PJ's and I'm attempting to get a fully planted tank. Any idea how long this is gonna take roughly?

Holy crap, within 5 minutes of me putting it in the tank, it's bubbling. I should be good now, just have to wait and make sure that the mixture doesn't creep up into the tank.

So... Yeast was good Mixture was creating Co2 when I opened it Wasn't leaking So what I've done was double the mixture minus the water, and wrapped the screw on lid in teflon tape just to be sure. The hose is in the tank right now and I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm hoping the mixture just wasn't strong enough to push the Co2 up into the tank.
