  1. The rest of the fish are doing fine. I think my lil'yellow is lonely, he can't seem to find his friend. Maybe he'll start becoming friends with my new lil'bristle nosed pleco ( in a good way ). Do you mean Seachem Stability? I've seen the bottle around but I've never used it. Let's see: It is safe to use during tank cycling and is ideal for treating unexpected emergency situations. AmGuardâ„¢ reacts with free ammonia within minutes and does not alter pH. So this is something to keep on-hand in these type of emergency's or it can replace prime altogether? No I don't, I use-too many years ago when I was that kind of person who had skeletons jumping out of treasure chests... What would the air stone have done anyways that my canister couldn't?
  2. Thank you very much for you input Roy, much appreciated. I've never had a problem like this since the tank was setup over a year ago. I'll have to be more careful.
  3. Almost a year now. I got him as a little yellow guy and he grew into a big bulky yellow guy with a white belly. He will be sadly missed.
  4. I'm still keeping on eye on both-tanks. I decided not to do a water change on the 10 gallon. I think in my panic I let my imagination run a little wild. The lone occupant of the 10 gallon is just fine.
  5. Thanks Tyler. I thought I could save him on the first change and he 'seemed' MUCH better. Then almost an hour later his behavior was irregular and he suddenly died.
  6. Its the 20 gallon that was dosed heavily... Every time I change the water (depending on the size of the tank) I use about 1/4 a cap or more of prime. This time when I changed the water the tank was 85% empty so I used a little more than what I normally use. Every time I use a product that goes into the water, I re-read the the directions. Every-time. Also, there are no warnings concerning over-dosing on the bottle. *** UPDATE *** The rest of my friends are doing fine. They all seemed to have settled down now. I'm still baffled as to why this happened.
  7. The sick electric yellow started to thrash around the tank, bumping into the glass and rocks, then died. I'm really upset now. I just flushed another 50% of the water. Now I need to start doing a change on the 10 gallon because he is starting to show symptoms.
  8. Now they are all gasping at the surface...
  9. On Friday I did a large water-change and setup another tank ( 10 gallon ). After doing so, I dosed it heavily with some Prime and let it sit for a day then added a single cichlid. The fish in the 10 and 20 seemed fine, that is until today. The cichlid in the 10 gallon is near the surface of the water, almost gasping like. The filter is functioning correctly, it is a filter used for 20-30 gallon tank. I don't think he is oxygen starved? The larger Electric Yellow in the 20 gallon is upright now (after an emergency water change ) but is hiding under his rock. There seems to be nothing effecting his buddy, he is showing no signs of distress. I noticed as I was draining the water in the 20 that along the glass, above the water, there was a 'milky-bubble-like' film. Is this due to the large amount of prime? My test kit is sort of useless, as it is still indicates NH and NO because of the large dose of prime. But not as much as yesterday. I just took another look at at my sick yellow, he's out from under his rock and seem to be swimming normally. Think I may do a change for the 10 as well.
  10. ... they only had a little kit and the biggest size was 3/4". To top it off, they 'accidentally' chromed over the diamond cutting particles rendering them useless! Anyone care to share where I might find a various sized kit where I don't have to spend an arm-n-leg?
  11. Yes it was something like that. Reason I asked was because I really like his colors wondering if this will cause them to dull.
  12. Alright I have an empty 10gallon thanks to darkstar. Because my 100 gallon is not up and running (yet) and I don't want to give anymore of my fish away I decided to isolate the dominant male (bully). My more docile yellow labs are taking a trashing from this guy. I was watching them one day and he attacked one of the two by latching on his face (with his mouth obviously) and swimming in circles! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! So for the well-being of my yellow labs big brownie the bully needs a time-out. Now, that being said. Will this have a negative impact on him?

    Hello

Anyone else find it funny that Cpt. Morgan join AA?
  14. Never seen this thread before. Interesting, very cool.
  15. That's it! I'm going! I don't care if I don't have a snowmobile, auger, any tackle, or a license! I miss it ice-fishing...
  16. I think I know what you mean. I was looking at pictures of the wild specimens and I was comparing them to the captive ones, The coloration/pattern of the wild one where more pleasing to the eye.
  17. So the selling point of a species being sold as, "wild" is supposed to appeal to breeders?
  18. I figured I'd post this question here on the forums as I don't have have the luxury of time needed to actually research this. Why are wild Mbuna (or any fish for that matter) so sought after? I'm only asking now because recently I passed on an offer to buy some wild Labeotropheus trewavasae.
  19. Ugh, I wanted to do some work this weekend but I'm in the middle of my midterm exams. I'm actually @ NAIT studying ATM (seems like how I spend all my weekends). Reading week (FEB 16), I PROMISE this stand is going to be finished! And I'll either have started or finished the lid.
  20. Sorry dark. Like you, I've been busy with the school junk. Those plants look healthy. Let me know if you want some white clouds. I have 3 in a 10 gallon which I haven't had the time to do anything with. I figure I'm going to take the tank down (moving into new apartment), so I need to find them a new home. Your in Edmonton right? Send me a PM if you can take the white clouds I'll check back later today and tomorrow. Cheers!
  21. Looks great, can't wait to see the full tank shot. I've always admired planted tanks with Hemianthus callitrichoides.
  22. Hello, Project is on hold for a little while... I'm just swamped with with work right now. I'll see if my friend can give me a lift this coming weekend so I can pick-up the rest of the materials.
