  1. Thanks! We wondered if we may have a mix..... They seem to be doing well together... We are staring up an African tank and can always move him if needed. I will try and get a better picture of the other one but he moves so fast it's hard to get a good shot.
  2. We just picked up a few new fish last weekend and we would love to know what two of them are. They were hanging out in the tanks with the other S/A cichlids and are doing great with ours but we have no idea what kind they are. Any help would be great! The one is harder to see than the other in the pictures but has mustard type yellow fins on a darker body. The other has a pointier head with a dominant stripe. We came across a picture that looked a lot like the striped one and thought it may be him (Dimidiochromis Dimidiatus??) and I have attached the picture we found at the bottom. I tried to play with the contrast of the dark fish with the yellow fins. I hope that helps a bit. In the meantime I will try and get another.
  3. We moved out here from Ontario and love it!!
  4. We have a beautiful 55gal tank of S/A cichlids, I have no idea the breeds, I just love the group we have  I feed brine shrimp and blood worms on top of the basic diet but wanted to know if there were any good feeder fish I should be feeding them as well. Any advice would be great! I also wanted to add that we had our "starter" fish in our tank for ages until just recently when we added new fish so I thought that a feeder may be a good idea if they're looking to eat more then just what I'm feeding them.
  5. I'm new to this site and would love to say hello to everyone! I'm also new to Alberta and just wanted to say that it's great to find a site such as this which is local. I'm still considered a newbie in the fish world even though I've had a lot experience over the years and it's great to find a site like this to get the information and advice I need!
  6. Where are the best places to buy cichlids here in Calgary (or freshwater fish in general)? We're relatively new to Calgary and are still looking for the good spots to go. We have a few tanks on the go but our main one at the moment is a nice mix of S/A cichlids. We have only been to the "petshops" so far because that's all we know about in the area but I haven't like the selections they have to offer. I'm not looking to spend too much on the fish or anything rare but I would love to find a place that has a good and healthy variety to choose from. Preferably around the north end but we are willing to travel to the right place. We are also going to start a tank with African cichlids within the next couple of months and we would love to start right. Which brings me to my next question... I have had cichlids (African's to be specific) in the past and they did very well with a few in a smaller tank (25g) and they thrived for years with me until I had to move. We are shopping around for another larger tank like the one we have for our S/A cichlids (or larger, we currently have them in a 55gal) and wanted to know if we could start with a few young ones in the smaller tank and then move them and add more in time or should we just wait until we find our larger tank? Last but not least, where is a good place to shop for supplies?
