  1. so i recently adopted a couple jack dempsey's and a electric yellow cichlid (i believe is what he is called) who were all abandoned and ill-kept.. unfortunately the only tank i had to set up for them was a 15 gallon. and sadly one of the jack dempsey's didn't make it but the time they spent together they were never far from each other.. now the remaining one is extremely close with the yellow cichlid and she seems to keep to herself in a certain bottom corner and doesn't move too much from it.. is normal? i find that if the pleco or the red devil fry who also share the tank get too close they both with show a lot of aggression towards them.
  2. Manning eh? I've been there once.. I feel sorry for you lol You lived in Grimshaw and only been here once? Your lucky  haha yeah.. worked too much while i was up there lol i really wanted to do a trip last October to Yellowknife for the northern lights, but never made it =( so hopefully this year =)
  3. if i had your tanks and your fish i'd move the goldie to the 5 gallon, as the current tank (2.3 gal) with tankmates is much too small and the bioload is way too high for that size tank. maybe a betta for the other empty 2.3? oh i know i felt bad for him, i was just waiting for the 5 gallon to cycle for a day, but he seems much happier now in his new bigger home =)
  4. Manning eh? I've been there once.. I feel sorry for you lol
  5. Mine are very small (at least until i can get a bigger place for more and bigger tanks haha) i've got an empty 2.3 gallon, a 5 gallon that i just picked up today and another 2.3 gallon that has a goldfish and a dwarf frog and 3 white clouds that i felt sorry for when i bought them as feeders for my turtles lol, but i'm going to a pet store today to pick up some fish, so hopefully i can control myself and remember how small my tanks are haha
  6. So I have moved from Grimshaw back to Edmonton, and just finished setting up my own second tank.. My roommates seem to think I'm a little nuts-o with how excited I am so I decided to share my excitement with other fishaholics
  7. well about a week after laying their first batch, the pair ate the eggs on us they have now laid their second batch.. should i take them out this time? and if so how long after? or should i just let them be and hope they allow them to hatch this time?
  8. oh ok cool.. yeah she been the most aggressive so far, that's how i noticed the eggs was when i was going to feed them she came right up to the top about an inch from the surface and if i move even an inch she's right there following me.. it's quite funny though because we have a tetra tank right next too them and on the side facing them she's built up a wall with the rocks almost to the top now as if to shut out the other tank
  9. so far the only aggression i've seen has been her towards him
  10. Kodman says he's pretty sure when he talked to the guy he told were Flowerhorn x Red Devils
  11. if they are red devils would that explain why he's not showing the agression towards her that everyone's warning me about? because this morning they still seem fine.
  12. wow thanks.. we're still pretty new to everything so that'll help a lot.. for the moment they seem to be ok, he's still fertilizing the eggs and isn't paying much attention to her but i'll be sure to keep a close eye on them for the next day as to when they'll need to be separated.
  13. these are the parents.. when i got them from the guy i didn't think they were Flowerhorns but he assured me they were.. the female's been ok she's the bigger one in the pictures.. they laid quite a few eggs.. does anyone know if i should just leave them where the parents have them or should i seperate them into a holder?
  14. We recently aquired a few flowerhorns including a breeding pair and I noticed them in time to see the male fertilizing the eggs and it was pretty cool. (Sorry pictures aren't the greatest were taken on my phone :P)
  15. Yea we are trying to invest in some larger tanks but the last few deals we've found we've been bailed on.. not sure what kind they are actually =S they've got very long whiskers and are very active
