  1. Hi There Just my two cents... I have had an ongoing battle with Tropheus now for the last few months. They are a fantastic and fascinating fish to keep...just BE PREPARED. They are really really picky. Your tank needs to be absolutely pristine, cycled, and over filteration never hurts. There are going to be lots of people out there that will tell you a million different things about what to feed, temperature, water changes, filteration...etc...but you really have to just watch the fish. There are many a tell tale sign as to something being off in the aquarium. As long as you are dedicated to the fish and keep a close eye on water quality, they are a GREAT asset to any aquarium. Theses are a few things that I found to be helpful : Keep jungle buddies parasite killer on hand, lots of water changes, stick to a schedule, and be veryt careful to watch your fish:D Best of luck, please feel free to message as I have struggled almost every hardship there is to be when it comes to these guys .
  2. I am getting the fish from a breeder in Calgary. I have some Kirizas already as well. I will have a colony of around 40, give or take a few tank mates. SUPER EXCITED !!
  3. Hey all! I posted these in the picture forum as well but thought since this tanks' destiny was for a colony of tropheus I would post here as well! This is a 180 gallon, getting ready to hold Kiriza fry. Once they start getting a little larger I will be removing some of the wood and rock to make a little more room, but in the mean time I am going to give them lots of places to run/hide/chase and play! Enjoy!
  4. This is my 180 gallon. It is getting ready for a colony of tropheus fry. Lots of nooks and crannies to hide in, lots of distractions so line of sight isnt a big issue! Once the fish get a little larger I will be removing some of the wood and rock to make a little more room!
  5. WELCOME BACK!!! UPDATE: I have actually shifted gears once again and purchased a 180 gallon acryllic setup. Will have it up and running by the middle of may and have aquired a lovely group of Tropheus sp. black Kiriza! I will be posting pictures soon. Once the 180 is up and running i will have a colony of around 50 little guys which i will eventually thin out to around 40 or so! This is really exciting...everyone of them is doing great! What are some possible tank mates?
  6. Any tropheus experts out there... I am thinking of changing plans for my tanks and switching to a tropheus habitat. I am wondering what fish would be a good mix for tropheus morii...what else could i put inside? It is a 135 gallon. Thanks all...
  7. I dont really think that breeding is going to be my main goal. I have done a fair amount of research and am fully aware of the responsibilities of an african cichild enthusiast. I would never want to harm all the hard work that people have done brining fish here to have them cross and then promote that... no worries!! I am thinking that the chance of crossing, albeit always being a possibility is there..., the chance should be fairly low...and easily recognizable if it does happen.
  8. with so many choices...lol...i couldnt keep myself just to one lake...but am still not completely decided yet...
  9. Well... My project is nearing completion, my first cichlid tank, and I will be posting pictures soon. Thanks to all those out there that have helped me along so far! I am now undergoing the arduous and enthralling task of my stock list...lol...! Any thoughts? Kinda new to this! Xystichromis sp. Kyoga Flameback (2 m | 6 f) Astatotilapia nubila (1 m | 3 f) Copadichromis Chrysonotus ( 2 m | 4 f) Aulonocara Baenschi ( 2 m | 4 f) Placidochromis Phenochilus ( 1 m | 2 f) Thanks all...any input would be greatly appreciated! Onward...
  10. This tank is incredible...congratulations, and beautiful photography! :w00t:
  11. Hello All! My name is Nathin. I have recently decided to re-enter the wonderful world of Aquariums. I have decided to go with a Cichlid tank and dove in by purchasing a 135 gallon! I previously had 2 x 20 gallon, 1 x 33 gallon, 2 x 10 gallon, and 1 x 50 gallon. I was just getting into brackish environments and higher level difficulty breeding amonst community tanks when i was finishing (puffers & discus, etc). I am excited to get back into it, and i hope to chat with everyone soon.
