  1. oh, and they are definately particular to propellers... I found that the best way to keep them out of your filters, etc was to cap off any intake valves with sponges as they like to play in the water flow and then WOOSH! up the intake and its not a pretty place to be... but strangely, about a 75% survival rate from getting spun in there... but they swim funny for a bit LOL kuhlis are especially naughty that way...

  2. The only thing I found with bettas as community fish (and I have had males in community tanks too, they did quite well with tetras and whatnot) is the tanks cannot be too large or sparsely decorated/planted. They get hyper stressed and will go into shock. remember, natural habitat is akin to a puddle so too big a spaxce is agorophobia. 33 gallons max seemed to be the limit. anything larger and i had betta shutdown. i never had more than 1 male/3 females in a tank though so no clue on a 20 girlie tank... if ya do, i so wanna see pics!

  3. well its not unexpected... the angel and the mollie both bit it... given that i thought it was on SAE because of its colour at first glance (he browned up nicely and is quite happy, the little otto) they were too stressed... but they were NOT FLUSHED! :welcome: to fishy heaven gently... well... ish... poor things... i wonder how long they had been in that busted rubbermaid container... :chair:

  4. so a tenant comes downstairs today, asking to borrow a pen and paper. i say sure, what for. he says he has a fish tank and stand that he wants to get sell, tonight, before he leaves on a plane and as soon as he writes the note he is going to go upstairs and flush the fish and finish packing...

needless to say i now have my first fishtank in 4 years, complete with clownpuke and plastic plants (although i took off the shiny wrapping paper background he had taped to the back) and i hope the sweet angelfish, oto and mollie do not die tonight given they had 6 inches of water in a rubbermaid container, a crashed tank and were about to be given a acidpiss swirlie... (the old flusharoo)... as i see it though, better they might pass in my house being wanted but i ~REALLY~ hope they dont... they look good so far. cross your fingers folks!

  5. Is there any such thing as a dwarf bichir? im am just getting back into the hobby and bichirs are ... sorry girlie moment... CUTE! but the first tank I am getting is a 33... and from what i can find they get pretty big pretty fast. but i see them in LFS in average tanks. what are their growth rates? i am just happy my hub is allowing tanks in the house again LOL and i want to try something out of the box... mind you... i will have another loach colony soon enough and MAYBE take to breeding corys again...

  6. OOooooo geckos! My daughter wants a leopard gecko (shes 15) but i get to set up my tanks in our new house first  see how our cats deal with those before we introduce a scurrying friend. welcome to our world!

  7. They lost Arnold. Aka were stupid and don't know the fish industry. And the lights well.... The front is usually lit fairly well but not dingy but if they timed it for when the sun was shining in the windows then i can understand how they got it so bright. It's the back with the tanks that isn't lit at all except for the tanks. Personally I'm not sure if this is for real or not or just a hoax because they JUST opened up another store on the south side from what i heard. If they do sell or close then I want the info on where to get some of their products overseas.

Hmmm.... Maybe i'll haveto pop in and ask.

    Thanks for sharing

    L

P.S. Isn't that arnold in one of the pictures behind the counter??? He's tall enough to be anyway.

The owners just wanna retire from what I hear.

I think they know the industry a little bit, they have been in business quite a while. And they would've went under if they didn't know the "industry" lol. I have no idea why you post such useless garbage insulting a very well liked fish store.

Honestly, once again, why in the hell would someone take time out of their day to post Aquagiant for sale if they were not serious? I think if someone did it as a "hoax", or whatever you wanna call it, It'd be somewhat illegal?

And as for their suppliers, goodluck! A proud Asian business man will never ever EVER give up his sources, or his secrets, due to competition. So IMO they're going to smile at you, hmm and haw, and say no.

Not a hoax, i work in the property industry, ICX is the commercial version of MLS. just figured to post on here, 1) cause thats too bad that they are selling but 2) how many here havent dreamt of their own store... LOL ready made and outfitted... that'd be awesome... but my husband would KILL me, he wants a house first... dumb man ;)

  8. Thank You to everyone who has responded! I have received lots of information. I went to Big Al's today & after all my research & the advice of people here & consulting with the staff.....we brought home a few YoYo Loaches. I also picked up some other foods for them to eat. I already have frozen blood worms on hand. I really like my little guys! They are so cute.....I am starting to think I should have bought a couple more. They aren't very big right now only a couple inches. I try very hard to keep my tank up to snuff. Water changes, vacuuming, etc. I forgot to replace my water test kit while there but, will have to wait til my next trip to the city. The tank in question is a 55g. Bought it off a member from this site. I did check out the Assasin Snails but, wasn't really sold on them. The food issue...my Hubby only fed the tank once a day versus our twice daily feeding so I don't know about an over feed in the tank...think the daughter already does that. Though she is getting better. Will wait to see what my new YoYo's do. I even like the name!! Got called the YoYo in High School as one day I was there & one day I was not. Had a full schedule keeping up my own apartment & working full time & attending school when I was only 15. Must say I have become a great multi tasker!! Anyways......thanks again to everyone for their help I greatly appreciate it. Just gotta say....I love this site!!!!!!! Take care all!!! Kristie
Adding Loaches may sound like a good idea but Loaches have special requirements that need to be met in order to thrive.

Clown Loaches and Striatas need warmer water than most fish enjoy. Border Loaches stay small, but can be pushy. Yo-yos can get to 7-8 inches and are much happier in groups, as are ALL Loaches! All Loaches require high water flow/ lots of oxygen. Most Loaches get too big for any tank under 40G. The exception being Kuhli Loaches... and the don't eat snails.

Some other suggestions would be cut way back on feeding, try some assasin snails, or even just squishing/plucking the snails.

Loaches require alot of water changes, and are quite delicate if not properly maintained. They do not exclusively eat snails, and must also be fed wafers, shrimp pellets and frozen bloodworms.

    Hope this helps

    Tammy

I have a soft spot for clowns but kuhlis drove me nuts, I had one that was suicidal and got sucked up my intakes... kept going there so i had to build a CAGE around the opening to keep him from sticking his face in LMAO

  9. *chuckle* as a manager of an edmonton apartment building, i have only had problems with tanks owned by a jerk. well, i thought he was a jerk, because do NOT flirt with me and be coy when i ask how big the tank you want to put into a 3rd story suite of a wooden building 40 years old and says its 'only 125G, its light"... sheesh. (his face when he came into my basement apartment and seen the 70G, 55G, 33G and 20G was priceless. light huh?) I tell people that supplementary insurance is mandatory for aquarists, as we all know that 1 tank is NEVER enough LOL. and its VERY inexpensive, and most insurance places give you a combo discount if you have vehicle insurance with them too. i do limit the size of the ones in upper floors... but in a concrete building... man, that'd be... humid to say the least

  10. well, just kidding on that part but the convenience store buy my house has 3 turtles in a 20G (i think its that small, i dont think its a 33) with maybe 4 inches of water, no plants and the big one is 8 inches with two 4 inches, poor things cant even move around or swim... all they do it sit on the rock that makes the water even less roomy as it takes up 1/3 of the tank... dumb humans. they dont look good. i even gave the guy the addy for this website to get a cheap bigger tank... *sheesh*

  11. i have a 70G community and at the moment i have : 2 clown loaches, 2 weather loaches, 5 emporer tetras, 3 head and tail light tetras, 2 danios, 7 cories, 4 appistogramies, 3 skirt tetras, and soon to be 3 BN plecos. understocked, from what i have been told, but eh, auctions tomorrow :D
