  1. I have both rummynose and espei rasboras in my 55; they both school nicely. I personally like the copperish colour from the rasboras playing off the green of the plants.
  2. I've got a reddish swordplant in my 55 gal. right now, with about 3" of plain sand substrate, and its doing great. I push in a Seachem root tab every 4 months or so (whenever I remember). Every two weeks I'm pulling 3-4 old leaves off of it so the new ones will grow (and so the old leaves won't take over my tank), and always leave at least 6 leaves on the plant. Also, by 5" albino BN doesn't do any noticeable damage to the leaves when it decides to munch on it.
  3. It took a few tries until my ottos realized I was offering them food. Once they realized it, they went for it with full gusto. Try spinach leaves; a favorite of theirs. Keep trying with the zucs, just make sure you take it out before it pollutes the water.
  4. I'd say go for a bristlenose plec, they only get 5" or so, and mine's never trashed my plants...

  7. I also agree with the rummys. They seem to school very tightly, especially in groups of 10+.
  8. I'd be careful with the riccia; my friend tried spot dosing his riccia with excel and managed to melt it all away. I know vals are sensitive to spot dosing with both excel and HP (same effect - both chemicals melt them away), so you might be in the same both with your riccia.
  9. Great, thanks for the replies.
  10. Hi everyone, Has anyone used the Fluval, or other internal filters? I'm planning to set up a 55 gal tank in our hole in the wall between the living room and dining room, and don't want a HOB filter blocking the view and have no room to place a canister discretely anywhere. Any good points/bad problems with them? I was planning a planted tank with a few angels, rummys, and corys in the tank. Thanks.
