  1. well like the title states i'd like to remove the covers from both stingrays, the shipper said leave them but i think they should be removed but i dont know how! please help!
  2. i keep my tank at 85F, but i have discus with my rays. the higher temp increases their metabolism thus making them crap more though lol, i totally agree with skynoch however, if you can do a 8'x3' you will be beyond happy thats a perfect tank for many other fish, including asian arowanas and pang long diablo reds are GORGEOUS! oh and just so you know here are my scobinas, so if you're willing to wait a couple years for pups...
  3. i keep a black arowana, soon a super red arowana, angel fish (altum), inspector plecos, queen arabesque plecos, and discus i find the discus keep to themselves and same with the angels, you wont have any problems with an aro in that tank but i suggest getting an asian on as the SA ones grow HUGE... or at least bigger than the asian ones. other things i've seen are dats, clown loaches (pretty cool actually they would school right above the ray as it cruised around). otherwise just make sure its not a very aggressive fish and also make sure its not a very small fish, Mine took out some cardinals (on purpose!) cool to watch
  4. Ditto The exotics need huge tanks If you want to try something in an 80 gal thats "exotic" i suggest some discus, they are an excellent introductory fish to the world of the "exotics" IMO if cared for right they thrive, if not they die, there seems to be no middle ground with them.
  5. i heard you cant use silica based sands because it scratches and irritates their undersides
  6. yeah i'll have to try them out, i dont think i'm going mint green though lol, but i'll forsure call, and i'm right with the quartz based right? i think thats what i need i just need to double check
  7. hmm i'll have to give canar a try (i'm on the southside) are they pretty cheap as well?
  8. alright so i would like some slate pieces that i can stack together, a larger rock (about a 12" around or so), some nice white sand (quartz based cause its for rays ) and thats all i need for now but i dont know where to get it
  9. If you talk to Frank @ Family Pet Supercentre i'm sure he'd be happy to bring some in for you, i was just at BA today in edmonton and yikes the rays are in bad shape so i wouldnt buy them from there at least
  10. Great Job, rays are rare around here, way to keep the population going
  11. Hi, my name is Marek, i have been keeping fish for about 2 years now, I keep discus mostly and couple community fish with them. I'm also interested into getting FW stingrays, if you know of anyone or anywhere that is reputable for them i'd appreciate you letting me know.
  12. i'm interested in possibly starting a sturgeon aquarium. I think that they are awesome monsters, and would like to have some. i know they grow to about 4' in aquariums so obviously i'd have an appropriate sized aquarium. does anyone know any information on these things in Canada, and where i can get them? Sorry for the typo in the name, they are Actually Sterlet Sturgeon not Sterling lol
  13. Yarp! i totally agree with her on this i keep discus, they should be in a bare bottom but i suppose i'm just too lazy to pull everything out. but then again i do 75-100% waterchanges daily so... But back to buying discus, dont buy from a LFS you will end up paying $100 for a low quality fish that will cause you nothing but problems
