  1. appreciate the offer with the melafix!;)

  2. pulled the carbon out a while ago, when I tried melafix, my wife started general cure yesterday (bless her heart) while I am out of town, as soon as it has run it;s course the carbon will go back in. She has separated one species into another tank. She has become a self proclaimed waterchange master she says, since she was "voluntold" to be fish mom. Time will tell what happens, against my better judgement I put these guys in my tank, now look where I am, out looking for a hospital tank I should have used as a quaranteen tank in the first place.......figuring crap out one disaster at a time.....ARG! Any other advice is totally appreciated, cause I'm not the first nor the last dummy to do this!lol
  3. My water has been at 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite and 5 -10 nitrates the whole time, that's why I am so confused that it fell apart. Have been doing 25-30% water changes every other day, using Prime, replacing salt etc. So I figured dru time......
  4. Is it possible to run API general cure and API E.M. Erythromycin at the same time, I babysat some fish for a friend who was in a real tough situation, now things are nuckin' futs. I have lost 3 fish, german reds have hole in the head, other fish look to have cloudy eyes, fin rot and some sort of skin ailment. Tried Melafix at first, nothing. Next was Kanaplex, nothing. Out of ideas, poor little guys, feel like such a bad dad....any help would be appreciated
  5. did you ever get fry and are they still alive? For sale?
  6. I tested with an API test kit for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, all are good.Added salt. The tank mates are 8 electric yellows, 8 Copadichromis azureus and 2 plecos and the 8 german ruby reds. It started with the azureus scratching off the bottom, then the cloud eye started with them, and then all hell broke loose. Got home to find to find some sick fish. Some still look crappy, most look way better, not sure if I should run the meds longer than the 6 days it says for the meds. Just afraid that if not everyone is good it will come back. Also thinking about buying a 10 gallon tankk and putting the 2 sick looking guys in it and contunuing the meds with them only.....new to sick fish, any help is appreciated
  7. I aquired some Ruby red cichlids from a friend, took off to work for 9 days and came home to find cloudy eyes, and everything from some sort of fungus or velvet er something, to clamped fins or rot. Water is good......So I started a broad spectrum antibitic and a fungicide. My question is....IF I get this under control does this junk live in the tank, and effect new fish etc?
  8. I was thinking about these victorians Paralabidochromis sp. "rock kribensis", Mwanza Gulf Neochromis omnicaeruleus (Haplochromis sp. "blue scraper", Haplochromis sp. Xystichromis sp. "Flameback" was kinda thinking 40-45 of these in my tank
  9. is stuck on a weapons range....crummy

  10. Just wondering what number of africans I can put in my tank, it is 125 gallon and has an FX5 for filtration I was thinking 35-40, 2 males 6 females of 4 or 5 species. What u think
  11. Wouldn't you know it, I take off to work, and a few days later my wife calls to say the problem is solved, she kept an eye on things, the fish were coming and going on their own, she did count after count, finally they were all there! She filled the hole with a piece of filter sponge, burried it and voila. fixed, and no body count! :smokey:
  12. The difference between the Prime and the big Al's is the concentrations. Prime is far more concentrated therefore you use less, so in the longrun it is cheaper because it treats more gallons per bottle.
  13. I have an aquaterra background in my 125 gallon thank, the tank is basically new since my four year old daughter decided to give my Arrowana 2 liters of Pepsi because "He was thirsty". Everything is up, cycled, and great except for one little problem. The background along the bottom had a 1/2 inch bow in it leaving it high in the center, no biggy, just put in a cedar shim to tighten everything up while I was putting in one heck of a bead of silicone. Everything set up nice, got the sand in, rocks yada yada. But appearently forgot to fill the void left by the shim with sillicone. Some time later I was sitting back looking at the 8 little cichlids swimming around, chasing each other, you know fish stuff, when it dawned on me that the tank sure looked vacant. So I proceeded to counting them..."1,2,3,4,5,6.....WTF? OK start again...1.2.3.4.5.6! Two of them are missing!!!" My brain went into action mode! " Where could they have gone? The lids are closed, the kids haven't been here all day, and the cat is far too stupid to mastermind a coup like this!" After doing my best to search behind the background, wich was almost impossible because the tank is about 2 inches from the wall, and the background is anywhere from almost flush with the back of the tank to about 3 inches inside the tank. I found them! Back there chillin' Turns out the water pressure in the front of the background was higher than the backside, this caused the substrait to get sucked in behind the background, exposing the escape route for my little friends. So the problem is how do I get 'em out? I can't get a net back there. I did try a lazer pointer to try and show them the way out, but it is far too restricted a space to pull that off. I also pulled off the overflow screen on the background, and pulled the fx5 output out of it's hole so there are now 3 ways to get out. Sometimes there is one back there, sometimes 3 and a catfish. I'm out of ideas, and I really don't want to plug up the holes and call it a day, then deal with body recovery later. So any Ideas? I've also included a pic of the setup so you can see kinda what I am talking about. Thanks for any help in advance! Jay

    fx5 media

well I just picked up my first canister filter, and have no idea what to put into it. I did get some bio media, carbon with ammonia remover, other than that I have no idea what to put in there. Was kinda thinking peat? Anyone fave any suggestions, and if so why? All opinions are welcome. Thanks, Jay
  15. Just wondering if there is anyone in red deer that breeds Victorian cichlids, or has stock?
  16. My name is Jay, I am from red deer and just getting back into the hobby, owned arowana's until my 4 year old thought it was thirsty for 2 liters of Pepsi. Took some time off, and got things cleaned up, now cycling my tank. Hoping to do Victorian cichlids this go round. Bit of a noob in certain ways, not so in others. I'm gonna need advice for sure. So hello!
