  1. Well I have started C02, it is just a couple of bubble ladders, and 2 bottles. I live in a basement suit so there is very little natural light. I am not sure if that is enough CO2 or not, but it does change my PH a little. I am currently running a double T12 fixture, and no algae. As for plants, I have hornwort and valesinaria, and some swords. The swords are doing terrible, the Val, is just staying constant not really growing and the Hornwort is growing very well.
  2. So Canadian tire has T8 48" light fixtures on for 30 bucks. It is the 2 bulb style. Is this a good deal? I was thinking of getting 2 fixtures, and running 4 6700K bulbs. Is this lots of light to grow plants? My tank is 20" deep. Any thoughts or comments would be helpful thanks
  3. Update. The white on there mouths has cleared up. I think I will just monitor them in the hospital tank for another day or 2. It is too bad I add the wrong medicine. It won't happen again. Thanks
  4. Cool Fish! Thanks for sharing
  5. It helps to add fish over time. Dont put them all in at once. Get a few let the bioload catch up, then get some more. If your water conditions start to fall you have to many. Fairly simple.
  6. So an update! I have all 5 in the hospital tank. I decided against doing the salt-water dip because several web sites said it was unneeded stress on the fish, and it was more a last resort action. I got melafix and pimafix. The guy at big als said I could put both in. Stinky stuff! It says on the bottle I should dose for 7 days? Is that really necessary? Anyways plan on checking the water tomorrow and doing a partial water change
  7. As you can kinda see it is very lightly coloured. I have 1 other picture but it won't let me upload it. "Used 902.2K of your 1MB global upload quota (Max. single file size: 121.8K)"??
  8. They are young Pearl gouramis. About 2" big. Um Trichogaster leeri. Wow taking good pictures of fish is hard! i got 2 images that kinda show what i am talking about. The danio wrecked the one shot!
  9. They have white lips! I am setting up a hospital now. There is 5 fish and they all have it to some degree. It isn't really drastic, and it doesn't appear to be slowing them but it can't be good. Also none of the other fish seem to have it. I was wondering what med's you would suggest? Should I do a salt dip? I am going to be doing some more research tomorrow, and see what else I can dig up online. I was also wondering about Deworming them while i have them separated? I have read that these fish are prone internal parasite and such and it cause problems for them. I have tried to keep these fish in past several years ago and they would be fine for like 6-10 months, and then it was like they would get depression and slowly die... Any help, suggests, comments and Questions would be appreciated! I will try to get some pics up, and an update tomorrow night.
  10. In the ground it goes! Done  Thanks Guys
  11. Today I put the stem of Hygrophilia corymbosa Stricta in a natural hole in my chunk of drift wood. I jammed the stem in and kinda twisted it so it would stay. I did this gently so the stem isn't messed up. Do you think this a good place for it? Any one else attached this plant to wood? On the net it says that the plant need nutrient rich soil, drift wood is rich right????
  12. Hello! My name is Daniel I have been living in Edmonton almost 2 years now. Originally from Allan Sk, it is by s'toon. I have kept fish a long time. I started with guppies, and moved on to cichlids which I kept them for a long time. I got a batch of F1 fry from the s'toon auction and kept them 5 years, I called the 1 fish old blue but I gave away all my cichlids just before christmas, cause I was going home for a few weeks and then work would pickup and i was on the road most of the winter. Although i am looking for work now... if anyone knows of good machineshops that are hiring let me know. Anyways right now in my tank i got a pictus Catfish he is awesome i fed him hot dog once! Zebra fish, and Goodeid 1st time with them, not sure if I like them. A pleco, and Pearl gourami. I have struggled with keeping gourami in the past, they always seem to waste away, i have read/i think the problem at the time might have been worms in them maybe i don't know will have to wait and see how they do... I would say the highlight of my fish keeping was spawning zebra danio's that was really cool. anyways i look forward to meeting you all.
  13. I have had a betta with amano shrimp. The shrimp was about an 1.5" so I wasn't worried about the betta eating it. Eventually the shrimp grew big enough that it started trying to catch the betta. This was really entertaining because the shrimp was horrible at it. Although the betta's fins started to look ragged because the shrimp kept growing and slowly improved. I had to separate them Although it was a really good desk tank while it lasted.
