  1. Better yet, what are some things that people have been banned for? I mean specifics too, not just "he wasn't following forum rules." Word is that Rahim got banned over something really silly. Rahim is a great guy, I don't understand how this could have happened. nevchewy, people have gotten warnings for things because they are "not what people want to hear". So basically, you are left with a choice to be a priss (this is quite true, as discussed with an important of an AA member who shall remain anonymous) and say things that people want to hear or ought to hear, or face warnings. I think some members are too wound up and need to relax a bit, although I understand there is high moral fibre within the AA community.
  2. Thanks for the link, HOSStile and Dunl. How bad has Ich gotten for you guys? I look in my tank right now and the 2 SA Puffer bodies are nearly covered in white spots. I'm starting to suspect that the Ich infestation bas begun for quite a few days before I got around to actually noticing it.
  3. I'm using Nox-Ich to treat these guys, but the problem seems to be getting worse. My 2 South American Puffers are now speckled with white dots on their bodies and look to be very skinny. I would consider placing them in a 10 gallon hospital tank for treatment, but that is something I do not have room for. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is a 20 gallon too large and disperses the effect of the medication? The instructions say 1 drop per gallon of water, but half dosage for scaleless fish, or should I put more?
  4. What are you people's experiences with raising Kribensis fry? I looked in my tank yesterday and found a dozen of small fry swimming around under the watchful eye of the parents. Today, there are only 8 fry remaining. Is the survival rate for the fry poor? And how often will I get a chance to attempt to raise the fry (this is the first time they've spawned)? They are kept in a 10 gallon tank with 6 neons and 1 swordtail that doesn't bother anyone. I make routine water changes once a week (30%).
  5. Good thing my Puffer tank is invincible and suffered no losses when I restarted it 4 days later. Winnage!
  6. No, I'm pretty sure the bottom half of this jpeg is swallowed by the abyss. I can't even see the substrate.
  7. Is it just me or is there only half a picture loaded?
  8. Holy smokes, those closeup pictures are impressive. May I make a suggestion? Is there any way to take a landscape view picture and keep the clarity of your fish? I'd like to see the rest of your tank, making the whole picture clear as water.
  9. This begs the question, and pardon my brutal language: Why did you buy such disfigured fish? Did you know what you were getting into when you bought these fish from the store? Or did these symptoms manifest after you got them? I'm confused because I'm not sure if you knew they were going to stay that small.
  10. The baggy idea is the best way for me to go about performing a mercy kill. I had to kill my Betta that way. You just put the fish in a clear plastic bag, make sure there is little water to no water or the impact will not kill the fish. Just hold the bag with the fish at the other end and whip the fish against a hard surface. BOOYEAH. It sounds horrible, but it's like dying instantaneously in a car crash, there is no pain unless you survive the crash with missing limbs and horrific scars. It's best to just double bag the fish and throw it out. I'm not really a big fan of flushing fish, especially if they die due to bacterial/parasitic infections.
  11. You know, it's probably easier if you put them in a plastic bag and smash them on a hard surface. Well, for me anyway. Some people have problems with doing it hands-on, haha. At least you can look forward to getting new fish.
  12. How much do Ghost Shrimp affect the bioload within a tank? If they don't place too much of a load on it, what would be the maximum number of ghost shrimp to keep in a tank? Let's go with 10 gallon and 20 gallons.
  13. Could it be possible that his discolouration is due to the other Bolivian Rams? Most of the times, a dominating male will cause the lesser fish to change into less eye-catching colors. There was another thread in which a Pleco turned nearly all black as well. You might want to search for it, as I saw it roughly a month ago or so. If your Ram does not appear to have any physical signs of illness, it might work if you move him to another tank to observe his behaviour.
  14. I don't mean to be a hole, but the way you describe it is just too damn funny. ...Okay, well maybe I AM trying to be a hole. :guns: :guns: :guns:
  15. No very, these guys max out at like 1.5 inches. They're mean, pinchy, and will kill fish if they get their claws on them. They scuttle sideways like roaches when startled. I have 5 in a 3 gallon tank, which is stupidly small. I should relocate them, or be ready for some deaths
  16. ...Actually, if you know how to feed the puffers properly, you can easily minimize detritus and leftover food. Personally, I just net some bloodworms and let them pick at it and move from tank to tank after I've seen that the puffers have gotten their fill. In regards to waste, 50% water changes every week is an earmark, so it waste buildup is not a concern, unless you neglect the tank. Most puffers are territorial, but you can keep a number of them without them hurting each other. Pea Puffers might be fast little buggers, but only when they "sprint". They don't chase other puffers around the tank. Most people caution you to keep one Pea Puffer per 3 gallons of water because they don't want to be held responsible for any mishaps that might occur, so they go with the safest number. Being cautious is good, but it doesn't necessarily mean if you go over that number, that there will be madness. Also, windeindoiel makes a point about passive tankmates, this is also the same with Pea Puffers. I keep 8 Pea Puffers with 2 South American Puffers in a 20 Gallon, and most of the time they stick to the right side of the tank. There's been no aggression between them, although there are hints of a pecking order. Live life on the wild side, buy a couple more puffers, there will be no problems if you do everything right.
  17. Or...maybe the food that he feeds them is so good that they can't get enough of it!
  18. JHG, do you think you can post a photo of your tank just for kicks? I've always been interested in invertebrates, and marine species seem so much more diverse and colorful.
  19. Thanks for being understanding, thefishdude. I appreciate the work and setup that you've put into the tank.
  20. blah Note: Due to "administration" problems that are nowhere to be found on site policy and/or forum rules, I retract my constructive comment on thefishdude's tank.
  21. Uhhhh, you want to give us a brief tidbit on why this fish is THE killing machine?
  22. You wouldn't want to buy Pea Puffers at a Petland, trust me. Big Al's is where you should go.
  23. Also, I just want to mention that Big Al's has pea puffers at the moment. None of the other fish stores have any, so if you're serious about buying them you should do so soon. I will post a picture of my puffer tank. I keep 2 South American puffers in there with them.
  24. Hideo, you can keep like 5 pea puffers in a 10 gallon tank. Place several pieces of large rock in the tank along with 2 or 3 plants. Your puffers will spend most of their time swimming along the glass, so don't worry about trying to make a grand tank out of it. 50% water changes every week is recommended because you're keeping them in a small tank. Feed them everyday. For your information, Otocinclus do well, but they're fragile. Keep the tank simple and your gravel cleaning will be easy.
