  1. I went cheap as well buddy had a old 90 gallon but was to tall so i took the pain off cut it down and put it on the top so the tank sat on its side still 90 gallons then i cut up my first fish tank (15 gallon ) made the baffels out of it. i have about 140# of ceramic rings in the center i put filter whool in the first chamber to polish. there is enough room in the last chamber to go about a week worth of evap if i dont have the lids on but always do water changes before then anyways. i wish i went bigger yet i havent noticed a problem and everything seems to be in check. clean it about twice a year i pull everything out rince it off and wash everything. only thing is when the power goes out because of the tank has such a wide foot print it only frops 3/4 inch but comes up to about a cm from thr top of the sump but so far so good

  2. when i moved my tank 84x42x28 its only half inch glass so prob not as heavy 8 guys and a dolly i was able to pick it up to the dolly wheel it where i needed and then cover the stairs in blankets and slide it down the hard part was the pivot at the bottom of the stairs. crazy thing is im just renting and did all of this knowing ill have to get it out one day also used lifting straps and worked wonders had suction cups but hard to trust

when I move out I plan on crating it up with wood then it will have handles to hold on to it hook it up to the quad and winch it up the stairs it works in my mind so it has to work

  3. I have rec many fish over the years but yet to ship until now have plenty of coolers and bags but i wouldnt mind help from someone who knows what there doing 12 inch arowana going to van do i need any permits or just book a flight and drop it off do i need oxygen how much water to air just want to be sure

have plenty of extra fish stuff to trade or cash if need be let me know if anyones intrested

  4. Im crazy enough to rent with big tanks though i did look in to installing a tank less hot water heater already as that was my first thought i was even going to ty a small one just for that reason then i would just take it with me when i move. I bought a stash of 15 or so http://www.homedepot.ca/product/ge-heavy-duty-household-water-filtration-unit/977705 from someone with about two full boxes of different filters for them I will look in to if I have the right filters or can get them for them.

  5. I was thinking about the heated drip but wasn’t sure how people are getting around not having to used prime with Edmonton tap water. the only other thing is id have to have a run a drain across the room as tank is situated on the opposite side of where the drain is located or id have to trust a auto top off to pump out of the sump when it gets to high. Thanks everyone for the fast and informative suggestions so much more to think about and a drip would make it that much easier may as well have to re think that one I have lots of DIY filter things but is that enough depending on what is in them to remove it all.

  6. Total water volume is around 600 but might be adding another 200 to the same system so i think im going to give it a go as i will basically be using heat lost from my water tank to heat my tanks. Now all I need to do is find a way to store and heat another 200+ gallons every two days for water changes used to go out of the tap but run out of hot water to fast and the temp drops a more then id like I have to do like 3 100 gallons water changes every few days rather do just 1 big one.

  7. So im thinking of taking the shell off of my hot water tank and wrapping metal hose around the tank and put the shell back on then i will just have a loop from my sump around the hot water tank and back in to the sump. has anyone ever tried it i will have the pump hooked to a temp controller and when it drops it will kick in the pump what are your thoughts am i crazy or can a large tank become energy efficient i plan on switching all the pumps to dc and in theory this should heat for way less than 2 300 watt heaters seem to be on a lot

I already have a hot water tank set up with a heat exchanger inside for a hot tub but would figure that to be way overkill for what I need
  8. I saw the build part on mfk and seen Edmonton and wondered who it was with the sweet tank how do you find it with the fact that the back tank doesn’t really show the fish off as it didn’t look like there was much in the room behind it except for some might sweet plumbing and electrical automation.
