  1. One thing I have found over the years is that many fish are attracted to the trailers of other fish and will keep nipping them until they are completely gone. If you want to maintain the awesome trailers on the geos stay away from the fin nippers. These are usually smaller fish like mbunas and some tetras so I find it best to keep geos with larger fish.

    they are nipping each other

  2. I have 5 geophagus proximus approx 3-4" long.Currently I feed them about 1/4-1/2 a teaspoon of Omega One Super Color Cichlid sinking pellets twice a day. They easily gobble up this amount in under a minute. They are super healthy looking so I'm afraid to change anything.

2nd they seem to be more and more aggressive toward each other, nipping tails and jousting. They don't want to be too close yet they all stick together?

3rd at what size will they pair up and do they mate for life?

  3. feed them more then usual blood worms etc and raise the temp a bit to simulate "spring"??? It seems that fresh/clean water stimulates them.I have had this happen many times.I also noticed if we are gone a lot the fish will lay eggs while we are gone, maybe they are stressed with more movement around them when were home? I even seen this behavior when I rearrange the tank.I've watched koi and goldfish in an outside pond start to mate after/during a big rain. Its definately linked to the fresh/clean water. I plan on doing a basement tank with a constant drip and over flow to promote this behavior.I have watched youtube vids on this set up and you never need to do water changes again.

  4. i also have the proximus,3-4", I think I only have 1 female and lost one 3 weeks ago during a water change with well water.I have 5 left and they are nipping each others tails,1 minute they are huddled together and the next they are jousting.I only have a pleco in with them.I have 5 remaining

  5. i've had bolod parrots, blue acara, rainbow shark, pleco. They are gentle fish but get fairly large and prefer to be in a group of 5 or more. You will need a 100gal.

did you get them at big Als?

I got mine there after having my name on a list for 1.5yrs and multiple requests from Spencerjack.Mine are starting to show purpleish red on their tails at 2"s,much earlier then my previous ones

  6. No oil exploration in my area, I guess i will get another sample tested. This is the first time i've lost any fish during a water change.Very confusing to what happened. Just nervous about losing my Proximus as I waited a yr for supplier to get them. So far they are growing very nice.

  7. Ok this was 3 weeks ago, changed water in both tanks like usual.Hooked up python, drained 40% of tank, added prime and let it circulate, refilled it with same temp water....done this a 100 times.Severums were dead when i got back home an hr later. The second tank that was changed at the same time is perfect and the geo's are good!

The 8" pleco lived but the severums didn't,I know I should have took out a sample but didn't,usually the severums would lay or hang low each and every water change but would rise within the hr.My water tested good from our well at the fish store.5 yr old 6" severums RIP.

I run PURIGEN in both filters and it polishes nicely, our well water has a slight tinge of yellow and the Purigen does a nice job.

    any thoughts?
