I also sent her an educating message suggesting the proper action towards giving up these fish for a better home. Paying for these fish is like supporting Puppy Mills.

In new memebers I said metal unistrut cause I use it all the time on the job but little did I know it cost about $10:00 fora 10ft length ouch guess I'm useing wood oh well .Metal would of been faster and neat.

I'm jumping on the NO train as well, I think it would be more of a hassle to boil, treat sink only to remove it when it starts to rot!! It is soft. If it was found near the Sask river I wouldn't put it near your fish tank, You would have 3 eyed, 2 bodied flying fish on your hands!!

Thanks, I can't wait for it to start to fill in!! I just threw in a few sinking algae waffers now I know I have WAY to many baby shrimp in this tank.. I gues i'll look forward in acouple months when they are big and hopefully get some out for trade!!

I'll try to update every month or so on progress. I want to get the backround black I think that might make the plants and red shrimp pop out a little more.

I couldn't agree more with the LFS Staff, Often they have NO CLUE what they are talking about, and often give customers wrong advice about so many different things that i've witnessed and I guess in my opinion. However there is once in a blue moon that staff member that knows exactly what they are talking about, I've spent an hour and a half talking to a man in the West Ed PJ's picking his brain for all the info I could grab.

Coming into this hobby I spent atleast 4 hours a night reading different articles about different things, and it's knowledge that I wouldn't of known without reading. I would have to say the most important knowledge you will gain will be through experience, some bad some good. Hopefully the "Bad" don't push you out of the hobby, It happens to us all. Kicking yourselves for that one SMALL mistake to wipe an entire tank. DOH!!!

Anyways that being said GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

So I haven't really been very active on the site in the past 3 months, as I tore down the 55 planted and wasn't sure what I was doing. I wasn't even sure if I wanted to keep fish anymore. I had decided to sell most of the plants and equipment, as for the stuff I wanted to keep I put it into my pride and JOY!

I think 2 Juvie BN's would be okay to have, you might have to rehome them when they get full grown. I don't know if they would breed in something that small but hey stranger things have happened, From my understanding it takes a 1-2 years for them to reach a breeding maturity.

I know what you mean with the Otto's about a month ago when I took down my planted tank after 1.5 years I Found 2 Fat otto's that I didn't even know that were in there haha talk about suprise.

You should clean them everytime you do a WC. Be sure that you don't squeeze them or rinse in normal tap water but just give them a shake and rinse in the water you are changing out. That's what I did and i didn't have a problem with them! If you squeeze them it wrecks the foam and after time it won't filter properly but IMO people are just being sticky about this. Also squeezing will rinse all your beneficial bacteria that lives inside the sponge.

I've heard people say never to clean and everything else. So just find what works and go with it.

Home Depot in St Albert has both items you need. The egg crate is super cheap I don't remember the exact price. Also HD also has Playsand which I use in ALL my planted aquariums I haven't rinsed it once and my water was crystal clear.
