  1. Hey,

Recently I watched as my sword sent out a long runner. This runner went straight up out of the water. It did not flower and it's still growing. This runner has different dections that are starting to grow new leaves, it also sent out another runner from this runner that's growing to the surface as well. What is this? I didn't think this is how sword plants duplicate. If it is how do I split it for new swords? If you need more of a picture I can snap a few photos, but I hope i'm reaching out to the flew planted tankers taht this has happened to and they know exactly what is going on with my vague and bad description.

  2. Hehe maybe someone can teach you have to spell "Scence" (Since) ;)

Welcome to the site, the site has so many knowledgable people!!! Look forward to your tanks, and hope you post pictures.

  3. So my planted tank and I have been battling beard algae for the past little while and I can't seem to get rid of it, I've removed all the affected leaves and what not but it just keeps coming back. I guess this is where my question comes in - Will a 3-4 day black out completely get rid of this algae? Also anyone have any other tips to wipe this nuisance out of my aquarium. This could be a case of brush algae as well.

I think as a last resort i'm going to treat all affectted plants with a 1-19 bleach water solution.

  4. What a great job, to swim in a Huge aquarium and clean the glass / tank.

I remember in 2005 I went to the Monoco Aquarium, which is over in Europe and it's supposed to ne the richest country in teh world. It took over an hour to walk around this place and no stop and enjoy any of the aquariums. This was of course back when I wasn't so much into the fish world. What I can remember though was it was HUGE!

  5. I believe she is holding, me trying to think back a month ago I would have noticed if she was that round she really sticks out. I've also noticed that she is spacing herself from the other 2 cories of her species. I have 7 cories in my tank 4 greens and 3 of these dudes. They don't pair together, they swim in separte groups it's strange looking.

  6. Hey,

I was doing some work on my tank and just watching the fish the other night and I seen this swim out from the vals and I know they get huge while pregnant, I bought 3 of these cories and they all were the same size and the other 2 are WAY more slim then this one. Anyways what do you guys think Preg or Not?

Ugh hard to see took with my iPhone i'll try to get a better one.

Also another big bonus on the site is the Livestock and Equipment Sales, often you find alot of good deals especially with plants I know myself thin out the tanks quite often and give alot away just to get it out of my face!!!!!

Anyways Welcome to the site, look forward to your planted tank and hopefully I can give you some insight if needed :) See you in the Planted Tank Forum

  8. I bought my setup on eBay, I believe it cost me 80$ for it. It's has 4 - 39w Bulbs and the Fixture came with the bulbs and it all shipped from China I believe with no Damage. I figured it was a pretty good deal. It's not a big name brand but it does the job I need it to.

  9. Here is the BEST way to clean a tank. This is what you'll need!

    4 Bungies

    Your Car

    Your Tank

Instructions - Strap the tank on the roof your your car, using the bungie cords of course! Drive to the nearest gas station, purchase a car wash and go nuts.

Or you can just use vinigar and a scrapper brush, I honestly think that the "Itch" would be killed soon as the tank has dried out. I believe it needs a host Gravel / Fish / Plants I could be wrong

    Good luck ;)

  10. The play sand I bought at Home Depot didn't require cleaning. I believe it's been washed prior to bagging.

I am going to disagree with this one.. I always see print on gravel and sand saying pre rinsed, and it still makes my water a tinge cloudy after I rinse it.

I've used Target Playsand from Home Depot for 4(6 bags) Tanks - I rinsed one, the other 3 I didn't rinse -- There was no difference in any of the tanks, just make sure you don't stir it up when adding and you will be fine. (Don't you dare say that I got lucky with one bag either)

  11. Totally my cichilds took 3 times to get things right, I'm not too worried about the first couple times see how it goes and what it amounts to. The eggs are fertilized so only time will tell I guess I checked them this morning and they are still there and they are guarding.
