Can't grow corals with LED's though. I looked into the Marine Land LED fixtures and emailed them. They said fish only.

Well I went with a Red Sea Prism... Mainly because my tank is so close to my wall. I have so many corals in my tank I have to run a skimmer, there is a huge bioload and my Goniopora are very picky about water conditions. They tell me when a water change is needed

It's Target brand Play Sand. Apparently washed and sterilized...

Not sure, bought at Home Depot... I think its at my Mother in Laws, its been there for 2 years now if its still there... I will see if I can locate it

Oh I can use play sand I have a huge bag of that. I bought to hold down some fake flowers at my wedding, but we used water bottles instead. Never knew what to do with it after cause it had a small hole so I didn't want to return it Does it need to be changed out regularly?

This one is from a guy on CanReef a Coralife Super skimmer 225. I was probley going to direct the flow right at the back side of my tank so nitrates don't build up behind/below my live rock... How much flow comes out of the outlet? If its too much I may design a different outlet to divide the flow into 2 or more nozzles.

I am curious if you can have too big a skimmer... I have a 29G tank right now, but plan on something much larger in a year or two... I would like to buy an oversized skimmer so I only have to make the purchase once, good idea?

What kind of substraite would be best in the breeding tank? Right now I have fairly large rocks in would sand or smaller rock be better? Also I understand that gravel vacuuming will suck up smaller snails, is there some sort of better waste control...

I may be color blind but which one is the black one? All I can see is 2 blue and a clown...

Wow thanks for the replays. My tank is 30" long, 12" wide, 18" deep. My clam and coral is about 12" from the lights so if this is going to work thats awsome. If not... those Metal Halides, do they just need replacement ballasts, bulbs, and better legs to be a not-so-bad unit?

Hello, I have a 30" tank which has 4 24w T5HO bulbs in it (in two housings). I have hard corals and a clam which most say require more light then I have... I have positioned them as high as I can on the live rock and am most likely going to get some more live rock to push them up even further. I am really considering a Metal Halide Retrofit Kit with a smaller bulb (150w) and just gutting one of the light fixtures and mounting a retrofit kit in so my corals/clam have enough lighting and keeping the other housing with T5's. Will this work? I am trying to keep costs down because this is a temporary tank (till I move and go bigger). Any suggestions on brands or experiences? Oh on a side note I also have soft corals they are very low and at the front, so Metal Halide would be in the rear housing...

They are super nice fish and I am really considering them. I am worried about my corals and calm though, some sites say that they may nip at them...

I would love some Clownfish but I had some Saddlebacks which I bought some FlowerPot Corals. They loved the coral but the corals didn't love them... Should have bought the right coral for the right clown I guess. Oh and we decided on a Dusky Jawfish that now has a new home in our tank He reminded us of our Bearded Dragon so we had to get him. I am waiting till Big Al's gets a new shipment of fish and hopefully something will fit my demands.

We have added a Citron (Clown) Goby, and today are going to get either a Yellowhead or Dusky Jawfish for something down low. I am hoping to find something for the open mid to high with lots of color and preferably something that will eat flake food... I am changing the carbon and mesh every week, I only have it in there because my water is a little cloudy. I have been dosing the aquarium with aragamilk to bring my pH and Calcuim levels up I may try other chemicals to do this thou...

Umm if I stop vacumming the gravel all the poop will accumulate... I understand why to stop but how do I keep the ammonia from rising too much from the waste? Oh and I will drop the water level, cause mines pretty high.

Hey guys I have had a snail tank setup for a year at least and I still haven't been able to get anything from it. I suspect that the bigger crab apple snails are eating the young? Or that the neon tetras where eating the eggs? The tetras were removed and I am now strongly considering moving the big snails... I try my best to over feed and I do water changes and vacuums every week. I am not trying to breed any particular type of snail, I just need something to feed my starving dwarf pea puffer. I do see egg sacs but nothing every develops and my fish store is getting tired of searching for snails for me. Please any advice would be awsome.

Good thing to know about the carbon. I was already planning on changing it more often then not. But after reading that the de-nitrification bags needed to be changed every week for freshwater and only half the bag every 3-6 months for marine, so I wasn't so sure about the carbon anymore Strongly considering: Hawkfish, Wrasses, Scooters, Blennies, Gobies, Damsels, Jawfish... Still trying to narrow it down some. I kinda like the idea of a Jawfish down low, something that plays in the live rock and a mid to high swimmer. I don't have an account for CanReef but I may sign up now.

Hello all, Looking for a few suggestions on what type of fish to put into my 29 gallon saltwater setup. I need something compatible with my flower pot corals and my cleaner shrimp. I have been leaning towards Jawfish or Scooters for the bottom. But I need advice for something reef safe and non-aggressive for mid to high. I had some Saddleback Clowns that were to aggressive, and I don't want to make that same mistake again. More on my tank: 34lb live rock, 25lb live sand (2-3" bed), 2 Filters running de-nitate, floss, and activated carbon, 1 power head and 96w of lighting (1 Atinic, 2 10k, 1 Coral Wave). I run 78 Degrees with 1.023-1.025 Specific Gravity. Thanks

Hello my name is Wayne, I have been into freshwater aquariums for almost 10 years (come to think of it my Black Skirt Tetras must be 6-7 years old...) I am just now venturing into saltwater and having a blast! Now I have a 29Gallon tank with 34lb live rock, 25lb live sand, 2 flowerpot corals, 1 colony polyp, 1 cleaner shimp, 1 maxima clam, 1 brittle star fish, 6 blue legged hermit crabs and 5 snails. I had some Saddleback Clownfish that were just to aggressive for the tank so I had to sell them But I hope to get some more fish this weekend if anyone has suggestions.
