i noticed in the past couple weeks one of my red empress is getting these black patches on it.

is this suppose to happen or is this some kind of parasite?

my smaller red empress is silver but seems to be getting the small spots on it

i got 3 electric yellows for 3 dollars

what is the appeal of acrylic tanks? they seem to be way more money, and doesnt acrylic turn yellow over time?

For colourful cichlids, I would look at malawi cichlids. I suggest peacocks, going for a male tank with some haplochromines.

i had a peacocks and they all died a week after i got them while all my other fish were fine. im a little discouraged from them

so i have a 75 gallon that i would like to stock. looking for colourful cichlids.

substrate is aragonite

i have an aquaclear 110 and a fluvel 404 filtering it so it shouldnt be a problem

any suggestions? currently only 2 jewel cichlids, 2 jack dempsy(moving out tomorrow) and a rubber lipped pleco.

my other tank is a 30 gallon long. housing 5 black skirt tetras, 6 of some other tetra, a betta and a few guppy fry.

i added 2 bubble stones, and i also have an aquaclear 110 HOB filter.

i increased the temp about 1 degree every couple hours.

it could be a ph difference because she was running tanks with regular gravel and my tank is aragonite..... my PH is over 8 which i assume is higher than hers

but heres the weird thing.

the fish that died i acquired from a lady here locally a week ago. but all of the other ones i had before all seem to be fine, not even infected.

would this have something to do with it?

i had peacocks in there and in the last few days i noticed 2 of them with velvet, so i turned up the heat and added some salt.

this morning i wake up and i have 7 dead fish laying on the bottom!

i checked ammonia and nitrite and both are at 0.

nitrate was below 10ppm

so im just wondering if anyone knows, does velvet really kill my fish over the course of a few days?

here are my 2 tanks.

first one is a 25 gallon underwater tree theme with a few african cichlids.

this is a 30 gallon long and contains 3 south american puffer fish.

both backgrounds are sculpted out of styrofoam and all the plants fake. the plants i bought at Michael's and weighed them down and used them underwater.
