  1. i will be keeping them in a 150 gallon tank, will this be enough room for them.

also will they kill each other if i do not have more than 5 to spread aggression?

150 gallon will give lots of room for the 4 fish.

It is important to know the age of the discus you are going to get. As you know usually juvenile discuses are kept in a group of 5+ because of aggression, in the smaller group what likely to happen is the weakest one will always be threatened by others that will result in sickness and becoming stunted.

I noticed that all your tanks are planted, if that is the case and your 150 gal is planted I would seriously consider going bare bottom if you discus is juvenile and you are planning to grow them to a good size.

    Hope it helps.

  2. Hi there...I have two 150gal tanks (5 feet long) & one 220gal tank (6 feet long) & am looking for some T5 lighting for them...

    any suggestions???

Do you plan to go high tech or low tech?

for 6 feet the best option to go is 36"x2 imho, better bulb choices, easier to sell.

    for 5 feet..hmm....24" + 36" ? :)

  3. Got a corner bowfront 36 gallon fresh water aquarium set.

    4 Discus

    2 Bristlenose plecos

    9 cardinal Tetras

    4 Black Neon

    1 Clown Loach

2 small catfish (can't remember the name)

I would like to add 1 more Discus but would prefer 2 so that I have a complete set of 6 Discus. I'm a little wary that they won't be happy in a 36 gallon aquarium if I did go to 6 Discus. Does anyone think I would be overstocking my tank?

I've had this tank now for 4 months and they are all healthy and active. I only have had 1 death and it was an overstuffed Cardinal tetra who was eating too much.

My tank is also a planted tank with natural driftwood and with an Aquaclear water filter.

All depends on what you are looking to get in the end. What is your goal?

as damtrees said the rule of thumb is 1 per every 10 gallon, but it does not mean you can put 2 in a 20 gal tank.

  4. Ive seen similar used in a wholesale fish market but the tanks were at most 75 gallon long..... I myself would not trust a 180 or even a 110 on a hollow channel beam of any kind without a wall thickness of 1/8-3/16" If you are going that big i would say befriend a welder and make it out of 1 1/2 or 2" square tubing or a real good carpenter and Big Bolts....

Thanks for the reply, will look into square tubing.

  5. I have about 40 tanks set up on them. They're nice to look at, but once they have more than 1200 lbs per shelf on them they start to sag in the middle.Mine have been set up about 3 months, I actually took the first couple of sections back down & reinforced them & put them back up.I did the rest as I set them up. It didn't make a huge difference with the sag in the middle but between the 3/4" plywood & the 1" styrofoam I used the tanks aren't having any issues. The steel mesh shelves that come with that stuff went into a dumpster. If your planning on working any amount with your tanks don't go more than 2 levels high. Just my 2 cents of advice though.

Thank you! what is the total weight of your tanks on the rack and per shelf?

How did you reinforce the sections?

  6. Hi All,

this is going to be my third return into the hobby and i would like to start with rack this time.

I have found a good rack that may be a good candidate to be used, but did not find anyone who may have used it in the past or heard anything.

    The rack is Whalen Industrial Rack- 76.875" x 24" x 72" (w x d x h)

    • Welded end frames provide strength
    • Each shelf holds 2,000 lbs. (evenly distributed)
    • Protective powder-coated steel
    • 4 adjustable shelves with wire decks
    • Link additional racks to create industrial-sized storage solution
    • Single tool assembly

I'm going to put one 180 gal (72x24x24) on the middle level, two 65 gal (35x24x18) on the top level and the sump 110 Gal (60x24x18) on the lower level.

    You help is much appreciated.

    thanks.
