1. id be coming in from airdrie

i normally go down to 16th ave ne or symonds valley + stoney trail at least once a week... both nowhere near your area unfortunately. ill see if errands take me that far south some time in the next week or so

2.

2 of my rcs were berried 2 weeks ago. i dont see any shrimplets at all. they are probably being snacked on by the minnows. . It is not a heavily planted tank. just moss and riccia. Im gonna need to throw in some thick plants they can hide in. good thing riverfront has the 2 for 1 sale this sat. ive seen the minnows spawning over 2 weeks ago... no fry yet. so eggs are either getting taken by RCS or fry/eggs are being taken by the minnows
3. thanks for the quick reply wcmm = white cloud mountain minnows
4. i also have the same question as the original poster id like to have RCS and WCWM in the same tank. My internet research has shown that the two will get along fine. What about breeding? I figure the RCS will reproduce and some shrimplets might get eaten... but probably not if the WCMM are well fed? How about the WCMM eggs? are they fair game to the RCS? i imagine they would be... anyone with experience with this?
5. id put them in a bigger tank obviously just wanted to see some cichlid interaction... from what im reading, salvini males are even more vicious than convicts maybe time to consider some friendlier fish to have in a cichlid community tank
6. would an equally aggressive pair of fish work? lets say a pair of equal sized salvinis? or will carnage likely ensue as soon as one pair spawns? im completely ok with a nervous stalemate with one pair claiming and defending one end of the tank and the other pair holding the other.
7. currently dealing with anchor worms in a tank research has shown me that this is more commonly an issue with koi and ponds the most common treatment ive found online is dimilin -- seems to be a controlled insecticide in Canada. anyone know where i can source one? i imagine there are enough farms in the area that we must have a local source somewhere if not, anyone know of a proven alternative that is safe to sensitive animals? thanks
8. My convicts spawned about 3-4 weeks ago and the fry are happy to be swimming around Yesterday i noticed the female convict's colours have become more intense again. Today i noticed that the male was harassing the female quite a bit and he seems to be hanging out inside/under the flower pot once again. I am assuming they are ready to spawn again. Is it safe for me to leave the fry in there? I really would like to prevent them from spawning again for as long as possible. Or are they likely to spawn again anyway and eat the kids ? thanks
9. over the holidays, im moving fish out of their tank (at work) and keeping them somewhere else for 2 weeks. id like to keep the tank at work cycled. how do i go abouts doing this? just throw 2 weeks worth of food in and let it rot to keep amonia production up???
10. got a pair of spawning convicts.... are there any fish that can handle being in the same tank as a pair of convicts? currently have them in a 20 gallon.... so i doubt anything survives in there with them. i do have a 40 gallon i could put them in. is there anything that can hold their own over these guys?
11. saw your plant ad

im looking for some hardy plants that my convicts wont beat up too much. heard the amazon swords would be good. do you still have plants for sale?

12. thanks. ill give them a few days. i have noticed the female is not cruising around and harassing barbs and eating bloodwords in the gravel. the make just runs from one hide spot to another
13. thanks... ill make a trip to the shop. looks like i got enough barb food to last them their lifetime
14. just wondering what is appropriate to feed in a tank with 2 convicts and 6 tiger barbs i bought a variety of flakes and pellets (kelp and cichlid pellets) and frozen bloodworms to give them diversity. problem im finding is that all this stuff floats... the convicts just hand out at the bottom. im can "presink" blood worms in jar before dumping it in the tank... but got a feeling that the barbs will get most of it before it reaches the convicts any advice would be appreciated
