  1. a vampire pleco... weird LOL gotta look that one up. I heard through Kolewolf that Charles might be able to source some soon due to the Brazilian embargo supposedly about to be lifted...
  2. I've always had very good luck with market prawn cut into small pieces. I have tried Hikari sinking carnivore pellets too, but my more aggressive feeders seem to always get these pellets first.
  3. I can let you have a 5-6 inch Panda Gold RTG for $375 plus about $60 shipping by Westjet from Vancouver. You will not find a better deal in Canada outside Toronto I think. Fish arrive in a month, pm if interested.

  5. I came across this video of an amazing com tank. The fish-feeding starts after about 45 seconds... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Eapad1ZV8
  6. What is the deffect? Is it a bit of drop eye on the right side?
  7. I visited the BLC farm near Penang Malaysia earlier this year. I just noticed they have stitched together a video of previously available still photos of their fish. ALthough the fish pictured do not cross over the 6th scale, the photos still provide a nice overview of the colour development you should see as a BBXB owner. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=p0y8SlKb3Ec&...feature=related
  8. It is not quite as simple as all that, but you are very close. If you are looking for your first fish and don't want to spend a fortune, I'd recommend a good quality High Back Red Tail Gold (HBRTG). I believe you've got a local fish shop in Calgary that carries DFI fish (Dragon Fish Industry); online you have www.arowanacanada.com out of Toronto carrying Sianlon, www.arovillage.ca out of Vancouver carrying Pang Long, and then www.dragonfish.ca, also out of Vancouver carrying Panda. You probably won't go wrong with fish from any of these sources, so your next line of question might be price. A few years ago a decent HBRTG would sell for $1000. Now the asking price is half that! We've got a few Panda Gold Supremes (HBRTG) for sale here in Vancouver at www.dragonfish.ca. Contact us if you are interested in a good deal! We also have some Indonesian RTG's coming from a reputable farm in a few months that should retail for around $300. I am pretty sure that is as good a deal as you will be able to find anywhere in Canada, including Toronto.
  9. I've used up my allotted band width for photos on this forum, and so provide a link to photos of our current stock. I have to check with Kenta to see if the BBXB is the same one we have in stock at his place...the fish pictured could be Rudy's? As far as the photos go, the platinum head XB is the star of the show I think. http://www.dragonfish.ca/current_stock_list.htm We will offer amazing deals on birchirs or eels now too! Pm for information!
  10. I have uploaded a few photos from the recent arrival of Panda fish in Vancouver. As you know, Rudy has a Blue Base Xback. Hopefully he will be able to get some better photos of his fish up soon (hint! lol); I have some decent shots of BBXB's in the bag at the airport, but I think you will need to go to www.dragonfish.ca and scroll down about half-way down the page to see them. Good luck to all who participated in the group buy!
  11. It is a morph of the gold XB according to this link : http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=20929 If it is in the "golden head" family of Xback, it has some Tong Yan (XB SR Hybrid), crossed again with an XB. The regional colour characterstics of XB's from various watersheds (ex. Bukit Merah, Tasik Bera http://www.marimari.com/content/malaysia/p.../bera/bera.html, etc. add for some variation. This is my understanding anyway.
  12. I'll post an email here I already sent you Rudy. It might be of interest to others on the forum.
  13. Those photos by Ash David are phenomenal.
  14. Congratulations! That is one QUALITY fish! I visited Pang Long a few months ago in Singapore. Mr.Kan of Panda Aquatics took me there for lunch. The manager of Pang Long, Derek Goh was in China on business, but I had a tour with the rest of the staff. The operation looked top knotch. I used to deal with Derek when he was floor manager at Panda and can only say good things. I'll try posting some photos from my Pang Long visit soon.
  15. I just noticed your post on this thread - and it was your first post on the forum! Heh congratulations on your first aro! Get ready for what could be a lifetime addiction!
  16. The owner of Sing/Pang Long arowana has put an end to the mudslinging of his misguided floor manager by saying the following: http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthre...655&page=23 Glad to see the big boss stepped in.
  17. This looks set to go down as one of the top 10 most viewed threads on Arofanatics. Over 5000 views in 72 hours, very unusual... http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=333655
  18. What an Asian arowana collection this guy has! If you have not seen this fellow's Asian aro collection photos out of Viet Nam, I'd recommend it: http://arowanaclub.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=927
  19. I just shipped an 8 year old RTG (25"+) from Vancouver to Winnipeg. It was done as a favour for a friend. All went well except that the bag that was provided was inadequate and punctured. In a nut-shell, here are my tips: 1. Get a large styrofoam fish box; ensure it is covered in cardboard as airlines insist on this. 2. Use Bag Buddies sold under Jungle Labs name 3. If possible use a heavy duty shrimp bag, available from a seafood dealer; If not, triple bagged 3mm should do. 4. Spike bag with oxygen if possible 5. Make sure your airline allows you to travel with the fish as cargo. If the fish will be unaccompanied cargo you must get an account (free) with Westjet (takes a week); not sure about Aircanada, am in process of getting hooked up with them now! The fellow I shipped the aro to last week posted a little narrative about the experience at: http://www.souvigna.com/arowana.html Let this serve as the old warning that "What can go wrong, will go wrong."
  20. I have a 535 gallon acrylic tank coming from Tenecor in three weeks (8' X 4'). I have been out of the country for a couple years and purchased the tank through a group buy I set up in Vancouver. The tank is plumbed with dual 1 inch drains and corner overflows; Cost was about $2300 including the shipping and taxes. I picked up a 75 gallon glass tank to use as a sump. After seeing your sump, I am thinking maybe I should have gone bigger... While I am happy with the price I have paid so far, I have discovered that I have to do some major reinforcement of the ceiling in my basement under the stairs in order to get the tank to fit where I want. Two concrete footings and a steel or heavy wooden beam spanning 9 feet are called for. I have a bad feeling the tank is going to be the cheap part of this project for me!
  21. Okay, so my touring of Thai fish marts and farms has begun. Just a few pics to share from a visit to the weekend market in Bangkok. The champion Flowerhorn and Red Texas hybrids shown are about $1000 C. The sumps are insanely cheap, as is the driftwood... http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b96/stra...0fish%20market/
  22. Okay - so I am in Thailand and Cambodia for the next month or so. I have a few places lined up to visit. Any one have any leads they are willing to pass on concerning the hidden gems of Thai fish farms?
  23. Wow! Nice stuff!!! Do you know about www.arowanaclub.ca?
  24. Imperial in S'pore has some in stock now. I've been told they are unstable and subject to sudden death. They do strike you as different when you see them!
  25. Yeah butterfly fish could be cool! Another top tank fish which hits about 10-12 inches and is active is an Anableps anableps. They are pretty neat, but hard to find. http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breedi...s_Anableps.html
