    Co2 canister

He has 2 but I think based on the dimensions he has quoted for the tank width and height that it must only be a 2.5 lbs tank not the 10 he has stated.

    Co2 canister

It says it is a 10lbs tank?

    Co2 canister

Can anyone tell me if this Co2 canister on Kijii will work for an aquarium set up I already have a Milwaukee regulator. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-ot...QAdIdZ156755618
  4. Another option for either a fixture or a retrofit kit is Catalina Lighting. The bulbs don't ship well but the fixture is great. http://www.catalinaaquarium.com
  5. So if I can figure out what to do about a cylinder in the next week I'll actually have my Co2 all ready ahead of schedule. Where does everyone get their cylinders from and do you rent them or buy them?
  6. East on Mcknight off Deerfoot, take the first left at the lights by the Wendy's/Tim Hortons, make another immediate left before you land yourself at the Canada Post Depot, follow that to the stop sign. Pisces is the big gray building on the right in front of you thru the stop sign. 4921 Skyline Way NE
  7. I have finished making my Mineralized soil and have installed it in my tank. I have some extra mixed up with the mineralized top soil and the clay already mixed together. I have extra potash and dolomite as well. If someone thinks they want to give this a try I think there is enough for up to a 36" long tank for 1" deep application. For reference I purchased the Muriate of potash and the Top Soil (bulk) from Blue Grass Nursery . (Absolutely none of the bagged "Top Soil" I found at Wal Mart, Home Depot etc. had any actuall soil in it.) The Clay (called Terrastone) and Dolomite I purchased from Ceramics Canada www.ceramicscanada.net ( I have a boat load of both still left if anyone needs some)
  8. I'm not a CAS member currently but I was planning to come to the next meeting. Which is Monday coming up YES? I have decided that my husband can figure out the whole bedtime routine with 3 kids without me for one night a month.
  9. I have thought about the fact that trimming all the stems may be labor intensive I'm prepared to give the grooming routine a try. As mentioned I can always pull them out and find replacements but thru all my browsing these are the ones that have intrigued me. I have a Catalina T5HO light fixture 72" long with 4 - 60" 80 watt bulbs staggered to cover the length so the outside 6" on both ends of the tank technically will have less light. I'm going to suspend the fixture over the tank however so my hope is it really won't effect the growth very much. The lights are on 2 separate cords with 2 bulbs assigned to each.
  10. Well my list of "wanted" plants does not include any mosses. I may be deluding myself that I need as many as I have planned but I'm taking the "Plant heavily" advise and running with it. The floor space I have to work with is 72" X 18" that being said when I sat down with graph paper and started making a planting diagram I did find places for all of these, I actually had a few that didn't make the final cut and got bumped off the list. I have no idea whether I will find all or any of these at the auction but it's a list and a plan to aim for. The items with *stars I can get from TNT and a couple of them I think are actually the ones in the high light/ Need CO2 area so I can leave those out till after I have the CO2 set up. There are a few more that I can get from April's aquarium as well. Alternanthera reineckii 'rosaefolia **Anubia barteri nana Cardamine Lyrata Ceratophyllum demersum Echinodorus tenellus **Hemianthus callitrichoides Hemianthus micranthemoides Limnophila sessiliflora Lobelia cardinalis OR **Hygrophilia corymbosa Ludwigia grandulosa Ludwigia inclinata 'Cuba‘ Ludwigia repens **Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea‘ Myriophyllum mattogrossense Nymphaea zenkeri **Prosperpinaca palustris **Rotala wallichii Vallisneria (type to be determined) I'm not completely new to a planted tank it has been a couple years but I have done the whole low light/ NO CO2 before with Vals and crypts etc. I actually want to start up another low tech tank with livebears as well, but I need to get a 90 gallon to move the cichlids into first, but one project at a time! I've been biding my time for about 20 years to give the pressurized CO2 and high light a go, when I got the 135g tank I decided it was time to jump in with both feet. Now I'm like a little kid waiting to open birthday presents, I want to do it all right now! I've curbed my enthusiasm enough to get the planning all figured out but now I don't think I can plan any more. It's time to start doing it. There is this little thing called a pay cheque tho and it doesn't get bigger just cause I wish it! All I can do is try and stretch it as far as possible. Which is why I would like to attend the auction AND why I have to wait for the CO2.
  11. Understandably I wouldn't want to keep it up for very long but I'm looking at 3-4 weeks 5 at the most. The regulator setup, drop checker, canister, and diffusion equipment are going to run me over $400. A 2 litre jug of excel is $50 so It's definitely not a long term solution but based on the dosing instructions 1 jug should last for my time frame and allow me the time to come up with the larger cash outlay. I just don't have any experience using excel so I wanted to know if it does indeed perform well.
  12. Would using Excel for the month help at all or would that not be a significant benefit?
  13. As of this weekend I will have all the equipment etc. for my 135 gallon tank except the CO2 setup. Due to finances I'm probably going to need to wait until the end of October before I can make that investment. I would really like to attend the Calgary auction on Sept 27th and try to pick up a pile of plants, I figure financially speaking it would be in my best interest and theirs too! My planning thus far has all been on the assumption that I would be using CO2 right from startup. Is it dumb to set up the tank for the auction weekend and plant my plants and then add the C02 a month later. Am I setting myself up for trouble? What should I be considering? Thanks for any help
  14. I'm looking for some suggestions for 1 more addition to a Mbuna tank. the current occupants are Labidochromis cauruleus Maylandia callainos Pseudotropheus demasoni I would like something NOT blue, think we have enough of that. The other option is just adding more of the Labs.
  15. what are some thoughts on lighting for an african cichlid tank, no plants only rock. I need to replace the bulbs I have currently which where for a planted tank and are contributing to my algae problem I think. I have tried to search for a direction but I have received very different answers. On one hand I was informed that the low spectrum 5500K or lower is colour enhancing, and elsewhere I found mention that something over the 10K was better. Anyone care to offer some advice. This tank will never have plants in it.
  16. Ok so I took the whole NO mollies idea at face value but I have been thinking since and of course now I have more questions. It has been a long while since I have needed to test my water as we have had cichlids in our tank for about 3 years and tap water works without constant monitoring. (We moved 3 years ago, the planted tank didn't like that so well and kinda melted and well I had a lot of other stuff going on and decided rock and gravel was more in keeping with my available time) ok so I'm blithering again, the questions. Last I checked (about 3 years ago) our water was pretty(very) hard and the PH was in the 7.6 -7.8 range (probably why the mollies where permanently having babies now that I connect the dots) soooo if that is the case what do I need to do to the water to make it right for the tetras and all of the non livebearers for that matter, if I want to put them in my new tank? Next Question if you are keeping livebearers in a planted tank with CO2 addition is that not going to lower the PH lower than they would like it. Am I driving people crazy yet cause I'm sure I can come up with more noob questions.
  17. Thanks Kayen I figure I should at least try to get all my ducks in a row so to speak, as I have time to do the planning. I can't just go out and buy everything for this tank all at once, I would like to but it's not financially an option. I really did want to have some mollies again, guess that will have to wait. This tank is 72" long I really think I need to put the schooling tetras into it, the mollies would be fine in a much smaller tank. I have thought about getting a bit bigger tank for our cichlids, maybe a 90g then I could put mollies into the 33g.....hmmm. Have to figure out how to slide that one by the hubby. Might have to be during one of those conversations when I KNOW he's not listening to me!
  18. So I'm in the process of putting together everything for a 130g heavily planted tank. I'm brainstorming about the fish list, however I could use some thoughts on the numbers I can keep in this size tank and if I have compatibility issues. My thoughts so far are as follows: Rummynose Tetras Neon Tetras Corys - have not determined which yet but I don't think that matters Gourami's - Honey, Dwarf, Moonlight Angels Mollies I had some barbs in mind but tossed those out in favor of the angels.
  19. I understand that the addition of CO2 will decrease PH. And if I understand my research correctly a drop checker should indicate when enough CO2 has been added. Out of curiosity what does that typically bring the PH of Calgary's water down to?
  20. Ok so based on some helpful people here on the forum and an internet search of images I believe that a fish that my husband and kids picked up on a petshop excursion about a year or so ago is a Herichthys carpinte I will post a better picture I took below. Based on my reading this fish is way to big for a 33 gallon aquarium, so if anyone has an appropriately sized home and would like it I'm not asking for anything in exchange. The fish is approximately 4" long now and I have no idea about it's sex.
  21. I have the exact same tank as well it has been set up and moved multiple times for about 12 years never had a problem!
  22. I grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan, we had a dugout stocked with rainbow trout and lost significant numbers to the blue herons, I'm not sure you could grow the fish big enough that the heron wouldn't be able to eat them.
  23. Any Garden centre or nursery should have the Muriate of potash, I have located both the clay and the dolomite at a pottery supply store. You can get a form of Dolomite from the nursery as well but that version apparently usually has lime added and that is not good. The stuff from the pottery supply is pure. I'm going to give it a try as well probably won't have things all set up till October but I'm going to do the "wash" and dry process now while the weather is good for it. Let me know how it goes I'm very intrigued by this process and its long term stability.
  24. YEAH I know 14 pages LOL but the first one or 2 are really the important part. The rest is just people commenting on the process and their results. I am in the planning stages of a 130 Gallon and I think I'm going to give it a try cause I can definitely go for economical options as the amount of substrate required for this tank is going to be a little crazy. I have tried to find a supplier in Calgary for the colorquartz and I have been unsuccessful. I know its not a requirement and I can use anything. I kinda thought I liked the look of the black but now I'm not sure.
  25. Here is the website link https://www.azgardens.com/ I'm just curious if anyone has ordered from them and if so their experience. Thanks
