It would be cool to see them raise fry , what is the best way to lower the ph and soften the water?

I have a mature pair of discus that are laying eggs evey 6 days and by the third day they eat them since they are not hatching. My understanding is that our water PH is too high so would RO solve this problem? Temp is 84, 0 nitrite 0 ammonia and 5 nitrate. They seem so determined to breed that it would be nice to see them be parents. This is their 10th batch or more of eggs. I have searched this forum and missed a talk on breeding discus unfortunately.

Thats a good idea but angelfish do take up lots of room and I have 20 already that are two months old that I have to deal with. Im waiting to be able to see the month old fry better since the smaller ones swim with their ventral fins close by their side and its hard to tell yet which ones need culling.but thankyou for the advice.

Thanks, I have used the clove oil method, seperating approximately 100 from 300 fry should be a challenge. From what I was reading there seems to be a genetic defect with the pearlscales, I have three female blue pearlscales and two have platinum partners and one has a double black partner, I have had at least a quarter of the fry have this problem, at least they were not huge batches of fry with those ones. I have a gold marble pair that always produce perfect fry. Does thisa mean the blue pearl females are not good for mating or am I going to run into this problem with any pearlscale angels?

I just didnt want to do that too soon, thought they may be still growing ventral fins at different stages Will give it one more week.

I have almost one month old blue pearlscale/ platinum fry and I would say one third have very stubby/ one to no ventral fins They were not bellysliders and are very healthy but would like to know if they still have a chance to grow them in or should I cull those ones and if so how? That would be a difficult thing to do so humanely whats the best way.

update.... The white angelfish has no more worms and is now on antibiotics and doing great, no signs of worms so far and every tank has had a treatment. Showing signs of ammonia right now so this must have disturbed the bio.... lots of water changes, you know you have too many tanks at this point. The tanks are reading .25 so hopefully its going to be a mini cyle, heres hoping anyways. But all is well other than that until I treat them one more time. hmmm fun fun. I now know about Callamus worms and Im greatful I found help here.

I will be up at night off and on looking for red worms, lol, Guess some things you have to learn the hard way. See how things look tomorrow.

the angel in the picture is starting to discreet the worms slowly, about a half inch is now showing and gave her a dose at 3 this afternoon so thats a good sign

I justs started to treat three tanks this afternoon to see how it goes and tomorrow will treat some more but the assassin snails are all coming to the top and there must be a hungred or more so they are obviously not liking it, Can I take them out and put them somewhere else or do they need to go through the treatment also. I have no idea how the shrimp are making out yet.

She still is holding on but not eating at all and yes I did see a small red worm on the bottom of the hospital tank this morning. I have read that this is very contageous and my question is do I treat all 18 tanks? will this kill all the assassin snails and shrimp also? If so what a shame

sounds like this product has been discontinued due to being used in the drug trade as a cutting agent so now Im lost. I would definately buy some from anyone that has some available,

thought I would try airdrie vets but they are now closed so will have to try again tomorrow but thats what it looks like to me. unfortunately I moved several plecos from that tank into two different large tanks with several hundred angelfish babies so I hope I dont have an outbreak here. so far just the one is showing signs of this but its not an easy treatment to find. The fish stores are leaning to general cure which I dont think will work according to what I have read. Thanks.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I will post some pictures soon when I have some free time of some of my tanks I have lots of baby angels I will have to part with soon to make some more room for the newest additions. But now I look forward to getting to know some of the people here in the same hobby.

thanks, I am putting metro in some bloodworms to see if that helps, she wont eat peas and Im trying the deworming thing now. Hate guessing at these things, but its one of the two Im sure

no other fish have these symptoms but that also was a concern, not sure what to try now the water is fresh again so I have added metro and will try to add castrol oil to her food. here is hoping its not callamanus
